  • Eh.. I like the DS version better, more fluid, and for me more beautiful to watch.

  • @Zungle

I suppose that version would be fine too, if it had the orchestral soundtrack.

Midi style works of course, but the orchestral music is just too awesome to miss.

  • I dont think it looks bad or anything, but it surely does when compared to Dragon Quest VIII :(

  • @mirrorpiece I really liked the simplified look. It fits the franchise. Also there's some later scenes in the game that look fantastic.

  • They actually remade this game in full 3D? I only beat this on DS, good story.

  • can i run this game on :

    pentium e5300 2.60ghz

    896 physical memory

    nvidia geforce 7050/ 620i intergrated 128mb dedicated

well ,,,with this shit pc......i could run a SVR 2011 40-50fps...Harvest Moon Save The HOmeland Full sPEEd...HCTP 45-55fps....

  • @TheCrazygamer81 Part 5 should run full speed if you keep the resolution low. DQ8 won't run well.

  • @ramapcsx2 yea, I think you need at least 3.00 GHz speed to run at reasonable rates, preferably 3.2, 3.5-4.0 GHz should have it run at full fps

  • Thanks for posting this in HD quality to give me an idea of how this looked in PCSX. As a result I bought this game and applied the translation. I have not been disappointed. I can't understand why Square Enix would go handheld only with these remakes when this version looks (and sounds) so darned beautiful.

  • @excrono Yea, sadly the people at SE that decide these things have lost contact with the fans. I don't expect them to ever recover either :/

  • i beat the ds version, i would much rather have played this version too bad it didnt get ported, i have a modded ps2 so if you can send me a link to the translated iso it would be greatly appreciated

  • the animations are extra smooth for a 2004 game, hard to believe in my eyes

  • Nice one,Subscribed. Please keep it up.

  • I'm using an i5-450M with Intel GMA graphics & it's just AVERAGE :( with the same ver of PCSX2 you're running. Wish I could tweak it out some more.

  • @IloveYouCalifornia The problem is the onboard GPU. It's too slow for any kind of gaming. PCSX2 is no exception.

You could try it with software rendering though.

  • i just played the first 30 minutes on pcsx2 and probably the only ps2 game i can run at full speed

use the latest pcsx2 0.9.7 r3878 all default options

    my hardware

    core2duo 2.66ghz

    2gigs ram

    windows xp

    9800gtx

  • @blindedby2monkeys: Nah, your hardware can play lots of games just fine. I suppose so far you've only tested the slow ones :p

  • I'm so getting this and burning that english patch! Love Dragon Quest!

  • its funny after playing dragon warrior 7 on the epsxe, it doesnt even play as smooth as this, and that was psx and this is ps2. i think its just a bit funny that the newer more advanced dragon quest plays better than the old one

  • game stops at the beging after the boat when you get the map for me.

  • @rubbe : Make sure to use PCSX 0.9.7 and the new plugin pack.

Then start a new game and listen to the music.

There should be music in the new game screen.

If it's silent, restart emulation (It happens randomly).

The game will work after that.

  • this would look great if it was on the psp. damn shame

  • I have a few questions: 1) What's the best PS2 emulator to use for this? 2) Where can I find the DQV rom + translation? 3) Is it possible to burn the translated rom to a disk that will play on my own PS2? I've been a longtime fan of Dragon Quest and I own pretty much every US release, so it goes without saying that I'd love to try this out as well! Please PM me if you can help, thanks :)

  • @phubans :

-Currently only one PS2 emulator that runs this exists, PCSX2.

-PlayAsia has the game for $35. Translation patch is in the video description.

-You can burn the patched game on a disk and play on your PS2. That was the intended way even :p

  • Please make an LP of this gameXD

  • does the patch download to your ps2, or do you have to play it on pc.

  • What kind of power does your computer have to be packing to run this nicely?

  • @InfernalApocalypse This game runs very fast, there are no slowdown scenes or anything.

I guess a dual core Athlon X2 4800+ may be enough already. PentiumD 3.0Ghz for Intel.

So yea, anything not too bad from 2007 and up should give you full speed.

  • Looks awesome on the Ps2. =) I loved Dragon Quest V.

  • What pc do you have and what emulator config are you using? I have P4 3ghz, 1 gb ram, nvidia 7800gs 256 mb and the games look awful and play even more awful, I followed the official configuration guide...

  • Oh my, this game looks absolutely beautiful on emulator. It wasn't bad on my PS2, but this really puts it to shame!

  • This is dragon quest V done right! I only wish that VI recieved a similar "treatment." Anyway, I am happy that the translation is complete. Now I can finally enjoy this classic and timeless version, in english. I thank the individuals responsible for this project. :)

  • Wow the translation group did a really good job! I heard the head guy was a nice looking chap too! ^-^

  • @dq5r

I heard the head guy eats Brownies for breakfast, and I'm not talking about the kind you usually put in the oven.
