to all who say that robots will take over, duh of course they will. it's only natural. look at it this way, evolution was always about making things that survive. we will give life to robots in our own image that will exceed our limitations. Also if you can't make a distinction between "then" and "than" then no one is going to miss you when you get replaced by a robot.
Scary thing is that if a computer becomes intelligent, and with intelligence I mean you can learn and make your own decitions, it Could be the end of all humans.
Since a computer can compute trillions times faster than any human, and have, instead of a memory that needs to repeatetly learn to remember, a AI robot would just store data on drives, and that would mean that after reading/seeing anything for the first time they would know it.
And unless the robot has a conscience it would a danger.
I just got replaced in the factory line by one of these plastic people. I'm now unemployed and having to go back to school. I was none too pleased when I found out my teacher was also a plastic person. Is this a dream?
@HoverboardFan14 Or saves your life depending on the human weilding it. It is no different then any other human directed tool or technology. A frying pan can kill you as well if droped on your head from high enough or it can simply cook your meal. Don't be affraid of tools or knowledge be affraid of people who are bad and use tools and knowledge to do bad. Avoiding dangerous knowledge and tools is a strategic as embracing ignorance and an empty tool box. Smart criminals will then win.
@kendallarroz not really...the matrix started with alien intelligent robots...but they were too stupid to make efficient batteries so they had to use crappy human bio batteries. We blackened out the sky ...which doesnt seem too smart or possible and again the alien robots were too stupid to un blacken the sky or use space travel to leave the earth..rather they were stuck playing head games with their crappy human bio batteries. Moral...dont believe Hollywood they are ignorant and paranoid!
This is just absolutely amazing. I would love to have a robot like Asimo in my home. I wouldn't want one that is just super intelligent and knows everything already, but one at an almost infantile or pet state like this one. That way, I could teach it and watch it learn and grow, just like a child, pet, or friend. I really would love to see robots and humans interacting at an equal level. Unfortunately, it will be many decades until we get to that point. I only hope that I am still here.
@id493337 Let's face it, there's job security in slavery and job security is an important thing to keep in mind in today's economy. Personally I look forward to serving our robot overlords.
he probably needs around 500TB of memory and multiple Quad-core processors to run this thing. Probably some Ram too because there's really just a complicated PC in there too.
Hmm. To have a super brain memory storage like the human brain, we will need atleast 500,000,000 GB of memory and a super fast 600 GHZ processing unit.
A better knowledge of balance and skills, such as running, and we are all set and are ready to move on to the NEXT level.
@UbAhKrUncHiEzZz I think the funnier thing is that when Asimo says mini pooper, both times, the British guy tells him that he is correct in calling it a mini pooper lol.
I think object recognition is a major step to real AI. Not only that, but the ASIMO is learning to find the essentual characteristics for the idea of chair. If a robot can understand an universal (Plato) then it can begin to abstract things. I would much like to see object recognition pushed farther than just visual information, but link multiple sensory information sets in a larger universal. We recognize things by many different methods, not just visually.
@vality1 it seems that way. Learning is just a sorting of objects and events with words, and the ability to recall them to act in an environment. A greater question is what purposes will it serve? Also I don't think it can imagine... seeing as there are no algorithms for that yet as far as my research on the topic allows me to conclude.
i wonder if they have given him a sense of balance. say if you would give him a hard push and wither he would fall down or take a step back in order to avoid it
wow, that's amazing! ...reminds me of wall-e's gf...eva? lol. i can already imagine a.i. robots out in the real world doing several mundane tasks, taking over many jobs....i hope we don't have something like in the Terminator really happen =/
Also, this sort of technology will probably not be used for wars (though it may possibly be). The most likely tasks these robots will perform are benifits to the elderly or disabled, and rescuing humans from hazardous zones like a collapsed building. They may also do more menial tasks like serving food etc.
Not to be disrespectful to all you believers (indeed, believe what you like) but this is vast proof against the existance of any god since science is able to create this marvel, and science proved evolution. Man was not spontaniously created by some great being but evolved from primates in africa millions of years ago.
Humans, being able to make this after years of research and through some of the most advanced technology available, is not the same as it happening in nature.
Some japanese think that rocks, metal and every stuff have soul ..or something like that :D well almost, because in future robot (what's made from metals and some shit) can actually be pretty smart.
that is sooooo cool! this makes me want to travel to japan or wherever they have this thing and meet it and show it stuff. except right now it's late at night and i keep thinking asimo's going to pop out of nowhere and say hello or something. eek. but holy crap, machines can make judgements. judgements. that's huge! if we continue at this rate, maybe emotions, although emotional robots might be a bad thing unless they had a cute personality like WALL-E or something.
@gocanadayayyy im sorry to say robots will never have emotions.only if we program them to. WALL-E was of course a SCI-FI kinda thing. But what they r doing is just programming him to say and do all the stuff. But the Computer is learning but its pretty much like u accessing all of our brain
Yes, that is inevitable, just like the internet is used for war, and nuclear power. The problem is not the technology. It is our attitude and disrespect for other people's rights and well been.
that is a far stretch my friend there are 200 to 400 billion stars in the milkyway and that is just one galaxy and there have been studies into how many galaxys there are and they have came up with at least 100 billion but recent studies have indicater 500 million and that is only based on what the hubble telescope can find... and that is only a fraction of the universe now a molecule may be small but the average brain isnt that big the average brain size for each person their two fists together
wktimpco, you need to identify that this is real. The human brain is a logistics processor, and is all electrical charges. Asimo does as you would do - Identifying an object's characteristics and confirming them, as well as an objects properties to make judgements upon relations.
Hoopla. The movements are programmed. He is in learn mode; so those "Hmm...what's that" motions do not help the robot at all. It's just public relations to compete the illusion. The illusion includes the "reporter" claiming the robot makes judgments. Skipping over the irrefutable logic, I'll just say that only humans can do judgment.
The AI being developed and used in this robot is largely reverse engineered from mammal brains. It involves using both spacial and temporal pattern recognition together. The robot remembers patterns of patterns of patterns of space and time configurations. The datastructure they are using performs what we would consider to be human abstraction, but mathematically.
wktimpco... I guess you've never experienced or observed the behavior (both independent and social) of any non-human animal - specifically the more intelligent ones? It's weird what urban life has done to some people...
