I lent a friend my motorcycle and the next time I rode it it completely ceased, that's because my friend cracked the case and oil slowly leaked out of it (while riding it was peeing the oil out) and I didn't know until it was too late. The valves starved and completely locked the whole engine up.
If an engine has an oil pump failure on the road would it do any good to over fill the crankcase with oil to provide some splash lube for rods and crank just to get home? It would seem that over filling the crankcase would also get oil up into the cam and lifters/valves and rockers and keep them alive for a while. The Model T's were splash oiled.
@Nivicoman Lots of newer engines cannot run off of zero oil pressure. They have things such as hydraulic cam phasers or hudraulic lifters and the like. Overhead cam and overhead valve designs also need a constant supply of oil.
The older engines were splash oiled because they are a flathead design - there was nothing to lubricate in the upper engine. The only parts that weren't already submerged in oil was the piston rings and piston wrist pin.
i hate people that blow engines up on purpose if it has a knock take it apart and rebuild it instead of totally destroying it that must be what seperates us real gear heads from morons that like to destroy things
You seized the motor. It didnt blow up. Next time, if you wanna blow a motor up, put a brick on the accelerator and let it just sit there revving its guts out. That will blow it up.
That was intelligent. Next time, don't bother draining the "all" or frying the "tars", just go up to maximum speed in top gear, and slip it into "1" or "R".
@The1320Addiction bubba john done did said...jk, john said no oil pressure and no water in the radiator. he said hes got 1, 2, or 4 "cylinders knocking" he means rods knocking.
@lamdasond 350's always throw rods in the downward direction....idk why, but ive never seen a rod get thrown up, always down. ive seen a 454 that threw a wrist pin(yep) and it went down too
@1972fordf150 Chevrolet produced a special 302 cu in (4.9 L) engine for Trans Am racing from 1967-1969. It was the product of placing the 3-inch stroke crankshaft into a 4-inch bore block. Conservatively rated at 290 hp (216 kW), actual output was around 412 hp (307 kW) moral of this lesson , your an idiot
@N20zuki yea but you can still fit vortec heads on it and high output 1.94 valve anything with a good cam and high rocker ratio it only made 20 percent less power in same form tpi 305 made 230hp the 350 made 240hp the tbi 350 made 200hp and the tbi 305 made 170hp for same model years not a huge different and most parts work on 305 that fit a 350
I absoultely hate people like you, whether it knocked or whatever someone woulda gave you 150 bucks or so for it. and some wonder why rev limiters were invented, people like you.
Im a Slant Six man. Not a lot of power, but damn reliable and virtually indestructable. All of the older engines made way back when are better than the plastic covered, recycled Bud can motors we get today. Overheat just once and they're done for. Why not blow up some modern engines instead of irreplceable motors that are no longer in production. At least if your 350 in this vid is blown, it still is good lookin' Rebuild it and it will go another 300k.
that motor didn't sound like it blew up.... sounded more like it ran outta gas, usually when a motor goes boom, thay stop instently, this motor slowly stoped, didn't seeze.
ive seen a ford with a whole in the block the size of my fist and it still ran i seen about 10 chevys blow motors and my f 150 had 410,000 miles on its 302 and still ran perfect now with my new motor i am making 875 rwhp so ford all the f in way
@TheDubeo wow,i bet even with a wicked bad knock they would still last a while in a vehicle with oil and water.cause my dad beat the shit out of the 350 in his sierra,he loves the truck, but he used to run it hard, redline almost every day,rev it in neutral all the time, and bury the speedo once a week, almost 190k miles and it still runs like a champ.he broke the tranny though lol... SBCs are probably one of,if not the toughest engines built.
LOL a 302 beating a 350? are you fucking nuts? back when my Iroc had the 305 in it, it ran circles around my old man's 302, BONE STOCK. and with the 350? HA, not even a chance in hell! Ford vehicles are good for 2 things and 2 things only, work trucks that you can beat up on and not give a shit about, and irresponsible high school kids whose parents dont want them smashing up a good GM
Get a 302? Are you a little slow? Do you realize 350's commonly make over 1,000 horsepower on pump gas? Look at Edmunds best engines list, you'll see Chevy small block, then the LS/LS7 series. Yet the only Ford on the list is a flathead V8, due to it's cheap prices decades ago. So if 350's suck balls, why aren't 302's on a list of best engines of all time?
How immature. That seriously made me laugh, the same 5.4 from a Lincoln Navigator beating a ZO6? Omg, lol. Dude, you're seriously slow. The GT needs a supercharger just to keep up with a ZO6 kid. Have fun pretending that Ford 302 is better than a 350 when it can't even make the Edmund's top 10 engine list. Jesus christ man, what giggle this gave me.
the 302 was the biggest piece of shit ever!! we have an 88 f250 that had one in it, at 20,000 miles it needed new mains, at 60 the damn thing blew up for good, yeah it is a real good engine, that really made me laugh!!
i dont think chevy makes a 302.. ford does. and i think amc did too about 1969? but chevy does have a 304 or a 305 if thats what you meant. and a 5.9 from dodge is a very good, hi compression 361 c.i powerhouse.
but its all about fords 390 F.e. i get 17 mpg from my truck with the 390 and i can lay some good rubber too at about 322 hp and 356 ft/lbs
Chevy made the 302 first back in the 60's ford had a 283 or something, but kept getting smoked by Chevy in the Trans Am races, so, Ford sat down, took some of Chevy's proformence parts, and made a 302 of there own.... this made them start winning Trans am Races, Chevy answered and made a 305 to replace there 302. there ya go, a little of actual amarican history, go look it up, if you don't beleave me. the 302 was in the 1st gen Camaro's it's there original motor.
The 302 SBC was a special performance engine for the Z28 in '67 through '69. Common SBCs were 265,283,307,327,350,400. The 305 was brought out as a smaller V8 during the oil embargo days of the '70s.
Ford had the 260 > 289 > 302
AMC had a 289 as well, but it went to 304. AMC engines were the toughest of the bunch!!! Way overbuilt.
i heard all amc engines are the same block....but the block was made so strong with so much material that they decided to use the same block in larger cui models....not a fact just what i heard
Same with Buick, Olds, Pontiac, etc. Not all the engines are the same, but many share the same outside dimensions and design, but vary in cubic inches. Not all company's had big & small blocks.
Indeed! As example, you could have an Olds 260 setting next to an Olds 455, and telling them apart is far from obvious despite the 455 being twice the displacement. Ditto for Pontiac engines. Sad, now we just have generic engines that propel generic cars :(
Amen to that... I have a 70 Challenger R/T with a monster 440 Six Pack. I love that Olds 455 too..Along with all of the legacy engines and cars...I also have a 65 Chevy C20 with a great running 350
Ford simply stroked the 289 to come up with the 302. Looking at the 302 and 289, you cannot tell the difference. The ford 302 has nothing to do with chevrolet. Then ford built the tunnel-port 302, and later the real boss 302 (canted valve heads) which none of the above was anything like chevrolet. The chevy 305 had identical cranks to the 350 (3.48 stroke) just a smaller bore. Nearly all 67-80 chevy small blocks (except the 400 sb) had the same 5.7 rods. There's some real schooling for you
@CountyBoyz4Life These guys are all correct about the SBC's the only huge difference between the 265, 283, 302, 307, 327 and the 305 350 400's other than the bore and stroke was the crank journal sizes. The first 5 were small journal cranks, the latter were large journal. The 400 had Siamese holes drilled in the block for extra cooling between the combustion chambers. The SBC basically remained the same until the TBI and TPI systems were installed onto them.
@gearhead847 one of the baddest small blocks chevy produced. they only made it a few years, i believe it was only installed in the 1st generation camaros. I've heard stories of people taking the stock Chevy 302, putting slicks on them, and having plenty of torque to jump the front wheels off the ground.
@KoDBeast i looked it up and it was only put in first gen Z28s rated at 290 hp but actual output was around 412 hp. it sounds pretty freakin sweet for a chevy small block
@oriclepro09 the 70s camaro was a 302 it had a shortent stroke of 350 the top models always had the 350 and corvette had the highest model 350 with dual carbs and stuff
@bhennessee01 omfg are you serious? you need to do some research pal. Chevy does make a 302, and they are one of the most badass motors made. smoke any P.O.S ford for sure. GO CHEVY!
@wildwest350 302 came in the 69 Z-28 Camaro's they were hi performance engines and with little to nothing just screw driver adjustments they can put out 400-450hp but i do belive that was the only year they used it
@1972FordF150 4.9Let see now the Ford 302 has a bore of 4.004 and stroke of 3.0028 which brings it to a total of 4956.73 cc or 302ci as well as the chev bore of 4’ and 3’ stroke 4942.22cc wait once again 302 to bad people shoot their mouths off instead of doing a little research
@wildwest350 in what fuckin world are u living? ur retarded if u think that.. 302 is the biggest heap of junk to ever be produced by any manufacturer ever. chev sucks and so does this vid. 2 thumbs way the fuck down
the zo6's engine is almost 100 more cubic inches bigger, no fucking wonder it puts out more HP than the 5.4, look at my video of the 4 door f150 vs zo6 corvette. And the 302 is a WAY better motor than the PIECE OF SHIT 350! my 1971 f100 with a 302 outruns my friends 1969 el camino with a 350 all the time.
Like I said, the facts speak for them selves. If the 302 is a way better engine, and the 350 is shit, why are essentially all modern Chevy small blocks included on several best engines list, yet the 302 is NOT. Just because one 302 outruns a 350 doesn't prove anything, you're going completely against factual scientific experimenting procedures with that one buddy, with equals no sense. Then again you're a teenager with a non-posi, two bit farm truck that can't get out of it's own way.
I really don't know or care what some engine list says. I know for a fact the 302 is a better engine. i dont rely on other fony sources i found on some website for information. All of my friends with 350's in their trucks either have seized or have as much power as a 3 cylinder geo. Oh and that "non-posi, two bit farm truck that can't get out of it's own way" had been sitting for 10 years and cranked up and ran fine with no problems, i know also know for a fact it now outruns my buddies IROC.
Obviously that list proves something, millions of GM 5.7's have been used over the years, and last hundreds of thousands of miles. I don't care if it outruns your buddie's IROC, that's all bs to me until I see the video, or pink slip. A LOT of the Iroc's came with underpowered 305's due to basically the tail end of the time of horrible gas prices, and still trying to market it with displacement. You have your own non factual, half wit opinion, I have mine backed with facts. End it at that.
Millions of 302's have been used also. My uncles f150 with the 302 has 307,000+ miles on it and still runs strong, all he has done is changed filters and spark plugs. And the IROC has a 350 in it, matching vin # and block numbers to prove it, and its not stock...at all.
I dont care if you believe me or not, i know its true, chevy isn't shit., most dont last past 200,000 miles, or pull worth a shit.
If Chevy isn't shit, why are 1,000+ horsepower Corvettes becoming common? Yet 800 horsepower is pushing it even for a Mustang with a top of the line $10,000+ Hellion turbo system. You expect me to believe the Ford 302 is superior to all Chevy engines because you "know" it's true? Come on kid, you're like what 16, 17? You did a little one wheel burnout in an old truck, now all of a sudden Chevy is shit. You really can't go against what facts say, and they say Chevy small blocks are better.
It sounded like a diesel because the rod was knocking maybe a pin or a big end pull the cunt apart and fix it

because
1- 302 rev higher by the nature of their enginering ( bore>stroke)
2- all you need to make power is Hi comp pistons, cleveland heads, and a hi-lift cam.
3- I have my own opinions and am not a sheep following what other people say or think.
4- I am sure Ford's V8 5.4 DOHC from the GT will beat the crap off the LS7.
5- and Ford>chevy>dodge
6-and finally being a fierce Ford fan i tell you with respect to kiss my ass if you don't agree with the facts stated above.
Thanks for reading

How immature. That seriously made me laugh, the same 5.4 from a Lincoln Navigator beating a ZO6? Omg, lol. Dude, you're seriously slow. The GT needs a supercharger just to keep up with a ZO6 kid. Have fun pretending that Ford 302 is better than a 350 when it can't even make the Edmund's top 10 engine list. Jesus christ man, what giggle this gave me.
kcole939 2 years ago
the 302 was the biggest piece of shit ever!! we have an 88 f250 that had one in it, at 20,000 miles it needed new mains, at 60 the damn thing blew up for good, yeah it is a real good engine, that really made me laugh!!
buckslayer3736 2 years ago
I have a feeling you sent that reply to the wrong person buckslayer3736, I wasn't attempting to stick up for the 302, or Ford in general.
kcole939 2 years ago
i was agreeing with you!!!
buckslayer3736 2 years ago
and you obviously have down syndrom.
the 302 was and still is one of the best motors ever made. Fuck chevy and all gmc products.

buckslayer3736 2 years ago
theres one in my truck and it out runs any POS 350.
AJahtp 2 years ago
i bet it does, let's see it go up against a dodge 5.9 magnum
buckslayer3736 2 years ago
a chevy 302 would tear up a dodge 5.9
wildwest350 2 years ago 16
i was talking about a 302 ford motor, not chevy, and no it wouldn't, the magnum is a lot better engine
buckslayer3736 2 years ago
i dont think chevy makes a 302.. ford does. and i think amc did too about 1969? but chevy does have a 304 or a 305 if thats what you meant. and a 5.9 from dodge is a very good, hi compression 361 c.i powerhouse.
but its all about fords 390 F.e. i get 17 mpg from my truck with the 390 and i can lay some good rubber too at about 322 hp and 356 ft/lbs
SkylerB 2 years ago
chevy made a 302 for a couple years in the late 60s in the camaros
wildwest350 2 years ago
chev made a 302 as well
lopez20111 2 years ago
Chevy made the 302 first back in the 60's ford had a 283 or something, but kept getting smoked by Chevy in the Trans Am races, so, Ford sat down, took some of Chevy's proformence parts, and made a 302 of there own.... this made them start winning Trans am Races, Chevy answered and made a 305 to replace there 302. there ya go, a little of actual amarican history, go look it up, if you don't beleave me. the 302 was in the 1st gen Camaro's it's there original motor.
CountyBoyz4Life 2 years ago
The 302 SBC was a special performance engine for the Z28 in '67 through '69. Common SBCs were 265,283,307,327,350,400. The 305 was brought out as a smaller V8 during the oil embargo days of the '70s.
Ford had the 260 > 289 > 302
AMC had a 289 as well, but it went to 304. AMC engines were the toughest of the bunch!!! Way overbuilt.
thekidrocks72 2 years ago
i heard all amc engines are the same block....but the block was made so strong with so much material that they decided to use the same block in larger cui models....not a fact just what i heard
bentboybbz 2 years ago
Same with Buick, Olds, Pontiac, etc. Not all the engines are the same, but many share the same outside dimensions and design, but vary in cubic inches. Not all company's had big & small blocks.
FuelInjectionSucks 2 years ago
Indeed! As example, you could have an Olds 260 setting next to an Olds 455, and telling them apart is far from obvious despite the 455 being twice the displacement. Ditto for Pontiac engines. Sad, now we just have generic engines that propel generic cars :(
thekidrocks72 2 years ago
Amen to that... I have a 70 Challenger R/T with a monster 440 Six Pack. I love that Olds 455 too..Along with all of the legacy engines and cars...I also have a 65 Chevy C20 with a great running 350
scott93257 2 years ago
Ford simply stroked the 289 to come up with the 302. Looking at the 302 and 289, you cannot tell the difference. The ford 302 has nothing to do with chevrolet. Then ford built the tunnel-port 302, and later the real boss 302 (canted valve heads) which none of the above was anything like chevrolet. The chevy 305 had identical cranks to the 350 (3.48 stroke) just a smaller bore. Nearly all 67-80 chevy small blocks (except the 400 sb) had the same 5.7 rods. There's some real schooling for you
harlon2u 2 years ago
@CountyBoyz4Life These guys are all correct about the SBC's the only huge difference between the 265, 283, 302, 307, 327 and the 305 350 400's other than the bore and stroke was the crank journal sizes. The first 5 were small journal cranks, the latter were large journal. The 400 had Siamese holes drilled in the block for extra cooling between the combustion chambers. The SBC basically remained the same until the TBI and TPI systems were installed onto them.
broughy84 2 years ago
actually ford had a 302 also at the time but it kept explodin bottom ends all over the track...lol
bentboybbz 2 years ago
This info is way fucking wrong. Ford had a 283 or something? Shows how much you know.
82Hellbilly 2 years ago
289 Actually...Chevy had a 283

Yeah, Look a little closer at my post scott! It`s in the wrong place, it`s meant to be a reply.

Ooops my bad...sorry about that

@wildwest350 what hell is a chevy 302?
gearhead847 1 year ago
@gearhead847 one of the baddest small blocks chevy produced. they only made it a few years, i believe it was only installed in the 1st generation camaros. I've heard stories of people taking the stock Chevy 302, putting slicks on them, and having plenty of torque to jump the front wheels off the ground.
KoDBeast 1 year ago
@KoDBeast i looked it up and it was only put in first gen Z28s rated at 290 hp but actual output was around 412 hp. it sounds pretty freakin sweet for a chevy small block

@wildwest350 question i have a chevy camaro 305..why is a 302 much faster?

@artsacc It's Chevrolet 301 dumbshit. 302 is Ford.
1972FordF150 1 year ago
@1972FordF150 4.9Let see now the Ford 302 has a bore of 4.004 and stroke of 3.0028 which brings it to a total of 4956.73 cc or 302ci as well as the chev bore of 4’ and 3’ stroke 4942.22cc wait once again 302 to bad people shoot their mouths off instead of doing a little research

82Hellbilly 2 years ago
the zo6's engine is almost 100 more cubic inches bigger, no fucking wonder it puts out more HP than the 5.4, look at my video of the 4 door f150 vs zo6 corvette. And the 302 is a WAY better motor than the PIECE OF SHIT 350! my 1971 f100 with a 302 outruns my friends 1969 el camino with a 350 all the time.
AJahtp 2 years ago
Like I said, the facts speak for them selves. If the 302 is a way better engine, and the 350 is shit, why are essentially all modern Chevy small blocks included on several best engines list, yet the 302 is NOT. Just because one 302 outruns a 350 doesn't prove anything, you're going completely against factual scientific experimenting procedures with that one buddy, with equals no sense. Then again you're a teenager with a non-posi, two bit farm truck that can't get out of it's own way.
kcole939 2 years ago
I really don't know or care what some engine list says. I know for a fact the 302 is a better engine. i dont rely on other fony sources i found on some website for information. All of my friends with 350's in their trucks either have seized or have as much power as a 3 cylinder geo. Oh and that "non-posi, two bit farm truck that can't get out of it's own way" had been sitting for 10 years and cranked up and ran fine with no problems, i know also know for a fact it now outruns my buddies IROC.
AJahtp 2 years ago
Obviously that list proves something, millions of GM 5.7's have been used over the years, and last hundreds of thousands of miles. I don't care if it outruns your buddie's IROC, that's all bs to me until I see the video, or pink slip. A LOT of the Iroc's came with underpowered 305's due to basically the tail end of the time of horrible gas prices, and still trying to market it with displacement. You have your own non factual, half wit opinion, I have mine backed with facts. End it at that.
kcole939 2 years ago
Millions of 302's have been used also. My uncles f150 with the 302 has 307,000+ miles on it and still runs strong, all he has done is changed filters and spark plugs. And the IROC has a 350 in it, matching vin # and block numbers to prove it, and its not stock...at all.
I dont care if you believe me or not, i know its true, chevy isn't shit., most dont last past 200,000 miles, or pull worth a shit.
AJahtp 2 years ago
If Chevy isn't shit, why are 1,000+ horsepower Corvettes becoming common? Yet 800 horsepower is pushing it even for a Mustang with a top of the line $10,000+ Hellion turbo system. You expect me to believe the Ford 302 is superior to all Chevy engines because you "know" it's true? Come on kid, you're like what 16, 17? You did a little one wheel burnout in an old truck, now all of a sudden Chevy is shit. You really can't go against what facts say, and they say Chevy small blocks are better.
