My all time favourite games. I can see a Thief 4 working if they say bought in a new character (a solo thief in the city) who begins having interactions with a mysterious woman, and eventually Garrett comes into the story. It could be a good midstory to lead into another Garrett game as well while bringing in new fans, assuming Garret now doesn't age if he truely is some kind of special solo keeper.
I had always hoped this ending meant there would be a fourth game, sigh.
But of course... It's also the closing of the story, by "starting it over".
I truly love the storyline of this game, it has a depth most games today lack. Not to mention how innovative Theif 1 was, when it came out - the AI was remarkable compared to other games from that period.
What can I say? Deus Ex and Thief - that's all you need.

Garret is now the only TRUE keeper. THE keeper of the Glyphs. Perhaps he is the KEY to unlock the glyphs again, maybe he has that power. Being the only "good" and reliable person in that world, it his duty to safeguard the glyphs until they can be safely used again...
So, Thief 4 with a female protagonist? It would be cool, if she would be Garrets apprentice. But the game would have to be dam good.
The Glyph's are broken, so at this point chances are that the true 'Keepers' are gone. From another video from the end of the game(I beleive it was the one right before the video above)we see a young Keepers browsing through the library, mumbling about how everything's gone. But we see that Garrett became an excellent thief with only the training of an acolyte and without glyphs at all. Besides, he could always just have an apprentice without forming another cult.

I think a movie could be very very good if the mood was sufficiently kept. A major issue with movies regarding stories and games like this, is that the air of mystery that's sustained throughout the game, the steady cloud of shadowy ambience would be overlooked for the less patient moviegoers. In books and games, there is information that is clearly being hidden, things you aren't meant to ever find out, while in movies they tell you way too much just to keep you 'interested'.

Well, I am not sure if it THE scariest. But with a good sound-system, and a night-ish mood, and you WILL be craping your pants. It is beyond anything I have ever played.
But, many reviewers and industry professionals have said the same thing: it is very very scary.
I think someone made a special report about the level. 14 pages long.

hm, I just can tell, that playing 3rd or 4th of this mission I still wasn't sure if an enemy is just waiting somewhere in the orphanage which I hadn't noticed before :D

its not the sounds that scare you its the dark and what lies in it. in T2 i went into a celler and all i heard was a chain rattling in the darkness and then a low laugh..and then! BAM!!!!!i wont tell u what happened, its in t2 in the level at the mechinist cathedraal

I think its great to make a game like Thief. I just started playing Thief 3 : deadly shadows. I just love to sneak and steal in difference with other game when it is run, shoot , win.

Well, here is my theory:
Garret is now the only TRUE keeper. THE keeper of the Glyphs. Perhaps he is the KEY to unlock the glyphs again, maybe he has that power. Being the only "good" and reliable person in that world, it his duty to safeguard the glyphs until they can be safely used again...
So, Thief 4 with a female protagonist? It would be cool, if she would be Garrets apprentice. But the game would have to be dam good.

The Glyph's are broken, so at this point chances are that the true 'Keepers' are gone. From another video from the end of the game(I beleive it was the one right before the video above)we see a young Keepers browsing through the library, mumbling about how everything's gone. But we see that Garrett became an excellent thief with only the training of an acolyte and without glyphs at all. Besides, he could always just have an apprentice without forming another cult.

The Keepers are pretty much the 'Illuminati' of the Thief world. They'll be around, in one form or another, forever.

Agreed. Like I said, maybe there won't be an official cult, but there's still ex-Keepers, and Garrett was just fine when he learned to work without glyphs. A cult of Garrett's doesn't sound bad to me.

I think a movie could be very very good if the mood was sufficiently kept. A major issue with movies regarding stories and games like this, is that the air of mystery that's sustained throughout the game, the steady cloud of shadowy ambience would be overlooked for the less patient moviegoers. In books and games, there is information that is clearly being hidden, things you aren't meant to ever find out, while in movies they tell you way too much just to keep you 'interested'.

There is very little chance of another Thief game, sadly. Thief:DS's developer Ion Storm has closed its doors.
