I must admit that lately I prefer to carry a 230g gas canister and a tiny gas burner (Kovea supalight, including a Primus Windscreen) inside the Trek 900 pot: a gas burner makes more noise, but for practically the same weight and size it is much easier to light and the fuel lasts for more days!
@juki0h Water and a (rough) sponge is normally sufficient (I always carry a little sponge in stead of the towel now). And usually I also carry a little bottle of detergent inside the pot for the tougher cleaning jobs. Fuel should be okay for a day or two. If it runs out I have a bottle at the car/camp.
@SuhwoopGGs503 'Tis your choice! Some like the dependability of a burner above the possibility of no/wet/illegal wood for the fire. It's great not having to search out wood when hungry and tired.
I think I'm going to get myself this exact same setup. I used trangias for years before switching to gas but the Mini has definitely piqued my interest again. Coupled with a swish looking set of Snow Peak pots I think you're onto a winner. Nice location too.
Changed the fuel type from the expensive liquid fuel my local camping store recommended over to simple cheap mentholated spirits and now I'm cooking up some good food on the trail, this trangia is my go to cooking system now :D
my trangia was making my pot black just like yours and i bought methyl hydrate from local outdoors store. amazing to see the difference. probably you would know anyways. cheers
I LOVE your video!!!!! I already have the snowpeak 900 ti and I wanted to buy the mini trangia (stove and windshield) but I couldn't find information if it would fit in my pot. until now!!! great kit!!!!
Looks like a nice compact system. I'd loost the fishnet stuff sack. It doesn't seem like you will need it with that strap. That, or loose the strap. Real serious set up. Good video.
Man, I love this video, but at the same time I hate it because it makes me want to buy the Snow Peak Trek 900 and the Trangia burner! It actually got me to buy the Trangia, now I'm working on the cookset LOL
Wow man,I liked the video . Great pretty place to enjoy cooking ,you seem to have all the nice things, and it all looked and worked so very well for you.. I hope some day to buy items like you have. Thanks for taking the time to video.
@nroc13 I have no clue, because I never measured it :-). And besides, it heavily depends on the wind conditions. All I know is that the Trangia in this setup (so without the special Trangia pots) is not very efficient/fast. But it's light, small and burns without lots of noise.
The set you are using, I believe, was created for the folks who run the endurance competition. The burner comes with a tiny pot and cover, and called Mini Trangia 28. If exposed to wind, alcohol stove does not perform well. Have you tried M25 or M27? These are the ones that will impress you with the utility of the Trangia alcohol burner. You can cook virtually in any weather. With the gas burner insert, it is a powerhouse.
Hello im going to a festival soon and am taking one of these sort of burners. However i dont have a little cap to put on the top, so will the flames be too big to cook anything on? Also how long will it take to cook things like noodles and tins of beans? Thanks for anyone who can help! :
@Edzherenow99 Thanks, I use a small "tension strap". Here in The Netherlands they sell these at the better outdoor shops to keep... eh... pots together :-)
when u did ur modification on the pot stand does the 900 like wobble a little since i have the exact same problem the pot is a tad to small for the pot stand!
@nroc13 Yeah, I agree: the fit is not perfect. Not so much of a wobble but the 900 might slip off if you touch it too much. But a bit of "fine tuning" the pot stand (with needle-nose pliers) might help...
To avoid soot on your pot use pure methanol (alcohol methyl) it will render a blue flame and will no soot your cuttlery at all. Yellow flames denotes unpure methanol, ethanol or even isopropyl alcohol.
Put the handles on the lee-side to avoid burning your hands without using gloves (if there is a wind of course).
I have a similar setup, with an East German mess kit and Trangia. I was looking for a practical stand. I cut a role of wire mesh to make a stand, but there was obviously no wind resistance. I came across the Coghlans stove for about $14 Canadian. It folds up nice and has excellent wind protection.
nice vidio mate, I'm setting off on an expidition in a few days and I needed something like this... I'm totally buying one of these. Anyone have a link to a site that sells at a decent price?
5/5 stars! Excellent backpack cooking setup. I use the same thing except I have the Trek 700 with a snow peak 450 Ti cup that fits nice inside the 700. I can also get salt, pepper, folding fork & spoon and a washing cloth to fit inside too. Gotta love backpacking!!

@prometheus19799791 In Europe you can combine this kit for about 70 euros (50 for the pans plus 20 for the burner).

@2kargarage1 The pots are Snow Peak, so titanium. The pot stand is aluminium (or aluminum in your case ;-)), by Trangia.
