  • Just found these. Thanks for uploading : ) Subbed

  • Fabulous series

  • Comment removed

  • Hopefully putting together a touring stage version of Rising Damp, in conjunction with Eric Chappel, the scripts are amazing

  • @DoubleAct1972 Awesome.. Wish i was in it lol.

  • Has anyone noticed that commercial channels are ruining the laughter in this comedy by editing out prolonged laughter so they can fit in more advertising time?

This looks like an original clip before the advertisers chopped it up!

  • @SteeveeStrange Yeh you can often tell when the laughter is real or fake by the actors reactions. If they're not even looking interrupted by the laughter and waiting to talk before the next punch line then you know it's not live or it has been edited.

  • Woah, the kid looks like Arlo Guthrie

  • Do you have Blott on the Landscape too? I am looking for that one too

  • @zoodensha No i've never heard of it, is it any good?

  • I have the DVD collection, one of the best sitcoms ever made, beautifully written, hilarious performances, i watch them often to cheer myself up when life is getting me down.

  • genius

  • pure genius god has taken these 2 talented men away from us

  • rising damp, only fools, steptoe, father ted are the best comedy shows ever made.

  • love this programme ya cant beat old comedy, comedy now is ok, but will never beat stuff like this

  • I think miss Jones has a great ass

  • I think Rossiter was of the best comedians ever, he timing was spot on.

    Thanks for sharing RDC :)

  • @Riptor717 rossiter was an actor who became well known for acting in sitcoms but he had a long career on TV stage and screen.

  • WATCHING RISING DAMP GETS ME AND MY DAD TOGETHER, AND WE BOND ALOT, WATCHING THESE GREAT OLDIES :) THANKS SOOOO MUCH @RisingDampChamp !!!! I OWE YOU, BIG TIME!!! I WISH THERE WAS A DVD WE COULD BUY,, i cant find any,,, it would be a perfect gift for my dad:)

  • @wig122 Glad you like it :)

If you live in England like me then try going to hmv.co.uk and you can buy the entire series and the movie for like £13 i just checked. Might help :)

  • Rising Damp

    Steptoe and Son

    Only fools and Horses

but Rigsby's the best character out of all of them

  • Absolute classic!

  • wot a classic!!!

  • £4 rent? How things have moved on lol!

  • The four main characters in this classic series worked so well together. Rigsby, Miss Jones, Philip and Alan were amazing!!

  • great to see rising damp on youtube. thankyou soooooo much. i really needed a good laugh. cheers mate, i'v subbed u

  • He calls him Rigsby. I thought it was Rooksby in the pilot?

One of the best sitcoms ever with a great supporting cast, even though it was ITV. ITV is and was rubbish. :)

  • Rigsby was pure class!

  • Superb. Len Rossiter was a genius. His supporting cast, especially Frances de la Tour, were brilliant. Thank you, RisingDampChamp for keeping the flame alive. Compared to this, todays brainless, vulgar comedies not so much pale, as shrivel, in comparison.

  • Excellent , You just cannot beat classic British comedy, porridge, steptoe, on the buses etc. Im sorry but the rubbish on today is nowhere near. Thanks for adding RisingDampChamp. Brilliant.

  • legendry stuff.

  • use to watch this in the UK when i was younger Great show glad too see it continues today on u tube comedy at its best!!!

  • cheers for these classic episodes, any chance of putting the rest on

  • well done risingdampchamp for posting these classic episodes,

any chance of putting a few more on.

  • Ahhh Leonard Rossiter. One of the great "Scouse" comedians!!

  • Im 4 and I think the show is wonderful.

  • im 16, and i think this show is brilliant

  • Same here. Brilliant show!

  • love this show!

  • thanks for uploading. love RD :]

  • Leonard Rossiter excudes greatness before he even speaks. From the shifty look in his eyes to the mealy mouth clamping on the cigarette...

  • Let me just add my voice, as a 53 year old expatriate now living in New York, to those who have expressed gratitude that you were able to retain and post, these episodes.

    Well done!

  • im 15 and may sound sad but i think this is great, i love comedy; everybody hates chris, two and a half men etc etc. but this is fabulous, i have watched 4 episodes and the movie and thinks its fantastic, shame 2 of the cast has died, ='[

  • It's not sad, man, nothing wrong with having a good taste in comedy no matter how old you are :)

  • hey I am 18 and it is not sad to love a great comdey like this you should be proud to have such great tast

  • @ThunderboltzBS Good for you dude Ive grow up with this and dads army now you try lookin for that one class

    peace ;~))

  • @ThunderboltzBS im 15 as well and i think that rising damp is great

  • @ThunderboltzBS you have good taste dude!. Such a tragedy that Richard Beckinsale passed away so young though

  • @ThunderboltzBS The writing in these old shows is just miles above most of what is out there today, with a very few exceptions. Beckinsale was a tragic loss to British TV...

  • I love this show so much! An amazing cast, although I'd like to state for the record that Richard Beckinsale's wig in the first series, was so much better and more realistic, than it was in series 2 and 3. :-)

  • I'd forgotten just how well written this was, it's hard to think that ITV made this.

It's amazing how standards have fallen on TV, I had never appreciated the sheer skill that was involved in this, what a shame they refuse to make anything good these days.

  • Thanks so much for uploading all the episodes! :)

    Cheers

  • it was my favorite comedy.. wish they were still alive.. time flies.. comedy is good for the soul, heart and mind...

  • i'm pretty sure miss jones and Philip are. and didn't alan's daughter kate grow up to be a beauty!

  • I love it too. Although I am 35, I am still too young to remember it originally but it is brilliant and Leonard Rossiter had brilliant delivery and comic timing.

  • I love this. It's old, my parent's love it, but I actually agree with them. Legendary series!

  • I like this stuff because no matter what your politics or religion or whatever we can all agree on something like this, we all laugh.

    Corny, but true.

  • 6 quid a week for rent!! LOL

  • best sitcom ever!! thanks for bringing this to you tube!!

  • great 70s fun

  • Can you post the episode called 'A Body Like Mine' in which Rigsby and Phillip have a boxing match

  • Very Fit man Lenord Rositer.

    RIP God bless you.

  • Thanks champ for posting these.Always miss parts of it on my tv, now i have all these!

  • yep you're right. I'm just grateful that we have these brilliant comedy programmes to watch still. My teenage kids also love Rising Damp, they were watching these with me on here and falling around laughing. Thanks for posting them.

  • No problem :) It's nice to know that youths of today can appreciate these types of things. That's how things like this survive by being passed down from generation to generation and it pretty much makes them immortal.

  • I loved this, it's still as funny as it was then..... they don't make them like this anymore, I think partly because the 'comedy stars' of today don't have the same comedy talent as people like Leonard Rossiter and Richard Beckinsale.

  • Yeh but times have changed to be honest.

It's like trying to replicate the comedy likes of Laurel and Hardy in the modern day world, i've often thought how it'd be possible but it's almost, if not totaly, impossible.

  • I wonder why it's not been shown in the U.S. Public Televesion airs old British comedies but I've never seen this one.

  • Actually beatlesguy, there was one cable channel that used to air it back in the early 1990s. That's how I came to love it. :-)

  • this was one of the best comedies on Brit tv.. shows ever !!! I loved this ..it cracks me uppp even now hahaha!!! thanx for posting ..lyndloo

  • NP and i agree :)

Nice to let this kinda stuff run on from generation to generation.

  • ar rigsby u thought any more about the room lol

  • Well since they've both been dead a long time i think Alan (Richard) is in a nicer warmer room now :)

  • I wish there was comedy like this being made today, most of it is embarressing when you compare to shows like rising damp.

    my favourite series is 2.

  • ...This means nothing to me. Oh, Vienna lol

  • The best brit comedy ever,bar none.A+

  • this and Mind Your Language - total class!! why don't they make em like this anymore?

  • The original play was The Banana Box by Eric Chappel - opened to terrible reviews, but played very well on TV. Not complainng but this video plays very sluggish or jerky.

    Great show.

  • NASTY NASTY NASTY

  • I realise Rigsby's name in the play was Rooksby, but it seems a stramge title for a 1st episode.

  • Yes but that is the true name of the first episode lol. I have them all on DVD and that is the title =-P

  • Still, it seems an odd title.

  • I believe that there's somethingv in the actual episode where somebody says his name wrong or something. I know that there's something in the episode that kinda explains the title but i can't remember what it was lol.

  • @RisingDampChamp T'was 'Ragsby'

  • Damn i accidentally removed instead of replied grrrr!

    "i did'nt like the first series. "

I say fair enough you're entitled to your own oppinion :)

  • Thnak you sooo much for putting these up! ITV3dosent show them that much anymore :(

    R.I.P. Richard Beckinsale

  • I love the theme tune!

  • Love this show!

  • Yeh sadly i need to find my season 3 again but i have season 4 so i guess i can upload that whilst i wait lol.

  • It was filmed in Leeds, but I believe the show isn't actually set anywhere in particular, when it was a play the writer (Eric Chappell) wanted it to fit wherever it was performed. It is however set in a University town, and there are a few Yorkshire references made in the series,so possibly Leeds.

I think the film was set in London, certainly filmed there.

  • You are right in saying the place where it was set is never named. There is a mention of a train to Wolverhampton I think, or maybe a reference to Spooner wrestling there. Not sure now, haha.

  • I believe it takes place in London =-)

  • thanks for uploading this video. I used to see it when I was a child, in Spain. Nevertheless, I'm not going to ask a Spanish translation. But I'd like to know where the sitcom takes place. London ,Newcastle, Liverpool...? I've noticed Rigsby pronounces fon (for fun)Thanks.

  • One of the best sitcoms of all time love by millions from whatever country, there was a good few RD videos on YT but they were removed, searching again i found these, thank you

  • haha... even this first 10 minutes is full of charm and wit, the script is hilarious and Rigsby just delivers everything which such classic greatness... it's deceptively simple but amazing at the same time.

  • One of the all time great comedies! Magic!

  • Different version of the theme tune on this the pilot, slower, and sounding a bit like "Old Ned" the Steptoe theme.

  • Thank you for uploading these videos, RisingDampChamp.

I used to watch this sitcom when I was a teenager, and I was fascinated by the face of Richard Beckinsale. However, today, I think he was handsome.

  • He's part Asian. And so is his daughter Kate

  • nice one rising damp champ brilliant comedy m8!!!

  • Iz koo' B-)

    Lol

  • Thank you rising damp champ!
