Always think about if you would want to be in the shoes of the person in the situation you are talking about... Would you want to be that senior getting audit if they are worth living? Of course not. It's a disgrace that the U.S. would ever put such a plan into action. This bill is going to be shot down in the Supreme Court, it is against the constitution.
Coming from the same channel that discredits population growth... This channel is serious garbage, and uses friendly animations to captivate it's less intelligent viewers.
I think I remember this chain of argument. Some idiot in America was ranting and raving about it all over, and in reality, it's all a work of fiction. "You'll get visited by a professional who will check on your condition...And the guy who worked as an advisor (his opinions weren't necessarily listened to, and there could have been dozens working beside him in the same capacity) had some beliefs on the subject" Therefore, evil
My father lives in the UK and gets amazing healthcare (state ran). He is screened regularly for any problems and was treated immediately and successfully for a very serious condition a few years back and it saved his life. If you ahve an immediate life threatening problem, you are moved to the front of the queue and if not, you can have an appointment free of charge at a hospital in around a month. The doctors are excellent and hospitals in his area are excellent. State ran health care works.
@takapa76 Shh...Don't let the rest of America know that. Apparently if something works in around 40 countries (give or take) it is doomed to fail in the US...Americans don't have a very high opinion of themselves, do they?
@gat19g Like the facts provided by Fox News? Social welfare policies have existed within Europe and the Eastern Pacific for decades, and there is no link between these policies and bankrupcy.
I live in Canada, and our healthcare system is far better here. I don't say that out of patriotism, but out of the fact that when people get sick/injured their first thoughts here are "I need to get to a doctor", not "how am I going to pay for this". And that's how it should be.
Our healthcare system, while not perfect, does work, and it works for all ages. I hope someday the US adopts a similar system.
As I said, our healthcare system is not perfect, but I'll give an example. My family doctor recently did an examine on my infant son. The doctor used to work on the US and as he explained it, he takes infant care extra seriously now because he had some infant patients die in the US because the parents didn't bring them in when they should have because of what it would cost.
People should never have to second guess going to a doctor because of what they'll be charged. Never.
1. The elderly are already pushed to the back of the line in the USA. They are typically on fixed incomes, and in the USA's 'For Profit' insurance system, they at a much higher risk of being left out in the cold because they can't pay for it.
2. Quality Adjusted Life Years or QUALY's is a system used by economists and policy makers all over the world. Look it up on Wikipedia.
3. 'Difficult Decision' inevitably produce ugly results on way or the other.
@lockesloo Favoring the young sounds reasonable under certain circumstances, but this is a matter of honesty. Trying to secure your own agenda by comforting exactly those you're gonna shaft is not good practice.
Also, a society that cannot eventually manage to look after the elders that put them there in the first place is not much of a society. That would be more like a human farm.
Being born a Canadian Native American FTW, living as a healthy Canadian Native American FTW for non-Native American citizens because im not leeching off your tax money, living as a healthy Canadian Native American that also pays taxes FTW for the leechers
Any country which is not able to provide a basic minimum level of healthcare for it's population has no right to call it's self "developed". My country (Ireland) may have way too many problem to name but at least the poor can get some healthcare without being afraid of being bankrupted
It's insurance companies who push the sickest to the back of the queue more than public health systems, as the former are driven to provide profit for their shareholders, which is easiest to do by cherry-picking the least complicated patients.
people like 2 criticize da government but would do u think insurance companies do???????????????????? 2 tell u da truth health care is like dis america if u have money doctors and insurance will try everything in the world to save u and if you don't have money or not enough of if they won't do anything. so its really broken down into dis capitalism over life
Let me tell you something. In the US senior, you won't get the treatment you need unless you're insured. I think being bumped to the back of the line and eventually getting treatment is better than no treatment at all.
The "[end of life options]" visits you talk about are going over the options with your doctor (not a government crony), for example, if you'd want to be kept alive on a ventilator. It's mostly so that your family knows what you would want if you are medically incapacitated. Some doctors already do this, the bill just adds an incentive to do it under medicare coverage. There's really nothing sinister about them, and your family still makes the decisions in most cases.
oh no. in our country the seniors come first. and we have public health care. it does not mather who you are. sever conditions, before the non severes. and that usualy means, elderly first. in you country, seniors are allready denied healthcare bechose ensurance companys wont ensure them. such is the first pay, first seved way. stop liking the balls of the republicans and do some math.
I think that health care in America is very important. I live in Germany and have health-care. Because I have some problems with my heart, eyes and other bodyparts, I am realy profiting from health-care.
@DJLuckyB1990, im american, but i totally agree. the problem is that a lot of americans (cough cough republicans) have this crazy view that rasing taxes would be the end of life as we know it, which is completely ridiculous. theyre a necessity that rich people dont wanna deal with because they can afford it on there own. they are perfectly content to watch everyone else who cant sicken and die.*sigh*.hey if sarah palin or rick perry becomes president ill b comin up! better hockey anyway....
Great video keep spreading the truth then people will see the truth of this administration and what they are truly trying to do take away your fredom to make us all slaves of the Govt. sound crazy? check out how much govt. has grown and how many rights you are losing daily. Soon the Govt will tell you everything you can do or cant do.
@maynpayn Nothing is free there robbing me you and your kids there kids etc etc etc. Were do you think this FREE money comes from? Its our Tax dollars they are robbing me and you all Americans then they are giving it away to illegal aliens and alot of people who purposfuly try to stay out of work to get all kinds of our hard earned tax dollars. Yes Healthcare needs to be fixed, but not taken over by Govt. Who Fails at every business they create but keeps it going by pouring our money into it.
@coolvideo28 What happened to caring about other people? I'm guessing you're to good to care about other people. Don't you care about all the Americans that can't afford healthcare that desperately needs it. No, you worry about the few who are going to abuse it. Does this mean we should outlaw guns, cars and alcohol too, because of the few who abuse it.
I can agree that now is not best time for healthcare cause of the f-ed up economy, but taxes needs to be raised anyways.
@maynpayn I care about everyone & anyone can go into an emergency room and get medical service No one can be turned away. So poor or rich Everyone has access to healthcare. Obviously outlawing all those things you mentioned is nonsens. I said we need to fix healcare No Govt. Socialist takover are lifes will be dependent on the Govt. Not a good idea.Never should we raise taxes we need to lower them. President Regan was here and he fixed the problem, obama could copy him but wants to ruin the USA
When did Obama say "he" could give everyone "free" healthcare? The legislation that Congress passed does nothing of the sort. In fact what it does do is, force people to buy healthcare insurance from someone. What they passed merely extended what we currently have. Everyone will be in some type of "pool" of insurers... period. The insurance companies will win as everyone will have to pay something to them. That's the whole "mandate" fight.
@mewpoet it is unconstitutional to FORCE someone to have to get healthcare insurance. Some people would rather not have it. Some people lead perfectly healthy lives without needing any medical attention until their later years.
@surgicalbassist Right now this is up for debate in our courts, the Appellate Courts to be exact. Think about this, our laws force doctors to treat patients regardless, so yeah, you can force someone to do something that is NOT explicitly stated in the Constitution. If I force you to render a service then at some point someone has to force someone to pay for that service, right? As is stands that cost is merely shifted to those who pay, legally forcing me to pay for a service I did not solicit.
@mewpoet poor example. You missed the point. If I don't want to go to the doctor for ANYTHING. I shouldn't have to pay for insurance. PERIOD!!! I do have insurance, therefore I don't mind paying for it. If I ever didn't have the money for insurance. I would not go to the doctor unless medically necessary. And then, I would pay for my bills out of my own pocket. Like anyone should.
@surgicalbassist One remedy might be to force those who utilize the service, at the point of consumption, to have to get an insurance policy (mandate them) or pay in cash (fees). If you show up at the emergency room and can't pay, something has to be done to rectify the fact that you cannot pay for the service you are in need of. I don't want my premiums to continue to rise because you won't pay for service rendered to you (I'm not actually referring to you when I say you).
@mewpoet I agree. People SHOULD have to pay for their bills. If you want a service rendered unto you...you need to pay for it. If you want to buy insurance, you have a bill. You buy that insurance because you feel that your medical costs could at some point be substantial, and you want to have a means to pay for your bills(through insurance). An insured person thinks that paying a small amount over time will either be cheaper in the long run, or just likes to pay the the "cushion"
This video is misleading & missed a few important points, some people cannot afford health insurance. + if you want you can still buy insurance & be treat it like before
that life end of life document apply only to those how do not have one
Honestly this is really pathetic they took facts out of there context & mixed them white lies.
Just so everyone knows, The Population Institute was founded by Fr. Paul Marx, a Catholic Pro-Life activist. My 2 cents about that fact is that I believe a religious person of any background that seeks to control the lives of others, and has left behind a legacy that features an institution devoted to misleading the international community about the topic of overpopulation, should not be trusted. I'll let people make their own decisions.
@chillaxative What does Fr. Marx have to do with the content of this video? Guilt by association tactics are not helping your claim to "let people make their own decisions."
@Colinpri1 It's still good to be aware of it, I'm glad he notified me because it allows us to perceive the possibility of disinformation being spread on this channel around Youtube.
@Colinpri1 "I'll let people make their own decisions" - So your statement does not apply. Besides it's important to know where the information is coming from. Is it coming from scientists and hard data? Or is it coming by inference from someone's pet philosophy.
@Colinpri1 So you do admit that it is a bad association to have people think of "a Catholic Pro-Life activist" when viewing these videos? I believe having all cards on the table is the best way to let people make their decisions.
(And obviously naming simple facts about the background of the organization responsible for the videos is not a attempt at throwing dirt at the videos.)
Where do you get that from? He is saying the truth of a statement doesn't depend on the beliefs of the person making it. If Peter Singer says cats are mammals, is he wrong because he also thinks killing infants is ethically okay?
@Fleefles It is true that people can be right in some questions even though they are wrong in others.
However it is always important to look at their chain of deduction:
Peter Singer does not think it's ok to kill babies because cats are mamals I take it?
PRI thinks people should replenish the Earth because some god told them to. If their god need people contraception and planned parenthood must be bad. Ergo Obama must be bad for allowing it.
@chillaxative Susan B. Anthony was pro-life. I guess no one should have listened to anything she said about feminism since she just wants to control everyone. And what about that pastor, Martin Luther King Jr.? Obviously he should not have been trusted.
Medicare is free in Israel for all citizens(aswell as social benefits, including pension even if you didn't worked a day in your life), well almost free a visit to a specialist will cost you about 5$... and as far as i know its quite the same in europe, you have some medical bills but they are capped to a certain sum per year and after that you the government pays the fees... heck even cuba has free medical.. in some aspects the US is way behind some of the 3rd world countries out there...
@newguy33X you do realize that American "foreign" military aid is not hard currency right? it is credit to buy military equipment that is made in the US.
The 2nd type of AID that Israel receives is loan guarantees, which as it sound a US backing of loans if Israel choose to take one from international banks, Israel has never used a single loan guarantee from the US.
PS medicare was free in Israel since 1948(actually, even earlier, the current HMO's in Israel date back to the British mandate)
@newguy33X No, just has a good economy, and much stricter banking and commercial regulation than the US...
Google/Youtube Israel+Economy... Israel is more than self sufficient, the 2bln in US military aid helps the US economy more than Israel, at the rate we spending its nothing more than bulk discount for fighter jets.. and 2bln is about 10% of the total defense budget(IDF operational spending only), not including defense R&D, Homeland security or ISA agencies..
@DOGMA1138 Nowadays is it fair to say that without the U.S. promising support (via the HUGE military force the U.S. has built up), Israel would have to spend much more money on military/security...perhaps to the point of not being able to maintain any significant other social programs?
@newguy33X What US military support? the military aid is a fairly new deal, only since the early 2000's has it reach any meaningful sums, during the early days of Israel when medicare was still "free", the US did not support Israel at all, infarct until the six day war the US has barely acknowledge Israel... in the early days France and Britain were the big Israeli allies, due the the trouble Nasser started by nationalizing the Suez canal.. PS we prefer selling arms to china than those 2bln $..
one means of judging a society is by how they take care of their elderly and sick. there are 2 main ways of doing this, by either spending billions in funds and resources to help these people, or accept that some people just cannot be saved. i for one believe that we should not spend billions to keep someone alive for maybe a few months while we rob them of their dignity.
I turned this on expecting bullshit; and found extreme bullshit.
Other countries mistreat their seniors? Here in Canada, we definitely do not, actually. Health care is very equal.
Obama can't afford it? Ever heard of a 0 sum system. Revenue comes in, resources go out, no profit. That's the plan most government systems try to operate by, actually. You didn't elaborate on this at all, you simply said axiomical statements.
Lastly, that line for end of life care is so overused, and misinterpreted
@filosofiamanga Not at all, im just stating facts whether you approve of them or not. I´ve seen Sicko and it wasnt groundbreaking, sorry. Cuba has not better healthcare than the US, the footage from the movie had acutally been prooved to be fake afterwards. Did you know that Fidel Castro flew in an specialist doctor from Spain when he got sick? The reason was because the standard of healthcare is awful in Cuba. Everyone is equal, but some people are more equal than others. Nice Marxist approach.
THIS ORGANIZATION THAT MADE THIS VIDEO IS COMPLETELY FUNDED BY THE LYNDE AND HARRY BRADLEY FOUNDATION - WHICH IS AN EXTREME RIGHT WING ORGANIZATION THAT DONATES MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO OTHER EXTREME RIGHT WING ORGANIZATIONS. Pass the word on this scum miss-information.
You are a moron. How would you know anything about anything. Just shut your mouth before you get yourself into trouble, because nobody cares what you think. Hate to break you the news, but the truth hurts.
So an obscure "end of life counseling" provision means universal healthcare is flawed, without merit and to top it off hasn't worked and is failing those nations who already implemented it? If you're going to attack healthcare then do it by the numbers, don't bring up ridiculous distractions to scare people into believeing what you want them to. Your inital premise is all wrong to begin with because it is seniors who are the primary users of healthcare, thus they're not at the back of the line.
It's not an audit to have a consultant go and provide information on what your options are... I have a hard time thinking you guys don't already have someone else in place telling seniors about their end of life options. Whether they want extraordinary measures taken... etc. That's essentially what this is all about and ppl need to be informed about that. More over, Obama's thing won't be cheaper because he's not socializing it, if he did he'd cut away the 4.5% of GDP eaten up by inefficiency.
I'm from Argentina we don't have the best economy in the world, but everyone can go to a public hospital and get food, condoms, expensive treatments or wathever they need. Even homeless people are treated for free in public hospitals. And the taxes are not high! The problem with te U.S. is that the health is a product like everything else there, and the owners of the health will try tu put the higher price to their products.
@Zanguche I'm from Missouri and I have not wealthy enough for healthcare for several years, but even the homeless and poor here receive treatment and medicine WITHOUT the government being involved - it is called Christian charity. The problem with Argentina and other countries with socialized healthcare is that the government pays for it through deficit financing, which will eventually destroy your currency and then healthcare costs will really go down, because there won't be any healthcare.
"even the homeless and poor here receive treatment and medicine WITHOUT the government being involved - it is called Christian charity"
Do you expect doctors in NY, CA, MA, OH etc. to treat everybody who can't pay out of Christian charity? Heck, even the doctors in St. Louis? There's nothing capitalist about that.
Hyperinflation may one day wipe out the value of savings and fixed incomes, which a lot of seniors need to live on, let alone pay for health insurance.
@Zanguche No, the problem w/ health care in the US are 1) It's become a bureaucracy, i.e TOO much regulation requiring staff not needed to deliver health care 2) medical school cost 100K, prices have been distorted due to government intervention 3) pharmaceutical industry becomes TOO invested in a drug/therapy that better ones get muscled out 4) Lack of competition, which would lower prices &5) INFLATION!
Whats the big deal i havent noticed change since i was born even when the twin towers fell i didnt notice were always focusing on the past and the present the truth of the matter is we dont notice any thing unless it hapens within 1 second and effects the world 1/10 of people relly on the government for anwsers the truth is citizens out number the government 100000000 to 1
As optimistic as I was about president Obama, it's become abundantly clear to me that he is a man who writes checks with his mouth that his ass can't cash. Unfortunately it seems like the American tax payer will end up footing the bill.
The problem with old people is that with medicine we've doubled their life expentancy, but half of them are getting Alzheimers anyway.* So we either carry out effective mental healthcare as well as physical medicine, or we dont give them healthcare (or at least not as much.)
*Sourced from The Brain That Changes Itself Revised Edition by Norman Doidge MD
I lived in England for 6 years and witnessed my British neighbors buying private insurance and paying cash for services at private hospitals because they were DENIED by the NHS. Socialized medicine is like free cookies. Put them out and people who would usually have 0 or 1 take 3 or 4 - in no time the plate is empty and someone has to RATION the cookies. We should call it RATIONED Government Healthcare. Do you want some "qualified" government worker deciding if YOU get to be seen? Really?
I've loved every one of your videos, but this one is pathetic. The reason that 'death panel' provision was in the bill is to -- and this is obvious to anyone with their left brain intact -- protect the sick and dying from having the plug pulled against their will, by family members. A few examples, (1) old man marries a gold digger then has a heart attack, (2) estranged kid doesn't feel like spending the medical bills on his elderly mother anymore, etc. It's so obvious how exagerated this is.
This LIE has been debunked a million times over and you give your own lie up just by the wording "visited by a gov't official to determine end of life OPTIONS". Medicare is for old people and has been FOR DECADES. The new bill means nothing to Medicare, other than shaving off privatized corporations leaching off of it.
@psynema But Medicare is broken and has been...FOR DECADES. So the answer is more government run programs? When will people stop relying on clumsy bureaucracies and start taking care of themselves?
My VA patients receive free health care from our government. It's a joke. They don't always get to see their doctor. When they do, it's after months. Obamacare is the same.
Due to... who? Republicans, Blue-Dog Democrats, and Obama's fucking lack of balls. Tax the rich to feed the poor, it's as simple as that. And, all you conservatives, go fucking die. Peace and love to the rest of you.
ok dummies you take care of the sick either way- cant you see that? why not institute a system to deal with it prior to miss latino usa popping out her seven kids?! this is obvious republican propaganda.
If everyone has health care, they will go to the doctor's office for preventative measures. So these doctors will catch health problems in their early stages, which will reduce the need for expensive surgeries. Some surgeries cost $100,000.
That's the theory behind the idea that giving everyone health care won't affect the budget. People are going to the doctor for preventative measures, not expensive surgery. Will that happen, who knows?
We can tell health-care reform was shady from the start. Countries that have free health-care pay high taxes to pay for it. How is it possible for us to have free health-care, not to have a raise in taxes. Lets see kill of old people and prevent babies from being born via abortion & euthanasia. Inject 1/3 of the population with lethal "vaccines". Then raise the suicide rate. Then place insurance providers encharge of running free health-care.
well, it just means budget cuts in some other 'less important' areas. It's all a matter of juggling money so you have enough 'benefits' to keep people happy and enough to keep.
@JustRyan96 you are ignorant, overpopulation is a lie made to make mass murders seem just fine. If there were more people there would be more farmers, and so more food.
Children first, ALWAYS! At the table, in the hospital, at the disaster site. Always! Live your life to the fullest, because if it ever comes between you and me or a little kid, we can forget about it and that's the way its supposed to be. I'll hold you down so the child gets the food and water first or gets rescued first or gets the first hospital bed. It's called honor, look it up.
I am British and I am cared for very well. The cost of my glasses, tablets (of which I need many) and a psychologist are all covered for me by the government. Admittidly we are paying indirectly via taxes, but its a tiny fraction of what I may otherwise have to pay.
Also, you seem to think that in Britain Seniors are pushed to the back of the queue, they are not. If anything they are pushed FORWARD in the queue, not the back, as those people with the greatest deemed need are helped first.
1. What war did we lose, and why is it relivent to the conversation?
2. The health care in Britain is far superior to that in the US. Our life expectancy is higher, as is our ratings from the WHO (World Health Organisation)
@ThomasWadeFraser Try to let this sink in your tea-brain when I answer.
1. You LOST the revolutionary war to AMERICANS, first of all. I guess you should study up on your history hmm?
2. Last I checked, none of you even have dental, so maybe you shouldn't be looking down your nose at America and I. Our life expectancy is at least 70 years, I bet yours is 70.1 years.
If you don't like our freedoms then find a different way to rage about it!
1. How is losing a war that was quite litterally hundreds of years ago relevant? Thats like me saying "I think we should give more to the poor" and you just saying "Your great great great grandad lost in a fight to mine, so therefore I say we shouldn't."
2. Yes we do have dental. Atleast I do; we have it up to the age of 27 free. And even if we didn't, would that mean healthcare is a bad idea? Ofcourse not.
@ThomasWadeFraser Your life expectancy is higher simply because American fast food culture has made us obese... it is not your health care. In spite of that the difference is one year, which basically means if a US citizen stays at an optimum weight they will outlive you.
Britain is the fattest nation in Europe. Particularly Scotland. If you compare your nation to somewhere like France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden etc... then the life expectancy is MASSIVELY different.
Also, why are you arguing AGAINST health care? Is it because you are rich enough to afford the private stuff? Think about your own motives, and then consider society as a whole.
@ThomasWadeFraser - I am not arguing against health care, I am arguing against government run health care. It is always interesting to me that everyone is so parochial that they view their system as the best. Americans in general do not have as positive a view toward government interference as Europeans (to say the least).
Our NHS is in debt, yes, but not all systems are -france for example. I know our healthcare system best.
Today I went to see my psychologist. In America that would have been extremely expencive; its so expencive they make jokes about it on sitcoms. But it did not cost me a penny.
I have been to America, and I have met people who are massively in debt becaus of private insurance companies. We dont have that problem here.
@ThomasWadeFraser See my subsequent post... first of all the fact that it works (?) in a small country like the UK, does not mean it would work in a nation of over 300 million with an enormous land area and rural areas that create issues you cannot even imagine. Europe is nothing like the USA and as time goes on the political and logistical realities become more and more of a divide. Secondly, stay away from the psychobabble, stats show they are a waste of time.
Statistics do not show they are a waste of time. They do if you choose to manipulate the statistics in such a way though. What you are forgetting is that, while our life expectancies are not very different, our healthcare is infinitely better.
It does not cause us massive debt.
It provides psychological help to people like me (that doesnt appear in your "life expectancy" idea).
@ThomasWadeFraser - It is not massively different from any but the highest rated Asian nations. There is only a bit over 2 years difference between USA and France, etc. per Wikipedia. Also, the USA is a massively different and larger country than yours and so honestly, why are you debating us? In terms of land and population size there can be no comparison between our HC system and yours.
@SueEllenGraceland Not yet. But if repukes and Jesus nuts get their way we will be. Soon we'll have small government that doesn't get in the way of big oil and be very religious just like Yemen, Ethiopia, and Somalia. You may die of chickenpox, parasites, or starvation, but at least you didn't have to pay taxes or hear somebody say Happy Holidays!
@Bill1275w Yeah... those Jesus nuts who risk their life to bring fresh water and food in the REAL Third World. When was the last time you Europeans did anything real for anyone except talk?
I think it's shocking that America's Military budget far outweighs it's healthcare budget.
I think that Obama was trying to get the free healthcare for people and the people were like "No,we would prefer our hard earned tax dollar went toward having the best equipped army"
People's choice,end of story.call me naive,it's just an impression.
@Faugh666 Choosing who receives medical care and who doesn't is based on logical decisions, if your putting trillions of dollars into a program you sure as hell are going to invest it wisely, those that deserve to live are the most fit physically, and have been extremely productive or somehow contributed to society in a great way. Old people are seen as unfit for survival because they are unable to conduct intensive labor and have essentially outlived their purpose. Cold Hard Logic. Eugenics
I live in the UK. I got glasses for FREE. I got my broken wrist fixed up for FREE. I had my broken finger fixed up for FREE. I was able to have my teeth checked up and looked after by the dentist for FREE. And I definitely wasn't screwed over by some insurance company. I am healthy and happy.
@cbens: Talk to me when you have diabetes & your kidneys fail. They have a policy of making such people wait until they die. From a political perspective, the great thing about dead people, they don't vote anymore. They aren't likely to hold you accountable for killing them. The vast majority, who are in relative health, enjoy the luxury of not being responsible & planning for their health care. (I'm talking about you.) Those who have serious health problems die off soon enough.
@cbens In case you haven't noticed: it wasn't free. Someone paid for it. It was either you, your insurance company, your mother/father, or it was the whole population by their taxes.
@gamebuster800 Yes, it was the whole population, via taxes. Proper universal healthcare kicks ass, I care not one fuck if someday I end up paying high taxes for it, it is a brilliant service and one that all first world countries should have.
There is nothing wrong with paying taxes that contribute to a public health service. I'd rather that people like cbens were able to use tax money to get the health care they require, because it means they're more likely to either find jobs if they don't already have one or can get back into the work force quicker... which ultimately means they're a productive member of society helping to keep the wheels of the economy turning.
@gamebuster800 This is true. Taxpayers know they are paying for students and elderly people to get free stuff and they know they are paying for the NHS, but they also know that the NHS has no money making incentive; it is not a fraudulant business; it's just there to help people get better. This works much better than corrupt insurance companies scamming people of their money when they discover their broken spine was VOID of cover because of whatever small print.
@gamebuster800 Well then it should be taxes. If everyone shares the payment equally, then it leads to a less corrupt healthcare service. For example, if you needed major surgery, in a place like America, you would have to pay the fee which could be $1000's, but if we pay only a small amount regularly, it benefits everyone in the longrun.
@cbens There is no such thing as free health insurance. You pay for it through taxes and everybody else pays for your health costs through their taxes.

I think I remember this chain of argument. Some idiot in America was ranting and raving about it all over, and in reality, it's all a work of fiction. "You'll get visited by a professional who will check on your condition...And the guy who worked as an advisor (his opinions weren't necessarily listened to, and there could have been dozens working beside him in the same capacity) had some beliefs on the subject" Therefore, evil
....What?

My father lives in the UK and gets amazing healthcare (state ran). He is screened regularly for any problems and was treated immediately and successfully for a very serious condition a few years back and it saved his life. If you ahve an immediate life threatening problem, you are moved to the front of the queue and if not, you can have an appointment free of charge at a hospital in around a month. The doctors are excellent and hospitals in his area are excellent. State ran health care works.

Never.

The problem with this kind of thinking is:
3. 'Difficult Decision' inevitably produce ugly results on way or the other.

lockesloo 2 months ago
@lockesloo Favoring the young sounds reasonable under certain circumstances, but this is a matter of honesty. Trying to secure your own agenda by comforting exactly those you're gonna shaft is not good practice.
Also, a society that cannot eventually manage to look after the elders that put them there in the first place is not much of a society. That would be more like a human farm.

That's the whole "mandate" fight.
mewpoet 8 months ago
@mewpoet it is unconstitutional to FORCE someone to have to get healthcare insurance. Some people would rather not have it. Some people lead perfectly healthy lives without needing any medical attention until their later years.
surgicalbassist 7 months ago
@surgicalbassist Right now this is up for debate in our courts, the Appellate Courts to be exact. Think about this, our laws force doctors to treat patients regardless, so yeah, you can force someone to do something that is NOT explicitly stated in the Constitution. If I force you to render a service then at some point someone has to force someone to pay for that service, right? As is stands that cost is merely shifted to those who pay, legally forcing me to pay for a service I did not solicit.
mewpoet 7 months ago
@mewpoet poor example. You missed the point. If I don't want to go to the doctor for ANYTHING. I shouldn't have to pay for insurance. PERIOD!!! I do have insurance, therefore I don't mind paying for it. If I ever didn't have the money for insurance. I would not go to the doctor unless medically necessary. And then, I would pay for my bills out of my own pocket. Like anyone should.
surgicalbassist 7 months ago
@surgicalbassist One remedy might be to force those who utilize the service, at the point of consumption, to have to get an insurance policy (mandate them) or pay in cash (fees). If you show up at the emergency room and can't pay, something has to be done to rectify the fact that you cannot pay for the service you are in need of. I don't want my premiums to continue to rise because you won't pay for service rendered to you (I'm not actually referring to you when I say you).
mewpoet 7 months ago
@mewpoet I agree. People SHOULD have to pay for their bills. If you want a service rendered unto you...you need to pay for it. If you want to buy insurance, you have a bill. You buy that insurance because you feel that your medical costs could at some point be substantial, and you want to have a means to pay for your bills(through insurance). An insured person thinks that paying a small amount over time will either be cheaper in the long run, or just likes to pay the the "cushion"
surgicalbassist 7 months ago
This video is misleading & missed a few important points, some people cannot afford health insurance. + if you want you can still buy insurance & be treat it like before

CmdrTobs 4 months ago
@Colinpri1 So you do admit that it is a bad association to have people think of "a Catholic Pro-Life activist" when viewing these videos? I believe having all cards on the table is the best way to let people make their decisions.
(And obviously naming simple facts about the background of the organization responsible for the videos is not a attempt at throwing dirt at the videos.)
Leajk 1 month ago
Where do you get that from? He is saying the truth of a statement doesn't depend on the beliefs of the person making it. If Peter Singer says cats are mammals, is he wrong because he also thinks killing infants is ethically okay?
Fleefles 1 month ago
@Fleefles It is true that people can be right in some questions even though they are wrong in others.
However it is always important to look at their chain of deduction:
Peter Singer does not think it's ok to kill babies because cats are mamals I take it?
PRI thinks people should replenish the Earth because some god told them to. If their god need people contraception and planned parenthood must be bad. Ergo Obama must be bad for allowing it.
Sounds like a chain of reasoning to me.

DOGMA1138 8 months ago
@DOGMA1138 Was Israel simply founded by people who had a lot of money?
newguy33X 8 months ago
@newguy33X No, just has a good economy, and much stricter banking and commercial regulation than the US...
Google/Youtube Israel+Economy... Israel is more than self sufficient, the 2bln in US military aid helps the US economy more than Israel, at the rate we spending its nothing more than bulk discount for fighter jets.. and 2bln is about 10% of the total defense budget(IDF operational spending only), not including defense R&D, Homeland security or ISA agencies..
DOGMA1138 8 months ago
@DOGMA1138 Nowadays is it fair to say that without the U.S. promising support (via the HUGE military force the U.S. has built up), Israel would have to spend much more money on military/security...perhaps to the point of not being able to maintain any significant other social programs?
newguy33X 8 months ago
@newguy33X What US military support? the military aid is a fairly new deal, only since the early 2000's has it reach any meaningful sums, during the early days of Israel when medicare was still "free", the US did not support Israel at all, infarct until the six day war the US has barely acknowledge Israel... in the early days France and Britain were the big Israeli allies, due the the trouble Nasser started by nationalizing the Suez canal.. PS we prefer selling arms to china than those 2bln $..

ThomasWadeFraser 1 year ago
@ThomasWadeFraser Well if it's such a big deal to you then why did you lose the war and how come your health is so bad compared to America?
SueEllenGraceland 1 year ago
@SueEllenGraceland
1. What war did we lose, and why is it relivent to the conversation?
2. The health care in Britain is far superior to that in the US. Our life expectancy is higher, as is our ratings from the WHO (World Health Organisation)
ThomasWadeFraser 1 year ago
@ThomasWadeFraser Try to let this sink in your tea-brain when I answer.
1. You LOST the revolutionary war to AMERICANS, first of all. I guess you should study up on your history hmm?
2. Last I checked, none of you even have dental, so maybe you shouldn't be looking down your nose at America and I. Our life expectancy is at least 70 years, I bet yours is 70.1 years.
If you don't like our freedoms then find a different way to rage about it!
SueEllenGraceland 1 year ago
@SueEllenGraceland
ThomasWadeFraser 1 year ago
@ThomasWadeFraser Your life expectancy is higher simply because American fast food culture has made us obese... it is not your health care. In spite of that the difference is one year, which basically means if a US citizen stays at an optimum weight they will outlive you.
timroyal2002 1 year ago
@timroyal2002
ThomasWadeFraser 1 year ago
@ThomasWadeFraser - I am not arguing against health care, I am arguing against government run health care. It is always interesting to me that everyone is so parochial that they view their system as the best. Americans in general do not have as positive a view toward government interference as Europeans (to say the least).
timroyal2002 1 year ago
@timroyal2002
Why is government run healthcare bad?
Our NHS is in debt, yes, but not all systems are -france for example. I know our healthcare system best.
Today I went to see my psychologist. In America that would have been extremely expencive; its so expencive they make jokes about it on sitcoms. But it did not cost me a penny.
I have been to America, and I have met people who are massively in debt becaus of private insurance companies. We dont have that problem here.
ThomasWadeFraser 1 year ago
@ThomasWadeFraser See my subsequent post... first of all the fact that it works (?) in a small country like the UK, does not mean it would work in a nation of over 300 million with an enormous land area and rural areas that create issues you cannot even imagine. Europe is nothing like the USA and as time goes on the political and logistical realities become more and more of a divide. Secondly, stay away from the psychobabble, stats show they are a waste of time.
timroyal2002 1 year ago
@timroyal2002
And ofcourse then there is the simple question:
Is Healthcare a right, or a privalege?
ThomasWadeFraser 1 year ago
@ThomasWadeFraser - It is not massively different from any but the highest rated Asian nations. There is only a bit over 2 years difference between USA and France, etc. per Wikipedia. Also, the USA is a massively different and larger country than yours and so honestly, why are you debating us? In terms of land and population size there can be no comparison between our HC system and yours.
timroyal2002 1 year ago
Universal Health care Rocks. Must suck to live in a third world nation like the US.

Bill1275w 1 year ago
@Bill1275w Yeah... those Jesus nuts who risk their life to bring fresh water and food in the REAL Third World. When was the last time you Europeans did anything real for anyone except talk?
timroyal2002 1 year ago
I think it's shocking that America's Military budget far outweighs it's healthcare budget.
I think that Obama was trying to get the free healthcare for people and the people were like "No,we would prefer our hard earned tax dollar went toward having the best equipped army"
People's choice,end of story.call me naive,it's just an impression.
JosephMelia 1 year ago

I am healthy and happy.
cbens 1 year ago 22
@cbens: Talk to me when you have diabetes & your kidneys fail. They have a policy of making such people wait until they die. From a political perspective, the great thing about dead people, they don't vote anymore. They aren't likely to hold you accountable for killing them. The vast majority, who are in relative health, enjoy the luxury of not being responsible & planning for their health care. (I'm talking about you.) Those who have serious health problems die off soon enough.

@cbens YEEE same thing happened to me man, represent from canada.
oubasy 1 year ago
@cbens In case you haven't noticed: it wasn't free. Someone paid for it. It was either you, your insurance company, your mother/father, or it was the whole population by their taxes.

@gamebuster800 Better than paying to make living hell of other peoples worlds through some cracked out ape-crazy war.
Itseasyifyoutry 1 year ago
@gamebuster800 Yes, it was the whole population, via taxes. Proper universal healthcare kicks ass, I care not one fuck if someday I end up paying high taxes for it, it is a brilliant service and one that all first world countries should have.
pamew 1 year ago
@gamebuster800
YES, that is exactly right. Thanks. It is being paid for by someone, usually through the taxes paid by Americans.

There is nothing wrong with paying taxes that contribute to a public health service. I'd rather that people like cbens were able to use tax money to get the health care they require, because it means they're more likely to either find jobs if they don't already have one or can get back into the work force quicker... which ultimately means they're a productive member of society helping to keep the wheels of the economy turning.
bobcwashington 1 year ago
@gamebuster800 This is true. Taxpayers know they are paying for students and elderly people to get free stuff and they know they are paying for the NHS, but they also know that the NHS has no money making incentive; it is not a fraudulant business; it's just there to help people get better. This works much better than corrupt insurance companies scamming people of their money when they discover their broken spine was VOID of cover because of whatever small print.
cbens 10 months ago
@gamebuster800 Well then it should be taxes. If everyone shares the payment equally, then it leads to a less corrupt healthcare service. For example, if you needed major surgery, in a place like America, you would have to pay the fee which could be $1000's, but if we pay only a small amount regularly, it benefits everyone in the longrun.
AdGarUK 9 months ago
@cbens Money doesn't appear out of thin air, you idiot. Either YOU paid for it, SOMEBODY ELSE paid for it or YOUR CHILDREN will pay for it.
More than likely, you paid for it through your taxes, plus a little extra that is spent on other people.
You're somewhat healthy and happy that the government is screwing you out of your own money.
Anderasio 1 year ago
@cbens You know why it was free? Cause someone else pays for it, the Government doesn't magically pull that money out of their ass do you?
