Reagan was for less Govt and a reduction in govt spending. This is how you avoid defaulting on the debt. Not by growing Govt out of control then raising the debt ceiling to satisfy its insatiable appetite for spending ! He fought these bills and shut the govt down a couple of times, but ultimately he lost those battles.

He had already cut spending to a record degree to lessen the impact but Democrats refused to than raise the debt ceiling to avoid the default. Obama still refuses to cut spending FIRST. Reagan was for less Govt and a reduction in govt spending. This is how you avoid defaulting on the debt. Not by growing Govt out of control then raising the debt ceiling to satisfy its insatiable appetite for spending ! For those who say spending increased under Reagan lets remember he had a Democrat controlled congress which sent him record spending bills. He fought these bills and shut the govt down a couple of times, but ultimately he lost those battles.

The reality is that poor economic choices by both the republicans and the democrats over many decades has created this slippery slope that we are now sliding down. The country is broke, and not until we make drastic cuts will we be on stable ground again. The wars need to end, the military must be drastically cut, and numerous socialist programs at home must be scaled back.

He had already cut spending to a record degree to lessen the impact but Democrats refused to than raise the debt ceiling to avoid the default. Obama still refuses to cut spending FIRST. You cant just raise the debt ceiling every time a president spends their way into debt without cutting off that spending first. It makes the currency worthless.
