This could only be a second car. If I needed(wanted) to take a trip I would have to have another car and I take trips all the time. Would I rent a car everytime I go over a hundred miles one way. The price is high. I could buy a subcompact and gasoline for 5 years for that price. In five years you would have to replace the batteries and that would cost a fortune. Enough for gas for another five years or a good down payment on a new subcompact. NO DEAL!
Until the value (price / features) is comparable to gas powered cars, they are not going to sell many. $30K for a two seater, very light-weight, very limited vehicle is not appealing. Even with rebates, ditto for $23K.
If I can have the A/C running at full power and be comfortable in 98 degree weather while sitting in traffic for 2 hours and still travel 120 miles round trip then I'll look a buying one. If our idiot law makers want another law then make them display miles per charge with the A/C running on maximum.
Actually this car is a two passenger, 70mph and crash tested vehicle. This is not a nev. This car should work well in most weather but of course the range is not really good for long commutes. Eighty to one hundred mile range is good for most peoples day to day use but you'll still need a gas car for longer ranges or moving more people. Not too bad but kinda pricey for a small car.
Communities should train their local population about conversion kits and services instead. Current cars have better frame in case of collision. A/C heaters should be powered by optional alternative fuel. If you don't use them, the fuel should be able to recharge the battery for extending range easily as well. The corporate industry monopoly are not in favorite of electric cars because gasoline consumption and gasoline stock profits require no works and can be easily manipulated by wars.
Nice an OK car if your living in a place that never gets snow. max speed is something to be left desired i have highways that have speed limits of 70 so right off the bat its already got a problem. not meant for a car to have in the long run either since it probibly only seats 2 people. not a traveling car either since electric cars take a few hours to recharge so if you planning on going on a grand tour of the US forget it. for the price buy a honda that gets 35-40 mpg and sits 4.
@jonnnyyb3 yea they are pretty high priced but it pays off. (its still pretty ugly though) maybe one day they will make electric cars more attractive and powerful. it isn't a death trap in most countries. it is in the U.S. because every feels the need to buy big ass f150's :-)
I bet it handles just nicley.

@TheSpinWorld There is a company in Massachusetts that has a kit for the Ford Explorer that will do the same distance as that base model Wheego.

All electric cars need to give range while running full A/C and or heater. Otherwise the number is useless
