  • just lovely!

  • fascinating!!!

  • Judy's rendition...just Beautiful!!!

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • Beautiful!

  • I absetlutly agree with my number 1 youtuber buck

  • AMAZING!

  • there is a time to every purpose under heaven

    hold on

    great big smiling hug!

    bless all

  • j'aime beaucoup sa facon de chanter, tres expressive

le duo de voix va bien aussi

comme quoi la musique peut etre intemporelle

  • I'm not very religious, but this song is beautiful, their voices go perfectly, and I'm in love with her voice.

  • Speaking of tv (relating to the tv comments where good shows were on), the way we have to get our tv now is simply ridiculous. And for what? It's true that there really isn't much seen on tv now and when we had to "upgrade" from antennas it just got even worse. It's barely even worth having tv anymore.:(

I hate my generation so much.

  • A time to refrain from embracing. Well said in the Bible.

  • Pete Seeger is a national treasure.

  • God Send Us This Beautiful "Person" With An "Angelic" Voice!

    We Are All So Lucky!

  • Her eyes are even blue in black and white!!!

  • @roscoegino ;)

  • Such a beautiful song and voice! :-)

  • Makes this agnostic believe in angels.

  • Pete Seeger, the father of folk music and the writer of this song playing accompaniment. Priceless!.

  • I L O V E Judy Collins. Her voice is magnificient. She was part of my life.

  • Stephen Stills wrote "Suite - Judy Blues Eyes" about Judy Collins, his relationship with her and their eventual breakup.

  • @GordonMorrice:

The lyrics are from the Old Testament: Ecclesiastes C', 1-8...

  • She's like an elfe!

She was an important person of my young life. And she still makes me feeling good while listening her.

  • I love this song, but there is NEVER "a time to kill". No one believes.

Gnosis to the destroyer is the best revenge.

  • @GordonMorrice Ehh killing an animal when its in in pain or a person on life support who has it in their will to have the plug pulled, there two times to kill lol

  • first time i heard this i came to tears because i could not believe that God could make such a beautiful voice i have listen to many artist but never heard a voice so beautiful and graceful as her i am also 16

  • there are 20 people who havent turned there way of life

  • I've always loved Judy, I made a clip for another band you may remember called Bread, ' Diary" check it out . youtube.com/watch?v=uhlYY-CxRAM

  • All of us lame guitarists need to learn how to read music, not TAB, or just listen to the music and figure out for ourselfes.

  • i can't help but seek solace in this song, thinking about the death of bin laden and the past decade of war and violence...

  • @twohundredandfour Where Have all the Flowers Gone.....when will we ever learn?

  • i can listen again and again

  • what a brilliant harmony......

  • "..........a time to heal..................".

  • These words are from the Holy book "Koheles" written by King Solomon. Shlomo Ha Melech. Its really called in Hebrew. The book has basically become one of the most misunderstood and misinterpreted. Its actually very complicated. But the meaning of these words is pretty special anyways whether we understand what he meant or not.

  • This is a song that lends itself well (very well, actually) to different interpretations. As a result musical greats like the Byrds *and* Judy Collins can make it memorable in their own way.

  • I just want to be sitting there at that table with them singing along! It's such a pleasure to here her voice unplugged with just a couple of guitars and of course Pete Seeger harmonizing. Simply wonderful!

  • While I think the Byrds version is one of those 'perfect' recordings, this is totally different, and achingly beautiful. Judy Collins was really something special, and brought us a lot of great songs.

  • Comment removed

  • Extremely beautiful women, and very calming..............

  • Seeger's pretending he can't sing here. He sings fine when he's not intimidated by a voice purely from heaven.

  • When the backing vocals came in I lost it.

  • Erm.. You have to be kidding... Byrds version better than this..? Each to their own taste, I suppose. But this is a live version... Have a listen to the Byrds live performances of this. Not so impressive... And I do love the Byrds, don't get me wrong.

  • Definitive performance. Thanks for posting!

  • @fasfadsfsd : would you learn to Mozart to play his own music? It's played like Pete Seeger wants it to be played.

  • What a great performance, and what a great song. Listen to the lyrics. More meaning today than ever.

  • It's hard to imagine today, with 500 channels and nothing to watch, that in an era when the average American had access to fewer TV channels that any of us has fingers - there were shows on TV regularly where you could hear this quality of music from all genres on a weekly basis. Lots of shows.

  • This is a really lovely song.

  • Gotta say I like the Byrds version better, but thanks to Pete for writing it.

  • @116Bears - Well, I love the Byrds version too- a GREAT and different reading of the song. For me, though, this one is the absolute gold standard for the song, the perfection of what Seeger was thinking about when he wrote it. Just IMHO, of course.

  • Judy's smile at 3:39 is beautiful and sincere

  • Magically beautiful..

  • Saw this on a recent pledge drive show....thanks for posting. And - saw her, alive and well and in beautiful voice, recently at a show in Toronto. What a treat that was!

  • @carocuth That's where I saw it too, on PBS as part of the Folk Rewind package being offered last weekend. Unfortunately, despite my earnestness, I simply can't afford $250 for 6 cd's and the dvd this vid is on. Thanks for sharing, whoever put this up.

  • im in love with her boots btw, her whole style i gotta say!

  • a time you may embrace, i so embrace her voice

  • huh, dorp D? and metal heads think they started that. funny

  • I wish we had sing alongs like this when I was in grade school

  • Just saw this clip in a Folk show on PBS & WOW! :O This is amazing! :)

  • awesome video

  • Go to the library and check out a copy of the Bible. Find the book of Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament. (Testament, not testicle) Written by Solomon, it's right after Psalms and Proverbs. Therein, you will find the words to this song.

  • We may be living in a generation that seems to go downhill now, but I hope and want to feel that maybe sometime in the future, people will know what is actually true and value fullfilled morals and we can live in a time where it's simple once more.:)

  • A time for peace, I swear it's not too late.

  • wow I just fell in love

  • Chestnut brown canary/ Ruby-throated sparrow/

Sing the song, don't be long/ Thrill me to the marrow :)

  • @lcozzarelli You sit there mesmerized by the depth of those eyes/ If you coud categorize, she got soul!

  • Thank you Judy for all the beautiful songs you have recorded. I just wish that the music today could be as beautiful.

  • What an angel, love this version of this great song.

  • Thanks for this fantastic version of a great.great song.

And a nice touch when he says"Gee;how proud that makes me."

    Fabulous:fabulous.

  • <3333333 this is beautiful

  • the voice of the 60's

  • We need this kind of music - and people- today. Meaninful songs that made you wonder about this life not that crappy mtv music. Instead of Judy Collings we got lady gaga, instead of Joan Baez we had Britney. Turn, turn, turn and go away dumb and comercial musicians.

  • @gorizound You are so right !

  • @gorizound ...I couldnt say it better.

  • I saw Judy in concert back in July of 1971 (Santa Monica, California) and it was probably the best live concert I have ever attended. While serving in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970 I saw more guys cry while listening to this song than any other that was ever played.

  • that´s what i call music

  • shes such a beautiful being

  • Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

    I just love those two.

  • Among russian folk singers there are many women who try look like Judy Collins. I have had clear idea this fact about. But Collins, my mind, sings songs as Russian and Scandinavian epic singers, her voice clear and a little faltering one.

  • JUDY COLLINS GOES HARD

  • The Native Americans call the soul "all of my relations"--speaking of nature. How far we have come from honoring that and becoming further and further from nature and each other. 1969 was a troubled time but with hope. Songs like this give us that hope for a better day relating to one another.

  • Ohh... such a wonderfull song...

  • @stratman250

    Ecclesiastes

  • One of the loveliest videos I've seen. Judy sings and plays this so beautifully. I grew up listening to her in the '60s and on forward, still play her music a lot. DarknessxUnspoken: There are lots of people of your generation who "get" this kind of music and message. Just keep being yourself; you'll find kindred spirits wherever you go if you are not afraid to use your voice and stay true.

  • Dont overlook the sweetness in Petes voice, i dont think I`ve ever seen him happier than right here and it makes me feel so happy that two people can be so gentle and kind towards one another. Nostalgic? Perhaps, but what can be expected given the state of todays affairs in the world?

  • oh my...such beauty.

She don't look too bad either.

  • She looks so pretty in this video.

  • Beautiful song ,

  • Sometimes I really wish I did live back then. I don't really like today's society for many reasons and I'm an outcast for a load of reasons, yet I'm glad I'm not most likely how teens are today. And I can see why older people don't really like us since we're next in line to control everything in society itself.T.T It affects people so much on what life's really about.

I love songs like these. You never hear any like this.<3

  • @DarknessxUnspoken

Do you own thing and don't be afraid to be true to yourself.

It's OK. You'll come into your own and change the world.

Find someone else like you. They're out there.

  • fanntistic voice

    vibrato naturnal

  • This is one of the songs I listened when I wrote my book "The Reason". I feel this song was made for Judy Collins to sing. Its purity opens me up and the truth pours out.

  • to gather stones together...ie to make shelter/home

  • This gives me goosebumps. I am transported to some other place altogether

  • Beautiful

  • In July of 1971 I saw Judy in concert in Santa Monica, California. Never realized how lucky I was at that time but now, years later and in retrospect, I know what an honor it was to have been with her for an hour or two.

  • She's not from this world.

  • @bhinderbinder shes got those beautful Spaceie eyes ...

  • @bhinderbinder Amen! Mother Mary pays a visit.

  • @bhinderbinder see Mary Hopkins version of this in welsh on my channel "tro tro tro"

  • Amazing! Lucia Micarelli brought me here haha!

  • I just saw her perform at a benefit concert in New York and, believe it or not, she is singing even better now than ever -- also still incredibly beautiful

  • What an astoundingly beautiful woman

  • Judy's crystal clear voice gives more meaning to this important song!

  • Amen to that! She's very fine. Here's to you, Ms. Collins!

  • @playgirlafterdark listen to mary hopkins welsh version of turn turn turn called tro tro tro.......that is unearthly

  • @playgirlafterdark It's that beautiful, bell - like ringing tone! It gets me all ways. I can't get enough of it!

  • as meaningful now as it was then... very nice, thanks

  • Wonderful & Beautiful Thank You !!! From JAPAN

  • @JAPANJR7GPJ glad to see these two have respect in Japan.

  • I love this song. Thank you Mr. Seeger.

I love you for giving us so many wonderful songs.

    p.s. You should be proud.

  • PETE SEEGER RULES:)

  • Could anybody help me? capo on 4th fret or where is it? i think its on 4th, but my guitar sounds strange, or has she also a differnt tuning?

  • Put your capo on 6th fret and tune your low E string down

    to D (Dropped D tuning)

  • Then play D, G and A7 chord positions taking into account the now low D string

  • @Cal44 dude thanks for posting that! I'm gonna learn it!

  • @Cal44 Dude, I can't get this right, any chance you could direct me to a tab?

  • @Aladinane86 Sorry, I'm not aware of any guitar TAB for Judy's version of this song. All I can say is that her guitar is tuned to Dropped D (DADGBE), her capo is on the 6th fret and the basic chords are D, G, A7 and Em7 (the fingerings will be slightly different because of the Low E string being tuned down to D).

  • @rokstargirli Judy's guitar isn't up to pitch, therefore unless you tune to her.. you won't be able to play along to this.

  • @rokstargirli I know you have probably worked it out by now, the is a distinct difference in tone between a 6 string and 12. Peter is playing a 12 and as far as I can see so is Judy so if you have a 6string it will sound rather different.

  • @rokstargirli the guitars are always a little out of tune on this show so you may have to adjust your tuning to their guitars

  • @rokstargirli Yes, I think she is tuned to D but I also believe she is playing the accompaniment to Pete's 12 string, so do expect that it will sound much different playing solo accompaniment.

  • You're a delight! Thank You Judy.

  • Could soften the hardest heart. Beautiful.

  • Such a beautiful, but simple arrangement. Thank you Pete for writing this.

  • god bless you tube. to be able to see this, knowing the works all my life of these giants, yet never having seen this before. simply awesome to be able to grab gems from the past....

  • Judy's singing is magical.....its all I can do to keep my heart from bursting.....

  • Beautiful. Thank you for posting tthis.

  • Anyone have the tabs to this?

  • Yes

  • Can I please have them?!?

  • My god, I would give my whole life just for an evening with her, as with the Suzanne of Leonard Cohen I would touch her perfect body with my mind.

  • THIS PERFORMANCE IS SO SETTLING JUST AS IT WAS THEN -- HER VOICE IS STILL SOOTHING --- . .GREAT LADY, GREAT SONG..THANK YOU...----gplg

  • Interesting that Judy recorded both this song and Seeger's Bells Of Rhymney in the early 60s, and I believe both were arranged by Roger McGuinn. You can hear echoes of this arrangement in the Byrds' version from '65.

  • Essa música é a cara da Judy Collins, linda voz.

  • One of the best renditions of this song.

  • ...and she wasn't beautiful only at that time and she hadn't a fantastic voice at that time - she is´beautiful in present and her voice is fantastic in present!!

  • Very special. Just so lovely...

  • A TIME FOR EVERYTHING

    Ecclesiastes 3:2-8

  • Beautiful.

  • The song is as beautiful as Judy Collins. Amazing clip.

  • I agree. Such an unforgettable face, she is not from this world. With, the power to make me cry.

  • There are some very special moments on Youtube. This is one of them. I was 13 years old when this was recorded and I listened to it on Radio Luxembourg, hiding under the bedclothes so my parents couldn't hear. Beautiful music punctuated by news bulletins describing the horrors of the Tet Offensive. "A time of war, and a time of peace".

  • agonostical..........You've just made me shiver! you were not alone.

  • she´s so beutiful!!! and she sings so nice!!!

    i love her♥♥♫

  • we all do!

  • Thank you! Beautiful.

  • Righteous harmonies from Judy and Pete in a memorable and lovely song from the Sixties. A song and a spirit for the ages, time without end. Heavenly guitars and blessed voices!

  • A time to every purpose under heaven--pretty much sums it up.

  • promagnum don't know brand sorry but

pete is tuned low to get out of her way

so he can hear an angel sing his song

  • What brand is Mr. Seger's guitar? Does he have it tuned way down?

  • I believe it an 12 string Gretsch.I know the Gretsch acoustics have triangle sound holes.

  • He typically has it in a drop d tuning

  • I grew up with her, and I'm still not tired of her!

  • OMG thats correct she just turned 70 May 1st I may be wrong about 1964 but I know it was way befor the Byrds

B/W could be alot earlier. Damn and Im

still too young for her at 65. l have the same chance for her now as I did in

the sixties NONE and still in love

  • a song taken from the book of Ecclesiastes (OT) not an anti-way song but a song or reality

  • OMG Judy (an angel) and Pete Seeger

she could have not been more than 16

TY Cal44 do we have a clue what year

    Im thinking 1964

  • If it's 1964, that would make her 25 here. (born in 1939)

  • The ultimate anti war song of its' era..Great lyrics and a great performance

  • que bonito canta

  • Esta cancion me lleva a los momentos mas sublimes de mi pobre vida.

This song carry me to the more sublime moment of my poor life.

  • why, what was their key signature? something bad?

  • Happy Birthday Judy...5/1!!!

  • That voice, those eyes...!!! ooohhh dear god... and i realy love that song.

  • One of the most amazing videos I've ever seen. A piece of history

  • Wow!

  • How beautiful!

  • Life is a gift with all its times and seasons but not all men come to know the purpose for life. If you don't discover that then the seasons come and go with monotonous meaningless and we are worm food with no where to go when we die but death. If there is nothing after death then nothing before death has any meaning.

  • Don't worry. We come back.

  • As what and to what. 1 go at this planet under these conditions is more than enough for anyone.

  • hicks, you are understood. We can have this conversation, but it's rather off-topic for this column. Just put it into my in-box. I would like very much to hear from you.

  • "thats such a beautiful song"

    God bless Pete Seeger

  • Wow.. this song were played at the funeraf of my uncle. I love it, it says everything of life.
