wow- can actually see where i was @ 9:51, sat in the front enclosure, having succeeded in breaking in the second time i tried (had loved rem since i'd heard their first demo played on the radio...) was actually loaned a security pass by mark owen (from take that, no less...!!!), whom i totally failed to recognise, such was my focus on, and joy in, finally getting to see rem live... shared much herbage with said mark & his friends, as a thank-you for facilitating one of the best gigs of my life.
I was there that night and remember the buzz coming from the tens of thousands gathered in anticipation of REM taking the stage. Can't beat festivals for seeing bands, everybody's so up for it.
first time i heard it I couldn't stand the damn thing and put it away for a while. I tried it once again later, this time playing it all the way through and after i was done i played it again. It continues to grow on me with every listen. Funny how that happens sometimes.
Wow! This was my first Glastonbury - this was an awesome set - well, from what I can remember!! ;) Cheers for the post, brought back some mad memories
He might look unhealthy but he sang one of the fastest songs around while running up and down, having his arm grabbed by about 300 people, jumping off and onto the stage and going mental for 5 minutes. I'm 24 and I'd be gasping for breath after less than half of that!
remember storming to the front when they kicked off the set with lotus...great weekend...topped off by FLC playin scooby snax on the sunday night......good times
this was the best live gig i have ever seen. brilliant that night and might have had something to do with the countless narcotics i had in me. ahhhhhh them were the days......
I was there. Had to get pulled out of the crowd as had a bit of a panic attack after smoking!...Also earlier that day, I did my first ever crowdsurf (aged 19 then) during Hole..it was amazing looking back whilst getting carried to the front and seeing the vast crowd!
Yeah a bloody brilliant gig it was , I did indeed feel fine!

i still count this as one of the most life affirming points in my life.... in the middle of a 100,0000 people feeling fine is a pretty cool place!

Waronker is excellent in these gigs. REM should have kept him.

I know what you mean! When I first heard Monster... it was like "Well... I want to like it... but....." It grows on you after a while.
My only problem with Monster is that to many of the songs sound alike. IMO. My fav song is You.

I was there. 19 years old. Hazy memories, but happy ones!

This rendition of "End of the World" is amazing. The other video of them doing it 1989 is horrible. They got a lot better over the years.
