It just takes a lot of throttle control to drive the ZR1 because it has so much torque. I started out at the same times as this guy but with practice I was able to clock 7:26 with the ZR1 with the same tires (Sport Hard) and no tuning.
@BIakDragon Yeah, on the game I found that a problem. I does not forgive you for making mistakes. But when I eventually got the hang of it, I actually enjoyed driving it.
@BIakDragon If it takes F1 racing skills to be that good to take the ZR1 on such a trek (as in you need enough brain power to both keep the car on the track AND keep watch of what's going on around you, aka "Situational Awareness"), I wouldn't consider that a good car. Kinda like the difference between a Fokker Dr.I and an F-16. Both are highly effective fighters, but the former demands enormous flying skills (thus resulting in a very short life expectancy for the pilots) the latter not as much.
In your description, you say it feels heavy despite being fairly light. It isn't light at all - it weighs over 1500 kilos, which is amazing considering it's made of plastic.
I think a professional racing driver could get the ZR1 round in the time GM claimed, but only a professional could. Is the Dodge Viper ACR easier to drive on the game?
@sailorenlil The Viper ACR is a much better car. It's a surprise that it's actually better to drive than the ZR1, as Chevrolet have been building the Corvette for over 50 years. GM were promising an epic car, that would be a match for the best of Europe. Is that what we got? No. We got a cut price plastic car with the precision of a sledgehammer.
@NobleM15fan Keep in mind that the ZR1 *does* still approach, match or exceed a lot of premiere European cars in real life. Not to mention that the Viper ACR was pretty much spot-tailored to beat the ZR1. The ZR1 ain't a bad car by any stretch (no car with times in the 7:20-7:40 range on the Nurburgring is), the Viper ACR is simply *better*.
@Jukkaimaru I don't think it does. In terms of straight line speed it does, but I've seen a lot of reviews of it by European magazines and it was generally "it's very fast, and it is good value, but it feels too flimsy for a 6 figure car." It was also criticised for feeling very heavy, and being very twitchy in the corners. It is the best Corvette ever, and it does have good qualities. But GM were hyping it up so much, and when all's said and done it's not as good as they promised.
@Jukkaimaru The big problem with the ACR is, it is a race car every review has said that it is when the hardcore pack (on the official timed car) has been added. The driver was complaining about understeer so they ajusted the suspension (part of the car's set-up) and bingo 7:22.4. So it's not really a production car like the ZR1/GTR both unchanged... Yes the ACR is street legal but who drives a 911 GT3 every day to work? No-one!!! So to me it's basically a road going race car GTR/ZR1 are not!
Everyone should have two browser windows open. Position them side x side, have this video play in one window, and the real ZR1 7:26 run in the other window.
@ZR1Sa Did you run the hard compound sports tires? I got sick of sliding all over the place and used soft compound sports tires and got a 7:25 :p I'm using the regular controller BTW.
@joshnc101 As stated, completely stock, so yes hard compound sport tires. The purpose of this run was to test the car in completely stock config, so tires included. I'm sure I'll get better times with softer compound tires (but that would be a different kind of run then).

@NobleM15fan Heavy as in it seems to have too much momentum, as in I need to brake early, and getting out of a corner is especially tricky.
Yeah the Viper ACR is actually easier to handle than the ZR1, though still tricky.

@NobleM15fan Indeed, and the fanboys still don't get it.
