I remember once I was fighting Shadow in the second battle and he reappeared within a string of rings (like at 9:31 ) and I managed to damage him when I performed a light dash through the string.

Also, I think Sonic Heroes boss battles were worse. Egg Emperor, the final battles and, MAYBE (just maybe) the team vs. team battles were the only ones that felt right as boss battles.
