Glen Jacobs (Kane), only kept the hair because the Kane character was successful, but eventually wanted to unmask Kane so he (Glen Jacobs), could show more emotion with the Kane gimmick, and also so he could breathe better (the mask was skin-tight, and when you mix body heat and sweat, it's like a furnace on your face.) McMahon thought unmasking was a good idea, and Glen cut the hair and made it into a wig (the one that came off).
