the authors of the Torah, Old and New Testament, Qu'ran knew that no one wishes to be a slave. yet the sriptures are full of endorsements of slavery.
if it wasn't for the Industrial revolution. Afro americans would still be picking cotton. with the full endorsement of the church. (sharecropping was also slavery).
If only we had more people like James; willing to be the intermediate in the mist of darkness and conflicts within social justice system. His words open hearts, raises hope for a chance for possible solutions within in clear passionate discernment; He inspires progress vs indifference and ego centralism. "James" could bring light to any conflict.
(If their was a roster for that job. I would t love to make that list!)
This man has made me remember why i was proud to be black, and even beyond the superficiality of my race and culture he made me remember that i am proud to be a human being ultimately. What passion and conviction. Everything is still poignant and relevant to the day. where is the black intelligencia today? i hear brilliant talks from many a dissident taking a stand against what's going on in the world, but my people seem to be only concerned with their hip hop etc.
It is an odd dichotomy when you consider we've lost a great exploration of our souls by the black American losing the cohesion of an oppressed minority
Thank You!!!The best talk I have ever seen. If you are brave, intelligent but more importantly patient you will understand the nature of the distance created through Liberty. We do not see or understand freedom in the way of the Eurocentric world. It is just a fact. Understanding the point in the above peace takes clarity.
@britneyslut why? because james baldwin was talking only about black people? because he is not talking about a nations worth of people held under the whip by the few? because you just so assume that no white people are poor? or because you wrote this comment thinking james baldwins words only appeal to the black and not the white who are both poor?
It's something about his truth that resonates with everyone, it doesn't offend white people and it doesn't attack any particular groups...it is his method of communication that has made both white and black respect him. Perhaps we should dig deep into how we communicate with each other---only then, will we come even close to finding answers or resolutions to lingering 20th and 21st century issues. This is a beautiful man!
@wbrutus22 This 'something' about his truth is easy to identify. He was never about retribution, revenge, or hatred. Baldwin believed in love, forgiveness, and healing. If you read his writings you will find he places great emphasis on love and understanding. I want to own everything ever written my this extraordinary man of intellect and, above all, love!
@DaHonestAbe Its because most people are too busy watching the result show on "Dancing with the Stars". Just thank God that you are not of those people. It's very very pathetic
Dear watchers of this video: please heed the words of this prophet!!!!!! This is as true in the late 20th century (1960s) as it is today in the beginning of the 21st century (2010).

everything he said then can be said now. it speaks to the profundity of his insight while sadly spotlighting a nagging deficiency in human relations.
