  • I like at the end how he doesn't have the right codecs to play an mp4. Ahh, Linux :)

  • if anyone wants to use ffmpeg in their websites to make and upload videos then ..I can provide the command line support. I have 3 years of linux and ffmpeg experience.

  • Not so unfortunate if you consider it this way: Windowing system frontend for FF.

  • I don't understand this video surely that is what ffmpeg IS in the first place...a library to code/decode video formats, so he installs ffmpeg and it still doesn't work ?

  • Waste of time I just use ffmpeg with the terminal you barely need to use more that two command anyway to do a conversion.

  • try handbrake ... its great

  • Shawn you should make a video telling us what you think of Gentoo.

    Is it worth installing?

  • God No, save your self the frustaration!!!! It takes hours to compile correctly! It's the Windows of the Linux world!! PLEASE PLEASE don't make an assumption on linux Based on an experience with gentoo!!! Mandriva, Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora Hell even KateOS anything but Gentoo!!!

lolz! I've already got Ubuntu installed. Before that I tried Suse and Xandros.

I can't stop thinking about gentoo. People rail about how it's the fastest and how fun it is to customize. Plus you get bragging rights.

But tell me more about your bad experiences with it. Perhaps I won't install gentoo after all.

  • It's more a myth then anything else. In Gentoo you compile the programs with special switches (target: i686, features: mmx, mmx2). But most packages nowadays are already made with this switches. In my opinion, you spend a lot of time for compiling, for 1 or 2% more speed, you even don't notice.

If you want a real fast Distribution you should use one of the tiny ones, like:

    *PCLXDE

    *Puppy Linux

    *SliTaz

  • Security is also an issue. Puppy is shit for security. It's one of those distributions that doesn't ask you for a password to get root access.

And if they screwed up something so blatant and simple, imagine all the other, more intricate security screw-ups underneath the hood.

  • I agree with you. But you don't need to use Puppy Linux.

Did you tryed the other distros I mentioned?

  • How are they for security?

  • PCLXDE is pretty fine.

    SliTaz has something like sudo.

  • @cavaliersunbird

while i agree on your points in regards compiling, but saying gentoo is the windows of the linux world is just plain bullshit, thats ubuntu ...

There are a lot of distros, everybody can choose what he/she wants and use it.

While i would not recommend anybody gentoo who is just starting with linux, its a great distro and i use it since 2004.

  • @bataribalazsl Ubuntu is the easy-to-configure uberlinux of linux.

  • Pretty good. I still recommend that a user actually learn the command line usage of it, but if it is needed in a hurry or it is frustrating, this is a good fallback to use.

  • dont forget the medibuntu repos.

    and hd presets

  • thanks for that! I will play around with it in Ubuntu, I normally use SUPER in windows, alas, to get my videos to the right size for youtube widescreen but I am keen to find a way using my main OS

  • I use this on windows XD
