I spoke with Hitchens once, on the telephone, from my boat in Annapolis Maryland. He was featured guest on CSPAN that day and was discussing his contacts within the Pentagon. I called in and asked him if he had a security clearance allowing him to wander aimlessly through the Pentagon. He laughed at the prospect and said he did not have a clearance.
This was my only contact with Hitchins and I am writing it down to dishcharge a weird sense of duty to his memory somehow.. RIP
