  • How it all started...and Molly Ringwald! The show went on 9 seasons & changed their set a few times. Are they working on a reunion special or bring all the former cast of the 1st season whom left already together? Would be awesome, except Molly Ringwald would not show up. +

  • @demikede1 I know what you mean. Did you know that the Song was sung by Gloria Loring (Ex-Wife Of Alan Thicke) and Mother of Robin Thicke. She was also on Days Of Our Lives and made History by being the only White Soap Actress to have a Hit Record on The R & B Chart (Friends & Lovers). When The Actresses who played Julie, Nancy, Cindy, & Molly were Fired, they were devastated but maybe it was a blessing. At least they didn't end up like The Diff'rent Strokes Kids.

  • Holy crap Molly Ringwald looks like a baby!! xD

  • Oh how horrid. Surprised they didn't cancel this show just from the song alone

  • So they traded in Felice Schachter, Julie Piekarski, Molly Ringwald, and Julie Anne Haddock, for Nancy Mckeon. What a risky move at the time. It did work out though. there was something about "Jo".

  • I hated the first Season...things only got interesting when Jo showed up in the second Season :)

  • This version of the song is an abortion...

  • Didn't Michael Jackson do a cover of this?

  • Tootie will always be my favorite (:

  • Jenny O' Hara always had that constipated, bug up her ass looking face.

  • This version kicks the other version's ass. Especially the ending theme section.

  • Was that Mrs. Garret singing "when books are what you're there about, but looks are what you care about"

  • WOW the girls look young - that had to be in '77 or '78? It's interesting that these coming of age shows all began around then and with 'Little Darlings' (summer 1980) was a huge movie with the same theme...

  • isn't that horrible??? ms G sucks at singing!

  • isn't that horrible??????

  • Nancy was kinda hot. what episodes was she in?

  • No offense to Jenny O'Hara- but she was supposed to be 32 years old. She makes 32 look middle aged and frumpy. I guess 32 was old back in 1979.

  • and....Molly Ringwald....hey anybody remember whatever happened to her..?

  • Its sad.Julie Haddock is a prime example of wasted talent.I'm sorry that she never made it in Hollywood. She CERTAINLY had the looks, charm,&charisma I saw her performance Wonder Woman "Girl from Islanda" she was awesome. She was a natural. She was a better actor than Molly Ringwald at least during 1979-80 era.Why wasn't she given more movie/tv roles after she was dumped from FOL? Her star(aura) shined so bright.YES THE OTHER GIRLS WERE TALENTED BUT JULIE WAS THE BEST OF THE BUNCH! WHY?WHY!?

  • @mr10tomidnight on the dvd for the show she says she strayed away to get a college degree and didnt want to act anymore. she sounds very intelligent and weird or no letme take that back eccentric is the word butshe still looks prettyfor her age. i actually liked sue ann from this first season.

  • @mr10tomidnight Julie was a bit mistyped as the young tomboy of the group. She looked too sweet ,she hadn'd any killer glance.Same for another Julie (Piekarski)that as a beauty in the group was just the smarter version of Lisa Whelchel.I just think producer simply ripped all stay-in-the-middle- characters off to mantain only the best working "naive" ones for a sit-com.That has nothing to do with acting skills, these girls had no a chance to wear the proper suit to succeed.

  • @yepheth

In the end, all the show really needed was one adult character rather than three, and only four types of girls were needed to prevent redundancy: the beautiful, rich and white socialite (also very WASPy), the tough inner city girl (who had to be white in order to preclude accusations of stereotyping, so they made her Polish and Italian), the cute and naive black girl (younger than the others), and the chubby and funny Jewish girl.

  • @mr10tomidnight Not truly. The show worked because the strongest actresses remained on the show- Lisa, Mindy, Kim and Charlotte were perfect for their roles . The res of the girls were good, but not strong character actresses. Especially the girl that played Nancy, was actually kind of bad. They needed a good strong character actress- thats where Nancy McKeon came in. Thats why the show lasted the way it did. Molly was a decent actress.

  • @ForeverAnalog

This is why they made so many cuts after the first year. There was no reason having three adults starring in the show, so O'Hara disappeared after just two or three episodes, and Lawlor was let go after the first season. The two Julies (Haddock and Piekarski) were almost redundant of each other, Schachter was just a bad actress with no story line around her character, and Ringwald had not yet developed her talents. Of course, she would atone for this in the Brat Pack movies.

  • Nancy..I liked Nancy. They should've kept her. She made appearances though.

  • Can't believe this was filmed 30 years ago.

  • I don't think they should have gotten rid of all the girls they made the show more interesting.

  • I agree with you Snoopy!

  • Not sure about THAT.

  • Is it just me or does Felice Thacher have that sexy tall thin supermodel/dancer type body that us guys wish we could go out with? And yes, I happen to like thin girls, mind you!

  • I read that wrong. You're not a girl.

  • @Ecksntrick8 Im so glad that you are one of the few people who post on youtube and know the difference between your and you're :)

  • I hate people who get those confused.

  • NOT a girl.

  • This was way better than the various final seasons intros. Thank you for posting.

  • who would've imagined that Mrs Garrett could do that falcetto so perfectly.!!

  • Molly RIngwald's hair!!! lmao

  • My favorite was Julie Ann Haddock, who played Cindy Webster. I was about seven or eight when it came out. I was okay with watching pretty girls.

  • what happened to all those other girls from the first season anyway?

  • Molly RIngwald and Kim Fields were the only two that had life after that show.

  • well natilie does films and voice overs and joe (jo) does tat show strong medicine and a few small films

  • Jo(Nancy McKeon) was on "The Division" not "Strong Medicine."

  • oh my bad there both on lifetime

  • was that Mrs. Garret singing "when looks are what you care about..."?

  • it is

  • Well it wasn't Judy Garland

  • @Sulla2300 yes she does

  • @Sulla2300 yep

  • @Sulla2300 yup

  • @Sulla2300 Funny you ask that because even as a young kid watching this show I wondered the same thing hahaha..... now here I am at age 33 and am still baffled hahaha.

Seriously, I think that is ol' misses Garrett singing that line, and the one "You best investigate" line.

  • @Sulla2300 Yep.

  • For some reason, I liked this version better than what it became with Jo.

  • Actually the Jo years were pretty good! The only thing I didn't like was the complete lack of Nancy Olsen and how the producers treat her!

In my opinion this is how I see the series:

season 1 = too many girls to count!=bad

season 2 and beyond=good to some extent(except during the fat period during the show!)

But if the producers kept Felice Thacher (Nancy Olsen) as a 5th teen character on the show with the 4 we all know from season 2 and beyond, then the show would have been awesome!

  • If Felice "Schachter was so good, why is it that you cant even remember to spell her last name right? She was useless which is why she had to go.

  • So she's like you, except on a t.v. show.

  • @db338 OMG! Me too. This was one of my favorite seasons. Remember the reunion, sans Molly Ringwald? NBC decided to hire new producers and recast due to bad ratings.

  • There were alot of pretty girls on the show.

  • I went through puberty watching the first season, and was so sad when they fired most of the pretty girls for the second season! I really missed Nancy, the hot brunette.
