also, it doesnt hurt to add a full synthetic 2 cycle engine oil to the fuel either. i use 6 drops per 3 gallons ethanol. the ethanol distillery belongs to another friend of mine and my truck runs and drives just fine. it costed nothing for his permit and he now makes over 20 gallons of ethanol per day which i think is the balls!! he gives me free fuel every other day after putting in hard work at the farm ;)
well, i think the point of making homemade ethanol using cheap materials and sugar grains or corn and using wood logs or coal for the fire heat and people making 10 gallons per day or more, fueling their cars or trucks and rarely seeing a gas station ever again, is the whole point. i can buy a 1 pound bag of grain sugar from the local dollar store and anything corn related from my friend for free. so ill be driving while youre all still paying? haha see ya ;)
I am in the alternative fuels business, and I can see the ignorance in some of the posts herein. Ethanol isn't the answer, unless you like bankruptcy. Take away my subsidy and I am out of business tomorrow, and we are losing money now. Anyone who thinks ethanol is going to replace gasoline in America has no clue as to reality. If you think is such a good idea, join us and start your own distillery. Your learning curve will be sharp, high, and swift. Stupid is as stupid does.
price of goods go up thanks to inflation (printing money out of thin air). END the FED. Don't use food to make biodiesel. Use switch grass, wood chips, and lawn clippings, etc. Legalize hemp.
What a jerk. This guy continues to give half truth and lies to fit his argument. Same old tactic used left and right by those with some form of vested interest in seeing alternatives fail.
As an example, he states that ethanol needs to be 99% pure or better to run in an internal combustion engine. Yet, he doesn't state that this is only true when that ethanol is being mixed with gasoline. To get gasoline to mix, it must be this pure. Yet, 99% pure is great when by itself. What a joke.
Hopes put on Bio-fuels are way over stated to say the least. Ethanol is Very expensive, not energy dense, takes about the same energy to produce it as it puts out. Bio-fuel is ruining engines because it causes high carbon build up in your engine. The human toll is large, people are starving because now food is very high.
Now the Obama EPA wants to have me put 15% ethanol into my gas tank. Good bye cars.
any way once the back yard still produces the low quality fuel it has reduced the volume of transportable goods and increased the efficiency of the transportable low grade fuel to apropriate location via pipe line .........think out of the box!!!!!! mr engineeer and make jobs
He needs to go back to school, clearly being either greatly misinformed or a shill for Big Oil. I've been running up to E-30 in my non FFV for thousands of miles, with the best mpg at E-18 and best mp$ at about E23. Absolutely no problems. I don't know why you would want to use toxic gasoline instead of clean ethanol for your car.
If Edison, Bell, the Wright Brothers, Henry Ford had listened to this asshole, we'd be in the stone age. I understand he has to fight to keep his job, but others like us are running cars on Ethanol.
Will someone tell this Butt Wipe that we can make Ethanol from Cattails and get more from that than corn. Talk about being a mouth piece for the petroleum Institute!
Our corn is so genetically modified no other country want it and most farmers who farm it DON'T EAT THIS SHIT! I have a 2001 Saturn and I've been running half tank gas/half tank E-85. You're an ASSHOLE!
There are many viable alternatives that have been suppressed by big oil companies , such as hydrogen , air powered cars , and they killed the electric car , and still suppress and lie about these technologies , its not about weather we can come up with an idea , it's WHEN will these idea's be allowed to prosper !
@mikehanoo33 Wrong show me any air car that goes over walking speed and more than 6 miles on a charge. Show me how you can make Hydrogen from water and not use more power making it than it makes when used. No one is holding back on any ideas, if you can make it people will buy it and you will be the richest person on the planet.
They need to chop the corn when it is green. The whole plant should be chopped up right at the field where it is grown and put into mash on site. The fermentation process needs to be started on the site where it is grown and the solids filterted out. Then the mash can be hauled to a local site to be distilled and sold in the same area. The idea of transporting the raw products everywhere to a central site is economic madness. Every town needs a distillation plant. Smaller plants impact less.
Plus, virtually no impoverished nation will accept our corn, even when it is offered as charity, due to its being genetically modified and therefore unfit for human consumption.
Also, fermenting the corn to alcohol results in more meat than if you fed the corn directly to the cattle. We can actually increase the meat supply by first processing corn into alcohol, which only takes 28% of the starch, leaving all the protein and fat, creating a higher-quality animal feed than the original corn.
We have to find another alternative because if you ask me this could cause a worldwide food shortage and I want to see how the people are going to react when they can´t even afford a loaf of bread anymore. Not to speak about all the poor in this world that are going to starve. I´m more for solar energy they should rather put more effort in bringing out a decent car that only uses solar energy. Unfotunately they can´t sell solar energy (sunshine is free of charge)
Well we are introduceing this biofuel in Germany at the moment and I´m not sure that this is the right thing to do. All the farmers here complain that they can´t make a decent living from growing crops, so this means they are going to all produce for this biofuel, which then in turn will make the prices for food explode. That means that less corn etc. will be exported and the poor in this world will starve to death, is that what we want.
Ethanol is not the only Biofuel you can make ''bio diesel'' and that is basically re-cycled vegetable oil and the odd chemical to help it feed more like conventional diesel in your car, its pretty much the same as diesel (fossil fuel) in performance so another alternative.
Henry Ford of Dearborn, Michigan pioneered making plastics from vegetable matter. He demonstrated how to make plastic steering wheels and many other car parts from soybeans and other vegetable matter. Vegetable-derived plastics are also more easily recyclable.
Construction materials such as particle board, shingles, blocks, paints, and sealants can also be made from crops such as hemp.
@whyputaname Thats why we need to use small organic farms , with no petroleum based fertilizers , its being done now , but someone wants us to believe we cant live without petroleum products , which is a complete lie , anything you can make from petroleum you can make from hemp , google it , do your own research !
@hotmichael3358 You are right, the people who want us to believe that we can't live with out Oil are obviously the Oil Corporations.
Shoot, they already have the formulas to make plastics and so forth out of corn, hemp, and so forth. But the problem is the Oil Corporations don't want to give up the almighty dollar.
The would rather destroy the environment, keep importing from countries that are not particularly fond of us. Then give the choice of going alternative.
@whyputaname Right on whyputaname - Free energy labeled 'economic terrorism' - The widespread adoption of these new, non-polluting energy and propulsion systems will effectively replace the use of oil, gas, coal, nuclear power, impacting 4.5 trillion dollars a year in world economic activity, replace the current geo-political order with one based on decentralized abundance. (Examiner; March 21, 2009)
@mikehanoo33 not everyone who disagrees with you are paid by the oil industry. Some of them might wish they where, I hear they pay pretty well for PR. But running the "youre bought" card cheapens your argument. oh...wait...youre just barfing out someone elses argument. Try thinking for yourself a wee bit, k.
Excellent foundation, and well reasoned statement of the practical limitations of bio fuels, as anything other than a short term stopgap alternative to the current oil dependent paradigm. Begging the question, what is your view of the most promising, more efficient and eco friendly alternatives----from the same perspective of practical, cost effective, and efficient, environmentally conservative parameters? Pros and cons of solar, wind, hydrogen, etc?
Firstly, ethanol has as much power as gasoline, if not more. Second, even if what Fridley says about the supply of corn, or corn use for ethanol driving up the price of food, corn is not needed at all to make ethanol. There's plenty of other items that can be used. Third, his descriptions of how our finely tuned gasoline engines can't efficiently handle ethanol is an outright lie, as most fuel injected cars can safely use up to E-50 with no modifications whatsoever. Ethanol cleans engines.
Benefits like it costs less, it pollutes less, it's made domestically, if if leaks someplace it evaporates and/or breaks down without killing all the animal life (although they might get drunk).
Regarding how many cars: virtually all cars since 1990 can be cheaply retrofitted to be optimized. That's hundreds of millions of cars right now. For new cars to be built optimized the costs are under $100.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@TheAutoChannel "if if leaks someplace it evaporates and/or breaks down without killing all the animal life (although they might get drunk)."
From the MSDS HyperGlossary: "Ethanol is sold commercially in denatured form, meaning that a small amount of a difficult to remove and toxic material such as benzene has been added. The purpose of this is to prevent people from drinking and/or selling the ethanol" Want to bet whether it would harm animals???
So it would be the "denatured" element that is dangerous. That element is usually gasoline. Yes, gasoline will hurt the animals. So thanks for making the same point that we make, gasoline should be eliminated.
@TheAutoChannel As was previously explained to you but you didn't get it so it appears you do not have a firm grasp of the obvious, so here the explanation: hvchemical,com/msds/deal.htm
Drunk is better than dead. But yes, I think drunk animals would be very mellow; just sitting around singing 50's and 60's rock & roll songs. Haven't you ever heard a pack of dogs sing "Barbara Ann?"
Benefits like it costs less, it pollutes less, it's made domestically, if if leaks someplace it evaporates and/or breaks down without killing all the animal life (although they might get drunk).

@4TIMESAYEAR Yes that´s the big question, older models will have problems handling this biofuel, maybe they are doing this to force people to buy new cars. The industry has all the benefits not us. The normal fuel in Germany will be a few cents more expensive than the biofuel (which is more expensive to produce), so the people buying the normal fuel will be paying for the production on this biofuel. Great isn´t it. So if you don´t like paying more buy a new car. Great!
I hate to tell you all, but ethanol is a method by which our american oligarchy will reduce our population. Ethanol corn is a genetically modified organism. It also interbreeds with wild type corn (more or less or regular food corn). As the years progress, or food stock corn will be a highly imbalanced form of nutrition. The general population, who eats said corn, will thus begin seeing strange health problems and lower lifespan as a result of eating said corn.Save the earth or kill the ppl?
What he doesnt tell you is all those things you have to do to make ethanol from corn "moving it, using energy to make it, seperate it from water, process it, etc"
you also have to do to crude oil.
Move it, refine it, etc
and even if it has 23% less energy in the same amount of liquid. it has 0 green house gasses.
combustion engines are also a disaster, thats why they break down and need maintainence regularly. Watch who killed the electric car, then fire up a spliff and open your eyes to the truth
Lying idiot. Oil is just cheap in America because we subsidize it. Its expensive as hell everywhere else and that's why the rest of the world drives sensibly small cars. Brazil's success is a great example of his stupidity and his believer's inability to research anything at all. Stop the lies. Free the people
I hear no mention of anything but corn as a feedstock used for alcohol production. Corn is about the WORST feedstock to use. There are upwards of 100 other feedstock that can be grown in this country on very little of our land, and many of which are 10 or more times superior to corn as far as quantity of alcohol produced vs. land needed. You are an IDIOT! Do your homework then come back and see me. Or listen to this guy.. oh yeah and what about Algee?? Nothing there either????
This guys says biofuel in general wont work. THATS WHY HE"S BEING INTERVIEWED, AND PAID BY BIG OIL!!! If you really did you're homework you'd know that biofuel will work and in fact do work. Ever hear of a little country called BRAZIL genius?! Go away dude, you dont know what you're talking about.. Just do things like make fun of spelling errors to make everyone think you do.
Why are you so mean for? I've watch the video, read the books and even made some myself, and let tell you its not all that its cracked up to be. If you done your research you will know that it take roughly 20 pounds of corn to make 1 gallon of ethanol it would take LOT MORE from say sweetgrass to produce that same one gallon. Plus you get about 20% less mpg. And the cost, shit, i wasn't saving any money. I fact it was costing me more even with the tax incentive.
No dude, ethanol is a pure choice. Ho and algae-right now it is only good for diesel if that, it still has some time to go before we can use it as real energy source. if you haven't you need to make some ethanol and see what i'm taking about.
My choice is Hydrogen. Yep lets get some solarcell put some rods into water and let them bubbles go. The sun isn't going away and they have cars now that uses it.
I would love to see this fuck head lyer and David Blume in the same room but this guy wouldnt want anything to do with that..I said it once and ill say it again "have fun with all that exxon mobil money" you souless gutless lying sack of shit! and after reading"alcohol can be a gas" i admit i was wrong about the energy desity/octane thing.. And Map32968 are you sticking up for this guy? Can you inlighten us as to a solution, or should we all listen to this guy..?
Biofuels arent enegry dens enough? Even though ethanol is a higher octane at105 the the highest gasoline is at 93..? This guy is a jackass! Have fun cashing that check from exxon mobel jerkoff!!!
Ethanol is not a threat to oil prices, like he said, all land in the US would only give about 12% of oil used per day, or about 2-3 million barrels a day. In fact oil industry loves ethanol, because they can say they're green and invest money in ethanol which doesn't threaten them instead of being forced to invest in real technology like solar or wind. Google all of the oil industry investments in ethanol and its research.
not sure why i read your peoples comments its evident that most of you never payed attention to what the man had to say before you started blasting him... oh and the model T engine was not a modern engine part of the whole if we took a step back then localy produced ethonal would be viable...
rikshail-"if we took a step back then localy produced ethonal would be viable"
It burns too fast to be viable. If we are to burn corn for fuel, the most direct way would be the most efficient - and corn burning stoves would serve us better, freeing up natural gas for vehicles.
This short video says it all, in fact u don't have to be a rocket scientist to compare simple numbers. The "green fuel" is just a myth, not only unsustainable but also exponentially damaging in economic & ecological terms.
ALL TRUE, Government is trying to control energy costs. Using food for gas is ridiculus.
Water vapor, responsible for 95% of Earth's greenhouse effect, is 99.999% natural (some argue, 100%). Even if we wanted to we can do nothing to change this.
Anthropogenic (man-made) CO2 contributions cause only about 0.117% of Earth's greenhouse effect, (factoring in water vapor). This is insignificant!
Brazil has done it with sugarcane. Both sugarcane and hemp are viable sources, but corn is not. The reason we don't use sugarcane (or import the the fuel from Brazil) is because of old protection laws to help the sugar industry against imports. And that keeps sugar prices high in the US. This is also why the we use High Fructose Corn Syrup instead of sugar to sweeten many foods and drinks.
you are one of the only people on youtube who sounds like they know what they are talking about. I thank you. you are perfecty right. but The United states can make ethanol out of allot more stuff then just Corn, its not are only choice.
@HerrSchenkel I agree with most of what you say ,I would love to see Hemp used for fuel , but even corn can make a much better fuel then petrol , when corn is done right on small farms where they use all the leftovers for fertilizer and cow feed and to fire the furnace for the still , it is much more energy efficient and cleaner and only costs about a dollar per gallon , as it does in Brazil , they cant give petrol fuel away down there !Check out David Blumes work for the truth .
He's just another talking head spewing disinformation (clue #1-global public media). Corn for fuel is shit, it has no mass. Henry Ford used methanol from hemp to fuel his cars. Also Rudolph Diesel invented diesel fuel from cold pressed hemp seed oil.
He says we need 99.5% or pure-er ethanol for running cars, which he says needs expensive equipment. But wasn't it Henry Ford whose model-T (the first mass produced car) was running on common ethanol? Have we forgotten that a 100 year old technology could already make cars run on common ethanol?
Didn't he say "if we could turn back the clock" and make use of simpler combustion engines, lower-purity ethanol would be viable? The 99.5%-pure ethanol requirement is a result of modern engines, designed to operate with fossil fuels.
It is great to see some intelligent comments from "informed" people here. All of the comments made by this so called scientist were skewed at best. Most were just downright false. Why is it that no one tells that it takes 3 times the energy to produce a gallon of gasoline than is produced by the gasoline?
With modern ethanol production it takes the same energy to produce a gallon of ethanol as it produces. Distillers grains make excellent livestock feed so what food are we trading for ethanol?
Nearly all ethanol plants are using corn still. I worked at the first plant in Calif and we hauled corn in from the midwest to feed the huge appetite of the process. I can see why food prices have gone up so much. We need to use non-food and non livestock feed for making ethanol, and try to capture the tons of C02 released during fermentation. You would not believe the volumes of C02 it churns out.
Why do Ethanol videos only talk about corn? Because it's easier to tell half truths with corn, since there are 20 crops America can grow that are 2x to over 10x more ethanol per acre than corn.
Corn is energy positive, unless You count distillation leftovers as sewage you have to pay to haul off instead of valuable and superior livestock feed as Pimentel did.
Corn as a whipping boy is what cowards do when they have nothing else to stand on.
Ethanol is 43 to 46% thermal efficient on engines recently made by VW and Mercedes. The best ICE burning gasoline is 20% T.E. Diesel is better at 35% TE but not as good as these new engines.
Biomas requires work to handle. Growing cattails off of primary treated sewage would require 20 million acres of marginal land such as empty gravel pits, some mine tailing piles, etc. and replacing gas
"Alcohol Can Be A Gas" by Blume. Check Your Library. Food and Fuel is possible.
This guy is spot on. Biomass will never replace oil. The ERoEI is close to 0 with corn because of the fertilizer, water, and trucking costs associated. Ethanol cannot run in a pipeline so you will need tens of thousands of new tanker trucks to move it to market. Are you going to use ethanol to run all those tanker trucks? Market speculation has tripled the price of corn in 2 years, massive famine will begin to sweep the third world next year because these people have to live on a dollar a day.
Poor people can buy Corn DDGS for 9 cents a pound and raise tilapia worth $2. They don't have to be poor any longer since DDGS is 3x more concentrated than raw feeder corn to ship cheaper all over Commodore AlGore's Planet.
ERoEI for corn is 30 to 70% more energy positive than the old studies by that Mobil agent Pimentel who authored for DOE while taking 30 pieces of silver from MOBIL without disclosure. A 7 ton tractor to work 81 acre squirrel ranch is fraud.
He's a Staff Scientist, meaning that he better think outside what his paycheck tells him to do. If he does that, he'll be an unemployed staff scientist. If he and a group of his idiot colleagues sat down with David Blume of "Alcohol can be a Gas" fame, he'd get his so called intellect spanked.
He's a good example of what's wrong with the education system. They learn all the wrong things in books, and are never smart enough to think on their own, experiment, or think out of the box. I've wasted enough energy on this idiot. If I saw him I'd smack him upside his head.
Brazil produce , use, and export ethanol , ethanol is the #1 fuel in brasil , this guy is a hater and the food WTF is he talking about, most of the food in the States , specially fruits are imported from south american countries.
People have been making their own and running it in their cars, and you're talking this shit about distribution and harvesting. See what happens when you want Corporations to do it instead of leaving it up to every town? We can do this, you know we can do this, but your job is more important. The oil people have you right in their pockets. Your job, ASSHOLE is to keep the misinformed, misinformed
I remember the "corporations" doing a fine job. As I recall, the price of gas at the pump increased about 4 cents between 1961 and 1971, before the environmental extremist idiots like you shut down domestic oil production.... Al Gore can go to hell. DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW.
The price of gas has nothing to do with the price of oil. I could care less about environmental extremist, or Al Gore. I do care if we depend on someone else for oil, plain and simple. When Opec decreased their oil production by 3, then 5 % in the 80's no one pick up the production including the USA. Clinton and other Presidents keep using their power for us not to drill here. Let's remember, that the Bushes are oil men, so we've wasted 28 years including the Clinton years.
This IDIOT doesn't realize that all that foliage behind him could be used to make ethanol. He's so stuck on corn. He has to be to make the food for fuel controversy. His job is secure as long as he continues to sing that song.
What in the hell are you talking about? Ever heard of alcohol? Wrong about acreage! We only use 75 million acres out of 1.5 BILLION acres that we have. We can run 50% alcohol mixed in with gas right now without conversion.
It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his SALARY depends upon his not understanding it.
So, it is better to bring oil half way around the world than to haul biomass less than 200 miles? We had the technology to burn ethanol in engines 80 years ago, but it can't be done today? Incorrect "fact" - todays engines can burn 190 proof alcohol (95% ethanol). 190 proof ethanol comes straight out of the still. Make ethanol from the 25 crops that yield more gallons per acre than corn yields. P.S. - The US government currently pays farmers to NOT grow crops on 40 million acres.
ethanol will be the silver bullet to bring down gas prices soon we all be able to get ethanol and then big oil will have a competitor oil has never had to compete competition will drop those high gas prices like a box of hot rocks
this vid was made in 2007. Ethonal form syngas was not well know then. Nor was any cellose ethonal plants where in production. I like syn gas method because there not need for emyamies also any type of biomass can be use like trash and agurature waste.
we can pay ourselves to grow, harvest and process corn, which is a clean burning fuel or we can pay our enemies to drill oil, refine, then ship half way across the world while ceos pocket MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of dollars annually. seems like a pretty easy answer to me. oh, and engines run fine on 180 proof ethanol. This guy is digging for excuses. He must be getting paid by someone.
Ethanol takes almost or more energy to make than you get out of it, depending on who you ask. Even if you take the best case scenario, that is a horribly inefficient use of resources. It causes food prices to rise, that is not even debatable, it's supply and demand, economics 101. It is bad for the environment, corn use is very hard on land, and uses more pesticides than most other crops. Also ethanol is not a good fuel, it is very corrosive and does not have the energy density of gasoline.
Food prices have nothing to do with Ethanol. They eat more meat in India and China because of the growing wealth there thats why. The chinese wants to eat more like us in the west, thats why. Dont blame the ethanol. Only in the US they are using corn ethanol, the ethanol made from sugar cane are much better.
You are a disgusting fucking liar. It is very clear the ethanol scam is driving food price increases. The World Bank has a new report stating exactly that. Report is available from the Guardian. The only beneficiaries are monster Agribusiness like Arthur Daniels Midland, and that because of massive subsidies. It is time to pull the plug on this disasterous policy, now, before millions starve.
So the starvation in the world was invented in 2007 because of the ethanol? lol! You belive the oil-companys propaganda to easy, you can not blame the ethanol for the starvation in the world its much more complicated then that.
The Indy circuit uses alcohol in all it's vehicles. What I love about people who think outside the box (unlike this puppet), they just run their vehicles, and burn it cleaner and prove it can be done. This IDIOT wouldn't have a job if he told the truth. Next he'll tell us that the reason we have pharmacies popping up on every corner in the USA is because we're so sick. It was experts that said man wasn't meant to fly but a couple of bicycle guys choose to JUST DO IT anyway!
Hey IDIOT! We have count em..1,500,000,000 acres of agricultural land in the US and use only 5% of that for corn. If drilling for oil and refining it here was that simple, WHY AREN'T WE DOING IT? Henry Ford talked about and ran his cars on Ethanol in 1908 and warned us about being dependent on foreign Oil. China is running the Olympics on Ethanol to prove it can be done. Meanwhile Brazil has been doing it for years and imports NO FOREIGN oil. Stop selling us the Opec propaganda!
Most people are slowly learning that diverting food crops to make biofuel for inefficient SUV's is a "Crime Against Humanity", but few people seem to understand the well-documented science of the deadly cancer-causing atmospheric "aldehydes" that are produced when ethanol from any source (food OR cellulosic) is burned in internal combustion engines. See YouTube video: "Burning Ethanol: DEADLY Aldehydes"
Biodiesel also produces these unhealthy aldehydes (like Formaldehyde and Acetaldehyde).
Are you aware of all the deadly chemicals in gasoline. When someone locks himself in a garage and turns on the car, it doesn't have the same effect as laughing gas!
This story is brought to you by Exxon. By OPEC not American, cuz Arabs need to eat too!
Energy to make Ethanol? Trust me Oil takes way more energy to ship and process! Plus this stuff is cleaner burning, but hey this guy wont comment on that!
Corn, Grass, Straw, Sugar, Beer, etc.. Brazil uses Ethanol. What a 3rd world country can make it work but this idiot sez otherwise?
And the best part is:...ETHANOL DOESN'T DO JACK!!! THEY'RE COMPLETELY FUCKING WITH US!!! YOU GET THE SAME GAS MILEAGE WHETHER YOU USE 9 GALLONS OF GAS PLUS AS MUCH ETHANOL AS YOU WANT OR IF YOU ONLY USE 9 GALLONS OF PLAIN GAS!
Ethanol will just relplace oil economically, companies will still use it to make money. The only difference, is that ethanol is cleaner. All you people saying that ethanol fuel will only be a dollar, that will never happen. Oil companies will never allow that. The only way to get true energy reform, such as hydrogen cars, solar, etc, would be to get rid of lobbying. And only elect congressmen that will do their job, and put an end ot lobbying. Get rid of lobbying, and you will see the change.
people take your eyes off of corn ethanol it is cellulose ethanol which is promising especially since natural microbes can simplify the process into one step, not to mention it has a the potential to be produced at a cost of 1$ per gallon or less, so even though it is 30% less efficient the projected cost makes it worth it. Than of course hydrogen fuels will be able to convert this fuel at a much more efficient rate. It is only a matter of time.
ok so ethanol is a poor choice, then answer me how can it be that Brazil fuels 1/2 of its
modern cars on e100 using 2% of its' agricultural land. Now they have a surplus of ethanol and the U.S, guv't won't allow Brazil cars or ethanol into U.S. geez this guy could work for Hitler. what bs
Because Brizil doesn't use corn to make their ethanol, they use Sugar Cane. Sugar cane yeilds more energy than corn does. Brizil also doesn't have a population of 300 million people. There is no way we can grow enough corn in the USA to solve our gas problems.
The bottom line is that none of these crops can make it on the free market. If you page through old popular mechanics issues you will see hundreds of claims of things that are going to huge in future. 99% of them never panned out. Thinking that other kinds of biomass are the answer is for chumps who don't understand basic economics. Sugar cane is still subsidized in Brazil, just not as much as in the past. Food based ethanol is a scam perpetrated by special interests, it is a joke.
I understand what your trying to say and I agree that we have to do something to get off oil. But the population of the USA is to big to grow our own fuel. We can grow some, but not enough to supply all our energy needs.
The U.S. Has a 200 year supply of coal and they can make coal into diesel fuel, so maybe we should look into that direction for now??
You also have to look at the cost of alternitive fuels. It it cost more that gas to produce, then that's not the answer. JT
I'm sure your ignorant of the fact that the environmental movement has been funded from the very start, by the people you think your fighting against. The establishment. They call you people "useful idiots", very appropriate since 99% of environmentalists are completely unaware of this.
Who Owns the Environmentalist Movement?
sweetliberty. org /issues /un /environment. htm
These are New World Order organizations. They're happy with you guys. Congratulations.
HAHA! Man you really are a walking, breathing, squawking ironical individual. Do you realize that you yourself, with this attitude and "understanding", are an actual tool for those very persons' purposes which you FREELY CHOOSE to support by funding them with your hard earned dollars?! The tech companies that have engineered and furthered the technologies of solar, wind, hydro and geothermal have nothing to do with the gov. They are individual Co's that have brought us to a new level.
THAT is what I am talking about. THAT IS THE REAL MOVEMENT TOWARD ENERGY INDEPENDENCE. AND THAT is what the issue really is. YOU WANT FREEDOM AND LIBERTY, YOU WANT INDEPENDENCE, IT DOESN'T GET MORE INDEPENDENT THAN THAT WHEN IT COMES TO ENERGY. Example: I paid 8K for a system of wind and solar that has taken me off of the grid and appears as though it will pay for itself in less than 2 years. My future father in law paid 10k adding a solar water heater as well which I also plan to do.
After 2 years I'll actually be earning income as my meter often runs in reverse giving power back to the grid providing energy for people like you that still choose to be dependent to the very people you chastise for your energy needs. I plan on purchasing the less expensive Tesla which is scheduled to debut in 09 and be off of gas as well. So I plan on being fully independent by 2010. So when you say "Who Owns the Environmentalist Movement?" People like me own the environmentalist movement.
also, it doesnt hurt to add a full synthetic 2 cycle engine oil to the fuel either. i use 6 drops per 3 gallons ethanol. the ethanol distillery belongs to another friend of mine and my truck runs and drives just fine. it costed nothing for his permit and he now makes over 20 gallons of ethanol per day which i think is the balls!! he gives me free fuel every other day after putting in hard work at the farm ;)

well, i think the point of making homemade ethanol using cheap materials and sugar grains or corn and using wood logs or coal for the fire heat and people making 10 gallons per day or more, fueling their cars or trucks and rarely seeing a gas station ever again, is the whole point. i can buy a 1 pound bag of grain sugar from the local dollar store and anything corn related from my friend for free. so ill be driving while youre all still paying? haha see ya ;)

AugustusLarch 1 year ago

Unfotunately they can´t sell solar energy (sunshine is free of charge)
ger1ist 1 year ago
Well we are introduceing this biofuel in Germany at the moment and I´m not sure that this is the right thing to do. All the farmers here complain that they can´t make a decent living from growing crops, so this means they are going to all produce for this biofuel, which then in turn will make the prices for food explode. That means that less corn etc. will be exported and the poor in this world will starve to death, is that what we want.

Begging the question, what is your view of the most promising, more efficient and eco friendly alternatives----from the same perspective of practical, cost effective, and efficient, environmentally conservative parameters? Pros and cons of solar, wind, hydrogen, etc?
4tcinv 2 years ago

4TIMESAYEAR 1 year ago

So it would be the "denatured" element that is dangerous. That element is usually gasoline. Yes, gasoline will hurt the animals. So thanks for making the same point that we make, gasoline should be eliminated.

Water vapor, responsible for 95% of Earth's greenhouse effect, is 99.999% natural (some argue, 100%). Even if we wanted to we can do nothing to change this.
Anthropogenic (man-made) CO2 contributions cause only about 0.117% of Earth's greenhouse effect, (factoring in water vapor). This is insignificant!

jesusisalive2 3 years ago
Brazil has done it with sugarcane. Both sugarcane and hemp are viable sources, but corn is not. The reason we don't use sugarcane (or import the the fuel from Brazil) is because of old protection laws to help the sugar industry against imports. And that keeps sugar prices high in the US. This is also why the we use High Fructose Corn Syrup instead of sugar to sweeten many foods and drinks.

He's just another talking head spewing disinformation (clue #1-global public media). Corn for fuel is shit, it has no mass. Henry Ford used methanol from hemp to fuel his cars. Also Rudolph Diesel invented diesel fuel from cold pressed hemp seed oil.
IRulesMe 3 years ago
He says we need 99.5% or pure-er ethanol for running cars, which he says needs expensive equipment. But wasn't it Henry Ford whose model-T (the first mass produced car) was running on common ethanol? Have we forgotten that a 100 year old technology could already make cars run on common ethanol?
farmerjack777 3 years ago

You would not believe the volumes of C02 it churns out.
taofledermaus 3 years ago

Juliusno1776 3 years ago

This guy is an ass.
I have made my own ethanol and have run cars, trucks,Harleys, you name it on my fuel.
It will NOT mess up your car and it is very very easy to make if you use something better than corn.
This bookworm is welcome to come out from behind from his desk and come to my shop any time for an education, hands on,no more theory.

Your job, ASSHOLE is to keep the misinformed, misinformed
darkvader47 3 years ago
I remember the "corporations" doing a fine job. As I recall, the price of gas at the pump increased about 4 cents between 1961 and 1971, before the environmental extremist idiots like you shut down domestic oil production.... Al Gore can go to hell. DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW.
xuzbc 3 years ago

His job is secure as long as he continues to sing that song.
darkvader47 3 years ago

P.S. - The US government currently pays farmers to NOT grow crops on 40 million acres.
rrmoore1 3 years ago
ethanol will be the silver bullet to bring down gas prices soon we all be able to get ethanol and then big oil will have a competitor oil has never had to compete competition will drop those high gas prices like a box of hot rocks
lets face it america hates the oil companies

this vid was made in 2007. Ethonal form syngas was not well know then. Nor was any cellose ethonal plants where in production. I like syn gas method because there not need for emyamies also any type of biomass can be use like trash and agurature waste.

Why do all of these ethanol videos only talk about corn?
diablosrising 3 years ago
we can pay ourselves to grow, harvest and process corn, which is a clean burning fuel or we can pay our enemies to drill oil, refine, then ship half way across the world while ceos pocket MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of dollars annually. seems like a pretty easy answer to me. oh, and engines run fine on 180 proof ethanol. This guy is digging for excuses. He must be getting paid by someone.
houghtrain 3 years ago
Ethanol takes almost or more energy to make than you get out of it, depending on who you ask. Even if you take the best case scenario, that is a horribly inefficient use of resources. It causes food prices to rise, that is not even debatable, it's supply and demand, economics 101. It is bad for the environment, corn use is very hard on land, and uses more pesticides than most other crops. Also ethanol is not a good fuel, it is very corrosive and does not have the energy density of gasoline.
jackson32 3 years ago
Food prices have nothing to do with Ethanol. They eat more meat in India and China because of the growing wealth there thats why. The chinese wants to eat more like us in the west, thats why. Dont blame the ethanol. Only in the US they are using corn ethanol, the ethanol made from sugar cane are much better.
WinkelHoof 3 years ago
You are a disgusting fucking liar. It is very clear the ethanol scam is driving food price increases. The World Bank has a new report stating exactly that. Report is available from the Guardian. The only beneficiaries are monster Agribusiness like Arthur Daniels Midland, and that because of massive subsidies. It is time to pull the plug on this disasterous policy, now, before millions starve.
12stringsforme 3 years ago
So the starvation in the world was invented in 2007 because of the ethanol? lol! You belive the oil-companys propaganda to easy, you can not blame the ethanol for the starvation in the world its much more complicated then that.

The Indy circuit uses alcohol in all it's vehicles. What I love about people who think outside the box (unlike this puppet), they just run their vehicles, and burn it cleaner and prove it can be done. This IDIOT wouldn't have a job if he told the truth. Next he'll tell us that the reason we have pharmacies popping up on every corner in the USA is because we're so sick. It was experts that said man wasn't meant to fly but a couple of bicycle guys choose to JUST DO IT anyway!
darkvader47 3 years ago

IQ174 3 years ago
Are you aware of all the deadly chemicals in gasoline. When someone locks himself in a garage and turns on the car, it doesn't have the same effect as laughing gas!

The Real Story is this guy is an IDIOT!

YOU GET THE SAME GAS MILEAGE WHETHER YOU USE 9 GALLONS OF GAS PLUS AS MUCH ETHANOL AS YOU WANT OR IF YOU ONLY USE 9 GALLONS OF PLAIN GAS!
altry2 3 years ago
Ethanol will just relplace oil economically, companies will still use it to make money. The only difference, is that ethanol is cleaner. All you people saying that ethanol fuel will only be a dollar, that will never happen. Oil companies will never allow that. The only way to get true energy reform, such as hydrogen cars, solar, etc, would be to get rid of lobbying. And only elect congressmen that will do their job, and put an end ot lobbying. Get rid of lobbying, and you will see the change.
theawesomeone5 3 years ago
its all just about damn money. screw this fuck. hes prob just trying to get rich himself off of the opposite direction of biofuels.
braneden 3 years ago
people take your eyes off of corn ethanol it is cellulose ethanol which is promising especially since natural microbes can simplify the process into one step, not to mention it has a the potential to be produced at a cost of 1$ per gallon or less, so even though it is 30% less efficient the projected cost makes it worth it. Than of course hydrogen fuels will be able to convert this fuel at a much more efficient rate. It is only a matter of time.
jcw2131 3 years ago
ok so ethanol is a poor choice, then answer me how can it be that Brazil fuels 1/2 of its
modern cars on e100 using 2% of its' agricultural land. Now they have a surplus of ethanol and the U.S, guv't won't allow Brazil cars or ethanol into U.S. geez this guy could work for Hitler. what bs
luvhafiz 3 years ago
Because Brizil doesn't use corn to make their ethanol, they use Sugar Cane. Sugar cane yeilds more energy than corn does. Brizil also doesn't have a population of 300 million people. There is no way we can grow enough corn in the USA to solve our gas problems.
WYJT 3 years ago 2
Who says we have to grow corn? Its not the only ethanol producing crop out there.
chode12 3 years ago
The bottom line is that none of these crops can make it on the free market. If you page through old popular mechanics issues you will see hundreds of claims of things that are going to huge in future. 99% of them never panned out. Thinking that other kinds of biomass are the answer is for chumps who don't understand basic economics. Sugar cane is still subsidized in Brazil, just not as much as in the past. Food based ethanol is a scam perpetrated by special interests, it is a joke.
jackson32 3 years ago 3
I understand what your trying to say and I agree that we have to do something to get off oil. But the population of the USA is to big to grow our own fuel. We can grow some, but not enough to supply all our energy needs.
The U.S. Has a 200 year supply of coal and they can make coal into diesel fuel, so maybe we should look into that direction for now??
You also have to look at the cost of alternitive fuels. It it cost more that gas to produce, then that's not the answer. JT

Here's my assessment of you.
1. Your not a genuinely nasty person
2. You are a typical environmentalist, which means a sheep
3. Your probably young, and as such your more articulate than most people your age.
4. I may have been a little rude, but it was just in trying to tell you the truth, but you could not handle the heat, and that looks really bad.
5. You support Mike Gravel so you are against the war in Iraq, which is a big plus.
6. You are economically illiterate.
jackson32 3 years ago
One last thing. I went easy on you. I could have really laid into you with comments like "Your obviously an economic illiterate"
YOU'RE (as in YOU ARE the contraction not YOUR the possesive) OBVIOUSLY JUST PLAIN ILLITERATE.
But I refrained from doing so up until now. Though it pained me to do so.
damianpaonejazz 3 years ago
I'm sure your ignorant of the fact that the environmental movement has been funded from the very start, by the people you think your fighting against. The establishment. They call you people "useful idiots", very appropriate since 99% of environmentalists are completely unaware of this.
Who Owns the Environmentalist Movement?

These are New World Order organizations. They're happy with you guys. Congratulations.
jackson32 3 years ago
They are individual Co's that have brought us to a new level.
damianpaonejazz 3 years ago
THAT is what I am talking about. THAT IS THE REAL MOVEMENT TOWARD ENERGY INDEPENDENCE. AND THAT is what the issue really is. YOU WANT FREEDOM AND LIBERTY, YOU WANT INDEPENDENCE, IT DOESN'T GET MORE INDEPENDENT THAN THAT WHEN IT COMES TO ENERGY. Example: I paid 8K for a system of wind and solar that has taken me off of the grid and appears as though it will pay for itself in less than 2 years. My future father in law paid 10k adding a solar water heater as well which I also plan to do.
damianpaonejazz 3 years ago
After 2 years I'll actually be earning income as my meter often runs in reverse giving power back to the grid providing energy for people like you that still choose to be dependent to the very people you chastise for your energy needs. I plan on purchasing the less expensive Tesla which is scheduled to debut in 09 and be off of gas as well. So I plan on being fully independent by 2010. So when you say "Who Owns the Environmentalist Movement?" People like me own the environmentalist movement.
