  • @monokhem This is kinda irrelevant but thy didn't check Oscars fingerprints because he kept burning his hands trying to save Buster when he forgot about his fake hand... More complex than you thought

  • I understand the idiot demographic thing but I get every one of the jokes and I'm only 14 my dad called it AD stupid when I was watching it on Netflix and I almost told him that it was him that was stupid, not AD

  • "dumbed**" not "dimness" don't know how auto-correct Effed that one up?

  • When it comes to shows like AD and Community it's probably marketing being the main culprit, but also I think a lot of the jokes go over ppl's heads. Let's face it, we're a dimness down society that's easily entertained by fart jokes and reality shows :( Anybody notice, there's been 3 Jackass movies? That's what we're up against. By us I mean ppl that aren't fkng complete morons btw

  • @laz2thedouble Two words: idiot demographic.

  • @laz2thedouble Well said. The amount of mindless trash on TV and in the movies these days is saddening. :(

  • Arrested Developement was cancel due to a discrephincy between the network FOX and the group known as Arrested Developement

  • @TheDebaser14 The guy in the $5000 suit?

  • @MrWivyx COME ON!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Same kind of marketing Community is getting now, is what Arrested got.....

    :(

  • I think it was the same marketing team for the new Knight Rider XD

  • Always reminds me of Futurama.

Prof Fransworth: Good news, everyone! Those asinine morons at Fox who cancelled us were fired for incompetence!

  • Comment removed

  • Who would've imagined; two actors in one family. We're like the Luntz!

By the way, I find it hilarious David Cross does this rant in his Ms. Featherbottom attire.

  • @gobias3 Yes..his costume just added why the show was funny.

  • @MrticTac921 I would say the costume was the smallest contributor to making the show funny.

  • who was he talking to? cuz I just got a whole lot more respect for David Cross

  • Comment removed

  • @Skullman31392 He wasn't talking to anyone but the speech was directed to the Fox Company. Why did you lose your respect for him? What he said was absolutely true, Fox aired the shows on the days people would most likely not watch. The finale of season 3 was aired on the day of the Winter Olympics. So it only got 3 million views. Fox is just a god damn cock tease. Always putting up great shows but canceling them before the shows can reach their full potential.

  • maybe they should add the fake claps..people seem to want to be told when to laugh../sarcasmoff

  • I have short attention spans and forget everything and can follow this show no problem. Also, the fact they RETELL WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE makes it SO EASY to follow that it's beyond me people couldn't keep up.

It's more like Fox fucking up royally by doing shitty marketing and changing the time it was on that made it go off air. Obviously someone at Fox didn't want it on for good.

I hope they don't go back to that shit ass network.

  • lindsay was sooo lucky lol

  • Today's news was definitely hot stuff!!

  • Marry me!

  • This show holds up beautifully; I just marathoned the three seasons over the last couple of days, and I still laughed so hard my boyfriend thought I was crying. There will never be another show like this (though there is Community, which is mad brilliance in its own way). I would kiss Mitch Hurwitz between the cheeks, so to speak.

  • Lol I used to watch this on G4, it was very clever & witty.

  • Preston is a moron. He obviously doesn't know what good tv or comedy is. Arrested development has a crazy among of set up and pay offs through out the series, something rarely seen in tv comedies and a stellar cast plus incredible writing. It has yet to be replicated successfully

  • I love that he is in costume during this whole thing.

  • People in marketing for this show are probably thinking, "I've made a huge mistake..."

  • @kc27rulz There're 31 of them right now...

  • I know I'm opening myself to all sorts of referential insults (and if you have a good one by all means fire away), but am I the only AD fan that thought the show started going down hill in the second season, and that a fourth would have quite likely have been bad?

Also, I love layerd complexy humour and my ego gets stroked a little when i catch a joke that you could only get if you also caught another subtle joke two episodes ago, but how do you build an audience for a show like that?

  • @monokhem

I'd say season 3 was not as good as the first two, but I definitely wouldn't call season 2 the start of a downhill. It was a perfect season.

The problem with AD's difficulty with finding a large audience is that it started too strong. I think if the Simpsons had started out directly at season 5, it also would've been too dense for audiences to handle. If AD had started out with one or two slightly dumbed-down seasons to get wide audiences into it, it would have gotten huge.

  • @xTheOxx I don't think so. A season 5 episode of the Simpsons can be watched by some one who has never sean the Simpsons before and they will get most, if not all the jokes.

The second season perfect? A notorious fellon hides in his own attic and the government doesn't find him? Buster gets accepted into the army? George switches with his brother and no one bothers to check the finger prints? Season one was set in reality. Most of the characters were crazy but the world they lived in was real.

  • @monokhem

OK, maybe you like your humor way more complex than AD really was...

  • @xTheOxx Something can be believable and funny without being complex. I found season one to be less complex, but more believable and more funny than season two. The best shows, AD, Futurama; Community, usualy have simple and complex humor side by side. A little more of the former may have gotten AD a bigger audience, but I wouldn't change how the work came out.

Something can be simple and fit within the confines of a believable reality too.

  • Oh David Cross, you Blow Hard!

  • Fox may have committed light treason when they made the huge mistake of canceling Arrested Development.

  • SUch an incredible show, I finished watching the series on netflix and still cant believe they cancelled it

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU FOX you self righteous narrow minded hypocritical assholes!! your "news" is a joke to anyone with a brain and you wouldn't know a brilliant piece of comedy if it bit you in the nuts!

they're all a bunch of chickens, thats what they are. ca-ca-ca-ca-ca-caawwww...

  • @Serpico69 ohhhhhhh! fox networks and entertainment?

    a-toodlie-doodlie-doo! a-toodlie-doodlie-doo!

  • this show is getting the firefly treatment...amazing show cancelled and then movie years later....why does fox cancel all their best shows honestly? we lost arrested development and firefly only to get dancing with the stars and american idol...fuck fox and fuck america...im ganna move to london where they know a good show when they find it...

  • @drag00n77 everyone in london is retarded you would be able to tell if it wasnt for their accents lol

  • i miss this show soo much!!!!

  • get a show with all those awards, add better marketing and it not being cancelled, baby you got a stew going

  • @HailToDB10 hahaha Fantastic.

  • We're talking about a country that actually likes crap like Family Guy, American Idol, cooking shows, etc. AD was far to intelligent for the TV medium. It's gotten so dumb I haven't even had a TV in years at this point.

  • @MandyVin17 There's nothing wrong with liking Family Guy and AD. Both are hilarious, Family Guy is just very different. It's def gotten smarter over the years.

  • @MandyVin17 You don't have a TV, you just look fo the tv shows in youtube. And how can you possible put etc. after putting, Family Guy, American Idol and cooking shows... That's like saying.. Good movies are District 9, Inception, Titanic, etc? .. And.. what's crappy about cooking shows.. Apparently.. you are too smart too watch cooking shows?.. Good job on your comment here btw.

  • @xoxelo I'm too smart for TV period, except for shows that are clever, funny, or have a good plot. Which leaves us with Breaking Bad and...South Park when it's good. I would also leave Titanic out of that mix.

  • @MandyVin17

they canceled it because u chose to watch it after it was taken off tv dumb fuck

  • @steveschapoks I watched it when it was on, asshole. Guess you don't know they fucked around it's timeslot so much nobody even knew when or if it was gonna be on. Go watch your exciting cooking shows, fucking idiot.

  • This show really should have been on IFC to begin with. It would have accquired a better fanbase (Although I'm not sure if IFC existed as a network back then.)

  • god this is the best show ive ever seen, why was it cancelled, now ill never know if Maebe and George Micheal get together

  • @FlamingAlchemist7...there have been talks about a movie going for like 5 years, but the latest interview I've read is it is probably coming out next year. Just a small ray of hope is better than none.

  • @FlamingAlchemist7 Did you even watch the fucking video you just commented on?

  • Douche chill...

  • Ohhh, Tobias...

  • And second-of-ly, I know you're the big "marketing expert" - oh, I'm sorry, I forgot, your marketing sucks.

  • @Ortmeyer41 hahaha nice one.. the whole 'wife is dead' thing. I like it.

  • David Cross pretty much gave Fox a big FUCK YOU right there, LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • Listen, this show's jokes are best when you pay attention to not only the dialogue but physical motions as well. The fact of the matter is, that appeals to smarter people over people with low attention pans and who are both politically and socially unaware. Everyone is capable of enjoying it, but not on the same level as others. I'm not trying to be pretentious. I'm sure there are people who understand it better than i do at times, but thats simply the case. Great show, cant wait for the movie.

  • @konions That's why a movie would let everyone enjoy it. I watched it on Nextflix by myself so i got all of the jokes. Other people might be on the computer while watching, petting the dog, etc. But in a movie theater you are staring at the screen.

  • @konions well said! i totally agree!

  • @konions this show is good but it is not THAT funny the simpsons in their prime will always be funnier and more intelligent.

  • @preston9019 LOL! are you a troll? Arrested Development is the funniest show to ever happen. Period.

  • @preston9019 Lawl, The Simpsons.. Really? Yeah, it's a good show, and really intelligent at times, but Arrested Development is, HANDS DOWN, the most clever show that Fox has ever put out... In my opinion, of course.

  • @Edazer im sorry but AD was mediocre, at best it made me chuckle

  • @preston9019 I'm just going to have to agree to disagree then, hahaha.. I certainly respect your opinion, I just disagree with it wholeheartedly...

  • @preston9019

There's a pretty significant difference between something you like, and something that's good. It might not have appealed to your sense of humor, but that doesn't mean it was mediocre. Objectively, you should be able to see the show's merit, even if you don't enjoy it.

  • @preston9019 what is your opinion of a funny television show then?

  • @DreadPresident the simpsons in their prime im talking about seasons 5 to maybe about 10 or 11

and early seasons of curb your enthusiasm

  • @preston9019 agreed, early curb kills me.

  • @konions you mean the fourth season? :D

  • Best show!

  • It's because it's "the show that everybody missed!" When it was on it had a really competitive time slot so no one watched it.

  • best show ever!!!!!!

  • Sounds like they prematurely shot their wad on what was supposed to be a dry run.

  • Man I agree. I never even heard of the show until a few years ago...honestly the greatest show I've ever watched. My favorite. It's not that you have to be super "smart" to get it, it's just that it's very hard to follow if you missed the episode before.

  • any show can get cancelled these days. the quality of the show doesnt even matter.

  • Was the show poorly advertised for?

  • Actually the reason AD failed is because it's about a quarter as funny if you don't catch every episode, and it started with a small fanbase. I hate that AD got cancelled, but anything that makes that faggot David Cross upset makes me smile, so that is some consolation.

  • @AssBurgerDeluxe Hello typical American. Go watch Family guy, you won't have to think at all, and you'll love the fart jokes.

  • @MandyVin17 Typical filthy foreigner, can't properly comprehend what I wrote but didn't let that stop him from starting with insults. Read what I wrote again, you filthy illiterate, see if you can comprehend it this time. If you can't, I'll be happy to send you some study notes. Fucking degenerate.

  • @AssBurgerDeluxe You know, flinging insults with absolutely no grounds to back them up doesn't make you look smart. It does quite the opposite - it make you look like an idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • It's not marketing's fault lol. It just wasn't right for Fox. Seems more like a TBS show. Bummer. Can't wait for the movie though.

  • I think it was too smart for the general public at the time.

I for one, didn't get the humour when I first saw it back in it's first season (which had some slight commercialization, if I recall, but not much). When I stumbled onto it in syndication in 2006 or 2007, though, I fell in love with it!

I believe it to be the BEST SITCOM EVER. It's certainly one of the smartest.

  • @AnimeCanuck Its too smart for the general public now, and probably will be for all of eternity. Thing with it is, that it broke grounds never before experimented and tried something completely new. Whether or not it is something for the future and that its steered the way for comedy, remains to be seen, but the fact that almost anybody who is a "fan" of the show, seemes to rate it as one of the greatest, certainly shows it has something. I too agree, it's best sitcom ever in my eyes...

  • @cainedbutable No, this "it was too smart for the general public" horseshit is just a bunch of nerds attempting to feel superior to the unwashed masses. Even David Cross, the most pretentious and poor hating son of a bitch in the country blames marketing, you fucking dork.

  • I completely agree with Cross. I didn't watch it while it was on because it was marketed so badly. I only discovered it by chance years later.

  • almost as pissed as when someone took his hard boiled eggs

  • I dont blame FOX for bad marketing. I think the show was too advanced for its market. If it failed on FOX, the most certainly would have failed on any other network.

  • they should make more episodes

    1 of a kind show

  • YEAH!!!

    stupidd... marketting..people... and such..

    i miss the show :(

  • Lol he sounded pretty pissed off, noby drops the F bomb that much (besides rappers) if they don't have proverbial steam coming from their ears. Save our bluths was a funny episode, "Please tell your friends about this show." lol loved that show, whoever screwed the pooch on that one should be publicly stoned (and I don't been high) or have his limbs tied to fours horses and then get them all to run in different directions. I wish they would bring it back. A movie will have to do.

  • best us show i've seen in the last 30 years

  • He blue himself :(

  • NEVERRRRRRRRRR!!!!

  • It wasn't US comedy clappy audience moral agenda comedy, it was just damn funny

  • I miss this show :(

  • One of the many parts that made me laugh was the first mention of the analrapist. The way Tobias pronounced it made me not see the card bit coming. Then it cuts to the card and you see what he was actually saying. I actually LOL'd so hard I had to pause the video.

  • this show was freakin hilarious! it sad that it had to be cancelled due to lack of ratings. its not your fault, AD, that the world is full of simple minded people who don't understand a different kind of humor besides justin bieber...=_=

  • lÕl_ANý_gÙýs_waNt_tö_chÄt_wÍth_mË

  • WORD.

  • Ms. Featherbottom speakin da trtuh

  • Who is it that David Cross is speaking to here?

  • @Carrzy1 Jeffrey Tambor aka George Sr

  • I guess he could always just go back to being a doctor…

  • If the actors are broke now, there's always money in the banana stand.

  • @Caneboy117 they burned it

  • @Caneboy117 THERE WAS MONEY IN THE BANANA STAND!

  • @Caneboy117 How many times do I have to tell you, THERE'S ALWAYS! MONEY! IN THE BANANA STAND!

  • @Scumboy555 NO TOUCHING! NO TOUCHING! NO TOUCHING!

  • @Caneboy117

    Your comment made my day!

  • @Caneboy117 NO TOUCHING!

  • spoken like a true analrapist.

  • never like AD ever best show

  • Dang that is one big bra..

  • My family and I didn't even know it existed until 2 years after it was over! Since I started passing the seasons around, its become their favorite show. Some have told be to stop bitching and watch modern family because it's basically the same show, so I say YOU GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS OFFICE! YOU GET THE HELL OUT!!

  • Amazing.

  • He just analraped the fox marketing team.

  • One of my favorite "quirky" TV shows. I can still remember the caption on the bottom of a Video of a swat team/military raid and it read" Home of Chemical and Mrs. Allie"....Pure genius.

  • This and The Office, and Psych are my favorite TV shows ever

  • They say this show didn't become a hit until after it went off the air, kinda like Family Guy. DVD sales and strong ratings on Cartoon Network put Family Guy back on the network, but Arrested Development had no such luck. I'm assuming that's because most people these days don't buy DVDs; they download torrents for free, like me. I'm pissed there aren't more shows, but then I didn't watch it when it was on air, so I only have myself to blame. Quite frankly, I didn't KNOW about it when it was on.

  • @StormSong8

i think more people buy tv show dvds than ever.

  • @StormSong8 I think people were buying the DVDs, but if no network demands the show, then it will stay gone. Even if someone wanted to bring it back, I think half of the cast had other offers in the works. Michael Cera and Jason Bateman have done very well since then!

  • @StormSong8 DVD sales were very strong for both series. The biggest thing that allowed Family Guy to be brought back and Arrested Development to be left behind was production costs. It costs WAY less to produce a cartoon than a show like Arrested Development.

  • @mikeman4k Could be, I wouldn't really know, I'm not big into TV show history and all that. I was just basing that off something I read (and partially off of a Seth MacFarlane interview w/Howard Stern.) But I DO know you're right about the production costs.

  • Fox did everything they could to market this show - crammed the network with ads for it during the first season, aired it after American Idol, gave it a prized Sunday slot (and the Sunday lineup was how Fox got big in the first place), kept renewing it when they were losing half a million dollars every episode. And it's worth remembering that Showtime offered to renew it for a fourth season and the lead writer declined because he wanted to do other things.

  • Fox is notorious for cancelling shows....i can't even begin to count how many shows on Fox have ended up getting cancelled.

  • ABC's Modern Family pretty much ran away with the style of Arrested Development.

  • I can honestly say I don't remember seeing one promo for this show when it was on. I don't know how anyone can watch this show and not find it hilarious. But it is Fox, so what do you expect? Fuckin idiot marketers.

  • "Maybe the problem doesn't lie here, maybe in lies within market- oops I mean: 'Would you like a banger in the mouth??'"

  • the show was cancelled because fox couldn't take a chubby and suck it up

  • What my mind cannot comprehend, is that horrendous shows like "Two And A Half Men" and "Family Guy" gets to live for 6+ *BLEEP* seasons more, than the amazingly brilliant show known as "Arrested Development"!

Is the American mainstream public just *BLEEP* retards? Don't they know when to laugh when there isn't a *BLEEP* laugh-track telling them too?? I know the blame is always gonna go to FOX for doing everything wrong (did they seriously not learn anything from canceling Futurama?) but C'mon!!

  • @insomniac011101 Family Guy is hilarious

  • @rpsmith014 ..It isnt. :)

  • @rpsmith014 Family Guy sucks, bro.

  • @wariosdabest bro

  • @rpsmith014 bro

  • I DREAM ABOUT THIS SHOW AND MAEBYS SEXY FEET IN FLIP FLOPS OMFG!!!!!

  • AND THATS WHAT YA' GET WHEN YOU CANCEL ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT!

  • It's the same reason those fuckers at FOX canceled 24, yet Seth Macfarlane still gets tv time. I fuckin hate FOX

  • While I miss AD as much as anyone, making the marketing department the scapegoat isn't really fair. Fox kept the show on the air for several seasons despite its consistently low ratings; they gave it more than a fair chance.

The problem was that the very thing we all love about it -- its constant in-jokes, cross-references, and other elements that assume the viewer has seen every previous episode -- made it a show that did not appeal to or hook casual viewers.

  • @jmange ABC's Lost had way more obscure references than Arrested Development, while automatically assuming that the viewer had seen and poured over every single detail in all of its previous episodes and yet managed to run for an astonishing six years. Compare that with this brilliantly planned and written show that was cancelled after its third season. If that isn't fail marketing, then I don't know what is.

  • TOBIAS YOU BLOWHARD!

  • SallieSimpson. this cunts existence is proof enough that this show is too intelligent for like 80% of americans

  • Comment removed

  • I thought it was canceled because when they calculated the show's cost to make vs the ratings it generated it didn't do as well as reality TV; or even as well that piece of shit Fox show Prison Break.

Yeah marketing is partially to blame, but I also knew too many people who "couldn't follow" the intricate plot twists. I put the blame for the show's cancellation squarely on the shoulders of the average American mouth breather

  • the worst thing about Fox is that they didn't want to continue the show AND didn't want to sell the rights to HBO for them to continue is (with new episodes)..... talking about being *&#^$&@

  • President of FOX two days after AD was laid off: I made a huge mistake.

  • @brianmoon10 They brought back Family Guy, why not Arrested Development?

  • @And8But they brought it back twice, ill rather have this than family guy

  • @And8But I don't know haha. I won't be surprised if they give Seth Macfarlane another damn show since they're letting him piss all over Fox nowadays anyway.

  • @And8But so true...family guy just kinda sucks nowadays and it just seems like every episode appears to be rehashed. family guy has somewhat overstayed its welcome

  • News division, entertainment division, its all the same the way I see it.

When FOX makes mistakes, they always make them big.

  • so true :(

  • Somebody made a huge mistake.

  • LOOK AT BANNER MICHAEL!

  • @Kittycassx ahhaahhahah damn thats funny thank you for reminding me of that

  • @KJB2010 you're welcome xD

  • the world`s first analrapist is right..

  • they cancelled what could have become the best show on television ever. Which makes the shows name very ironic.

  • Oh Tobias, you blow hard

  • @konatown5

    he just blue himself

  • I don't get why this show is supposed to be hard to get into?

I was 14 when I saw this the first time. And it was an episode in the middle of a season. I loved it instantly after just watching for five minutes. Wasn't hard at all to get into. Great jokes, a vast variety of characters and consistent story. I'm 21 now and still love the show. My favourite comedy show of all time.

  • @Svetsarkirurgen Same here man, i was 13 when i saw this AMAZING show for the first time. Got hooked immediatly.
