Thank you for the lessons. The confusion is coming from the differences in formality and familiarity in conversation. If you were at a business meeting and had to ask a senior officer his family name you would not say either of those expressions. I do appreciate however that you are trying to keep the lessons simple. Thanks again.

and are you going to teach us how to write the characters....i havent gotten very far in ur lessons...so i dont know if you do it further down the line...i'm just wondering ^^

you can't leave out 名字 since it means name... without it you'll only be saying... What is?

lol well i dont say ni jiao shi me...i'd say ni jiao shenme.... but i dont know if there is a different...its in my book that way...but then again...my book had some things wrong and it had to be corrected...
