@survivalnewbie The point was for people who are buying light weight gear for survival use and not looking at gear that will work. I personally can not use locking clasps sport climbing. I use locks for rapelling, mountaineering, and on the water...
@jpcwa74 Why? The cost of each product and the ability to carry weight do not add up. I have been bitched at for not understanding that Niteize was made for keys and Neutrino was made for saving climbers that fall. I have not gotten that others lack the vision or understanding that a lighter more capable product was able to do what there gimick can not, and if holding their keys is what they want, then more power to them.
@gunskniveswatches If its being used for double duty, climbing too, then that's different. I have never met any Professional climbers that do that though. Most have separate equipment that is specifically only for climbing.
black diamond has tons of gears made in China now. check the label of their Positron screwgate carabiner for example.
the s-biner and neutrino are made for their specific uses. i have plenty carabiners but wouldnt use them on my keychain on the other hand i wouldnt use an s-biner for climbing.
@panzergrenadier90 Weight , Cost, and Capability on a survival pack or in an environment that work has to be done was the point. The vid was not about keys and a S-biner with 75 pounds rating was the subject of vid. It was heavier and would do less.
@panzergrenadier90 Where it is made does not matter as long as it works and these to me will not work not just for climbing but hiking, canoeing, etc..
I have often wondered why the hell the "keychain grade" carabiners were so expensive after seeing what a real carabiner costs. Before then, I assumed the climbing ones were a lot more. Sure, some of them are a little heavier/more expensive, but I'd rather have a worst climbing carabiner than the best keychain one. I'm sure if more ppl knew, the cheapo keychain ones wouldn't even exist. Of course, most people probably don't put that much thought into it. Wonder what causes the weight rating
@wcropp1 difference to be so great? The only thing I like about the S-Biners is the ease of being able to add/remove individual things from your keychain without having to remove the whole thing from your belt--having the two gates is nice. The added strength of the real carabiners is worth the minor inconvenience though. Great tip...thanks.
No clasp lock. I still wouldn't trust it for climbing.

@jpcwa74 That is what I thought. 75lbs and the wieght just did not add up.

@gunskniveswatches well yeah, that's my point. its weird that anyone would use this for just keys. Waste of money imo.

@jpcwa74 I though it was wierd too. People try to justify their decisions in the end most of the time....

@VWA2MKII Mine have the USA marking on them. They may make some in China but mine are not and I just got them in the past year.

Does electrical tape fit on the black diamond?

would this be too big for a keychain carabiner?
damndan05 9 months ago
@damndan05 If you have a lot of keys then yes it is perfect. For me a split ring and lobster claw clasps from county comm work better.

Thanks! Do you have a review of the C.A.M.P. USA Nano 23 Wiregate Carabiner?
