Horowitz always had the uncanny ablility to clarify the most difficult pieces. I do like this performance, but I would suggest removing some of the clutter would help.
i realize my opinion may be obliterated here because it's clearly not a popular one: technically she's wonderful, i however felt nothing and could not gather any color or true life from this interpretation, her hands were more enthralling than the piece itself, and with the exception of a well-followed upper melody, the general dynamic was jittery and did not build to any traceable climax. i think i have been spoiled by Horowitz, but rightly so
This is an example of a performer getting empathetically (physically) involved in the music without trying to be showy. Contrast that with the performers whose hands, head, and body fly all over the place---and whose performances generally are either sloppy or metronomic.
This performance is exceptional on many levels. It's different than that of the mainstream, but it's valid, and it's intelligently played. It's an interpretation, not a rote-based recital as so many do nowadays.
why do asians seem to have different hand techniques to westerners? their hands seem to elastically mould over the keys in a sloppy way but still have great definition?
@afertyus1000 because we eat rice and tofu every day, then we pray to ancestors for nimble and unique 'hand techniques' to differentiate ourselves from white devils.
A nice interpretation - sleek and precise - I find this a bit TOO "affannato", though... It doen't feel wrong, but I like to hear it played more continuously.
Encore une pianiste de talent ...elle joue Scriabin mieux que Kissin...en plus elle joue sans regarder le clavier.., Quel exploit !?. Bonjour les crampes aux doigts !!! GRENOBLE FRANCE
I find this interpretation great ! I like the power, the sincopatus, the little pauses before the explosions. I mean ... is great. Nothing to say. BUT I love this song played more .... passionly. As a inner turmoil that HAVE to jump out of your soul. In this case i Adore Horowitz interpretations and maybe not well known to the mass .... Lydia Jardon one. Just try to listen. And will debate here again.
Piano really has very little to do with muscular strength. You get all your power from placing your body's full weight on ur finger tips. U do this by relaxing ur wrists, elbows, and shoulders, so all ur kinetic energy transfers fluidly without hitting any stops. The 4th and 5th fingers need a bit of training, but otherwise its much much more about technique. Halida Dinova (watch her Rachmaninoff video) taught me for a lil, and she is a virtuosa.
thanks for telling me that you are "looking down" on other people´s opinions (not that i couldn´t sense that before) cause that makes it easier for me to get myself out of this banal argument. still 1 thing is really interesting: since i was reading a lot about female musicians of 19th century (and reactions to them) i find your comments very similar to male behaviour back then: first pretend to be "rational"+omniscient, if this isn´t successfull go on with degrading irony. sad link...
ha, of course i can deny that!! in other times it was supposed to be "the lack of creativty" now it´s some "muscular power"..and people always were so CONVINCED that they were right with these ideas.. you know, convinctions sometimes control or delimit one´s perception of reality and possibility.. history proves that for me quite well..
Are her eyes closed!!!!???? Amazing!!! I love the way her hands move....like magnetically attracted to the keyboard..she looks like she is making love...I'm going to dress like a piano!! :0)
beside her wonderful technique, her best quality of playing in here seems that she is deeply connected as she plays w/ out fluffy, showy gesture, internally she's directly connected to this brooding, seething inner terbulence of Scriabin--that certainly is a rare quality these days among young pianist.

This is definitely a different interpretation from the "standard" version everyone else plays, and it's probably not everyone's cup of tea.

"Say that to Beethoven, Scriabin, and Rachmaninoff."
You have no understanding of their music and your opinion fucking sucks.
"I was talking with somebody else and I think it is none of your business. "
God damn you're stupid.
Continue carrying pianos your whole life instead of playing them, fucktard.
bulbulxp 2 years ago
playing the piano isn't about "muscular power". It is usually bad to have too strong hands for a pianist.
"Well, if you are so confident about your muscular power, I sincerely wish you to come to help me carry the piano since I am about to move."
Why don't you carry my piano?
