Has anyone noticed that commercial channels are ruining the laughter in this comedy by editing out prolonged laughter so they can fit in more advertising time?
This looks like an original clip before the advertisers chopped it up!
@SteeveeStrange Yeh you can often tell when the laughter is real or fake by the actors reactions. If they're not even looking interrupted by the laughter and waiting to talk before the next punch line then you know it's not live or it has been edited.
I have the DVD collection, one of the best sitcoms ever made, beautifully written, hilarious performances, i watch them often to cheer myself up when life is getting me down.
WATCHING RISING DAMP GETS ME AND MY DAD TOGETHER, AND WE BOND ALOT, WATCHING THESE GREAT OLDIES :) THANKS SOOOO MUCH @RisingDampChamp !!!! I OWE YOU, BIG TIME!!! I WISH THERE WAS A DVD WE COULD BUY,, i cant find any,,, it would be a perfect gift for my dad:)
If you live in England like me then try going to hmv.co.uk and you can buy the entire series and the movie for like £13 i just checked. Might help :)
Superb. Len Rossiter was a genius. His supporting cast, especially Frances de la Tour, were brilliant. Thank you, RisingDampChamp for keeping the flame alive. Compared to this, todays brainless, vulgar comedies not so much pale, as shrivel, in comparison.
Excellent , You just cannot beat classic British comedy, porridge, steptoe, on the buses etc. Im sorry but the rubbish on today is nowhere near. Thanks for adding RisingDampChamp. Brilliant.
Let me just add my voice, as a 53 year old expatriate now living in New York, to those who have expressed gratitude that you were able to retain and post, these episodes.
im 15 and may sound sad but i think this is great, i love comedy; everybody hates chris, two and a half men etc etc. but this is fabulous, i have watched 4 episodes and the movie and thinks its fantastic, shame 2 of the cast has died, ='[
@ThunderboltzBS The writing in these old shows is just miles above most of what is out there today, with a very few exceptions. Beckinsale was a tragic loss to British TV...
I love this show so much! An amazing cast, although I'd like to state for the record that Richard Beckinsale's wig in the first series, was so much better and more realistic, than it was in series 2 and 3. :-)
I'd forgotten just how well written this was, it's hard to think that ITV made this.
It's amazing how standards have fallen on TV, I had never appreciated the sheer skill that was involved in this, what a shame they refuse to make anything good these days.
I love it too. Although I am 35, I am still too young to remember it originally but it is brilliant and Leonard Rossiter had brilliant delivery and comic timing.
yep you're right. I'm just grateful that we have these brilliant comedy programmes to watch still. My teenage kids also love Rising Damp, they were watching these with me on here and falling around laughing. Thanks for posting them.
No problem :) It's nice to know that youths of today can appreciate these types of things. That's how things like this survive by being passed down from generation to generation and it pretty much makes them immortal.
I loved this, it's still as funny as it was then..... they don't make them like this anymore, I think partly because the 'comedy stars' of today don't have the same comedy talent as people like Leonard Rossiter and Richard Beckinsale.
It's like trying to replicate the comedy likes of Laurel and Hardy in the modern day world, i've often thought how it'd be possible but it's almost, if not totaly, impossible.
The original play was The Banana Box by Eric Chappel - opened to terrible reviews, but played very well on TV. Not complainng but this video plays very sluggish or jerky.
I believe that there's somethingv in the actual episode where somebody says his name wrong or something. I know that there's something in the episode that kinda explains the title but i can't remember what it was lol.
It was filmed in Leeds, but I believe the show isn't actually set anywhere in particular, when it was a play the writer (Eric Chappell) wanted it to fit wherever it was performed. It is however set in a University town, and there are a few Yorkshire references made in the series,so possibly Leeds.
I think the film was set in London, certainly filmed there.
You are right in saying the place where it was set is never named. There is a mention of a train to Wolverhampton I think, or maybe a reference to Spooner wrestling there. Not sure now, haha.
thanks for uploading this video. I used to see it when I was a child, in Spain. Nevertheless, I'm not going to ask a Spanish translation. But I'd like to know where the sitcom takes place. London ,Newcastle, Liverpool...? I've noticed Rigsby pronounces fon (for fun)Thanks.
One of the best sitcoms of all time love by millions from whatever country, there was a good few RD videos on YT but they were removed, searching again i found these, thank you
haha... even this first 10 minutes is full of charm and wit, the script is hilarious and Rigsby just delivers everything which such classic greatness... it's deceptively simple but amazing at the same time.
Just found these. Thanks for uploading : ) Subbed
