heyy sorry to ask soo many questions i looked into my dads malawi tank and i tihnk i have some fish with eather eggs or just hatched fry beacuse her lower gill has come out have turned a bit black. the same night i saw some males have he same thing what could this be? Owen
Owen,,,,,Hey you, answer to 1= is they can start young, but usally only carry fry all the way when about 2-3 inches long, but bigger is more expirence in the malawi world, mine were about 2-3 years old.
2 = the female starts to make the eggs when she likes a male, then when she is ready to lay, the male will respond with fertalizing the eggs.
3 = they will fertalize eggs anywhere, but the corner of a tank where there is a small stoney area seems to be a good place.
Hi Owen, only the females carry the eggs/fry, and yes may look black/grey as fry may be black or dark, or you are seeing the frys eyes... but think you best take photo of a black lower jawed male to a aquatic shop to check it out!!!!
sooo nice
