try going into your alert settings for the GPS device, because it has different choices for what distance you want it to notify you of that "Point of Interest" ,assuming you did a trapster POI export based on your defined radii, and increase the distance?...
I agree the 9500ix's distance was short, but it takes speed into account, and knows you were going the speed limit. I have seen other demos where it notifies you 300+ feet away. thats still not what I would like, but should give enough time to slow.
law states if no speed limit is placed u must go 40mph
