@TheChickeneer The only lubrication I use is a coat of wax - specifically Minwax paste finishing wax. I imagine baby powder would be helpful as long as it doesn't get wet with condensation from humid compressed air. Graphite would also work well if you're not concerned about grey streaks on the moving parts. Try just the wax first and then go from there. Good luck.
No, you really can't run it on steam. The steam would swell the wood up and sieze the engine very quickly so it's compressed air only for this engine.
Well, it may take longer to start swelling but I believe it would still sieze pretty quickly. Even if the moisture from the steam was somehow prevented from penetrating the finish there would still be the problem of differential thermal expansion causing problems.
sounds better then the all glass one ;)

@jessiecrtr Plans were from Live Steam magazine. They were printed over 3 issues starting with the Nov/Dec 2000 issue.

Very cool! I myself am making an air engine out of all wood and its easier then I thought! (im only 14)
Anyway what do you use to lubricate the moving parts? My dad reccomended baby powder do you think that will work?

I wonder if you could run this on steam if you coated the cylinder and piston in clear coat paint?
