  • Everything After 2000 is crap, of course there are a few exceptions...a few

  • @P0wnyu If you think about it though, there are a lot of people who would agree with that...maybe a change is coming.:)

  • @78robbikins yes but in the 30's the great depresson was just ending and world war 2 started in 39 so i dont know what your saying.

  • @allfantasticthings21 Soooooo true! I feel the same!

  • Oh I love it!!!!

  • I just love how she sings this song. I can't get enough. It's like the melody was written for her voice alone.

  • Absolutely sublime! I've never heard a recording of Billie Holliday singing this song. As always, she tells an absorbing story, while also creating an instrumental solos. Thanks for the post.

  • Music from this era beats out anything now. I shouldn't have been born in the 90's.

  • Haha I didn't notice until I took my attention off of the computer screen, I was moving my legs and head along to the music :D

  • love the sound of the 30s /40s jazz music.bille had a great voice

  • @leitrimrose78 have a listen to carro emerald

  • top music

  • I wish she would sing it at a slower pace - like tony bennett. I love this song.

  • Absolutely the classic and not to ever come again or repeated jazz. Love it.

  • @KaratePerson619 welcome to the club, I'm 15 and love Billie Holiday

  • There is &will always be only ONE Lady Day!She has been my inspiration since childhood!(been playing piano&singing since the age of 3)I was fortunate my Grandparents had kept sooo many of Her&the other Greats LP's that I still have&actually getting to see a few Greats left before they died as a small child! If only we could put the Music BACK in the MUSH-ICK we have now!No one could tear your heart out or make you have such a spring in your step when you listen to Her Sing!So many, many Greats!

  • The song end >": Oh well, its never to late for a replay ^~^

  • This is an alternate take to the one published in the original disc. Man, early Benny Goodman could have easily pass for a New Orleans player...

  • While I'm normally a big fan of Billie Holiday, I can't help but feel that this is one of the weaker versions of a beautiful song. It shouldn't be done to a swing beat, but slower, more soulful. Even Michael Buble's was too jazzy.

  • listening to billly i feel like amy winewho??? dont know her

  • I'm just discovering how much I love Billie Holiday and the music of her time...I was definatly born about sixty years too late...

  • the best version ever... BILLIE YOU WIL BE ALWAYS IN OUR EARS!!!!

  • Unbeliveable. This is perfection.

  • I come to Billie when i need to get away from the present; present people, music, atmosphere... where did all the good taste of art go?

  • I didn't she did this first! Love it!

  • BILLIE, BILLIE, BILLIE

  • Proque esque il non ha un tal talento hodie. Post Billie io nunquam ha audite un equalmente bon intonation, phrasar e rythmo. • America's true gift to the world.

  • Billie I <3 you.

  • my grandpa was orn 1933. haha still gumpy at times but we love him

  • I was clearly born in the wrong decade. This is much better than the majority of music we have out there today! <3

  • @allfantasticthings21 Feel the same way haha but atleast we have youtube to listen it anyway (:

  • @wuzzaaa1 True, true :)

  • @allfantasticthings21

that is so true... i wish i was born in a different decade too the music back then was so much better and had meaning, now music is released every single week and it's easy to be an artist without talent than an artists with talent. it's popular to be rubbish which is sad. . . and the good artists in this decade like Aqualung and Hurts and Imogen Heap are all for niche audiences and nobody knows of them because they're not mainstream :(

  • @allfantasticthings21 I thought no one else felt that way! I'm only 16 and I feel like I came straight out of the 40's! And I do agree with you...this stuff will never die...and it's wayyy better than all this other stuff they call "music"...will forever love this music! :)

  • @MJusa995 I will, too! :) I'm glad that I'm not the only 16 year-old who appreciates this stuff; thanks for the lovely comment, as well!

  • @allfantasticthings21 I so agree with you, the music was better in those days know its so hard to find good music.

  • @allfantasticthings21 of course it is

  • @allfantasticthings21 Because this is real and is uncaring of monetary gain. It's from the soul, not the brain.

  • @allfantasticthings21 Very true. Things tend to be much more shallow and pretentious nowadays.

  • @allfantasticthings21 Wouldn't base that on music there haha

  • @allfantasticthings21 If I could give you a million more thumbs up I would. I completely agree!

  • @allfantasticthings21, this music is still here. Just because it wasn't made yesterday doesn't mean you were born in the wrong decade. At this time, the 30's-60's ish were actually not good at all. Of course the music and art and such were absolutely amazing, but the social and economic issues greatly outweigh the goodness of that time. Be happy you are here at this time, you're quite blessed.

  • @MMC72899 The 1950s were the best economic time in American history, so I don't understand anything you're saying lol

  • @MMC72899 I have to disagree with you. This generation marks the first in history that yearns for the past instead of the future. The truth is, our future is bleak. We live in a world where everything is given to us, and on the surface that's great, but beneath it we find ourselves unsatisfied. They had their problems, as we have ours today, some worse than others. You can't say those times weren't good at all because, of course, they were.

  • @oniyurisan, You have a very good point. I mean more of the social issues more than anything else, I should've clarified that. And while our future might be "bleak", I think that currently we have a fairly good society. Yes, there are still a lot of things that need to be changed for the better, but saying the entire generation we have today does not work for what it is given is not the best generalization. Somethings are given to us, some things are worked for.

  • @MMC72899 I think we can both agree that there were issues in both generations. What I really meant regarding being given everything is that, sure we work many hours at our jobs for sometimes measly pay. But I've never had to literally WORK for what I get. If I spend money to have the internet, I have infinite possibilities. I can learn, play, basically discover anything. Most people on this page discovered Billie Holiday right here on youtube! I'm not saying the internet is bad now,

  • @oniyurisan I just feel that it's things like that that make our generation fail to see the luxuries that they have. We have so much that we take for granted, while back then I believe they felt truly lucky to have what they had. However there is no doubt at all that the social issues have changed for the better. I'm glad society has become more and continues to be more accepting of who some of us still regard as 'different people'.

  • @oniyurisan, I completely agree with that. Well said, friend.

  • @allfantasticthings2 thats very true ...

  • @allfantasticthings21 All art is good my friend, just not suitable for ur taste. :)

  • WTF! someone dislikes this song...losers! Well you must not understand or fully get her concept of her music.

  • @BBlap23 They might just not like jazz... personally, I like mostly everything, lets not criticize others opinions as they're just opinions, not truths to live by!

  • BEST VERSION. That's all. :)

  • @MoldCheese

The jazz dictionary would call this "small group swing/vocal jazz of the highest order".

I - with my aversion to hyperbole - call it "Lady Day, Teddy, Prez & all the other great f*** geniuses recording the hands down most awesome, infinitely listenable, even after 1000 times still incredible, breathtaking and headshaking stuff in the history of 20th century music.

You can call it "the Holy Grail of jazz singing", listen and be mesmerized! THIS will N-E-V-E-R come again!

  • @sepiapanorama

Amen to that... Truly gilded stuff... Breathtaking

  • @sepiapanorama Hey...shut up

  • @sepiapanorama amy winehouse was pretty close R.I.P

  • @sepiapanorama

I seriously love your comment. It's rare to see people love jazz today, especially in Vietnam. It seems that I've never met a person into this kind of music outside. They all love crap.

Billie Holiday and other old great artists of this golden days might remain eternally as we should call "America's culture at its finest"

And I prefer smooth jazz or cool jazz to swing jazz.

  • Does anyone know what type of music this is?

  • @MoldCheese

    swing/jazz

  • @MoldCheese Good. It's the type of music that's good.

  • I watched my best friends wedding with julia roberts the other night and this song he sang to her while on the boat was so sad.

Billie is an amazing singer and whats up with only 106 likes, there should be more.

  • Genius!

  • Superb vocals, incredible musicians. It's got the lot

  • it's outrageous, the little number of views here

  • wonderful song!!

  • nobody phrases like lady day - absolutely beguiling!

  • one of my favorite songs from lady day

  • @TheRunaway56

This is one of my favorites too! Lady Day's phrasing in this song is impeccable and perfect in every way. She makes it look very easy but it's far from easy. This is one of my favorite songs and I love Frank Sinatra's version but Billie Holiday offers a different spin on this classic standard.

  • so many renditions of this song <3

  • Também te amo, Billie Holiday!

  • Wow...long intro!! hahaha :) amazing song <3

  • thank youuuuuu !!!!!!
