Im 37 years old, and i used to watch this show every morning during the early 1980's before the bus would pick me up for school. To this day the theme song sometimes still repeats in my head lol. Looking back i am thankful for growing up during a simpler time when not everything was a sellout, and not everyone was so self absorbed in their technology. It was also a time when parents knew how to parent, and kids were actually physically active. The great times are long gone, and its sad.
SHUT UP RICKY! JUST SHUT UP RIGHT NOW! unless the next words out of your mouth are directions to the fish skeleton then im gonna punch you in the stomach!
I loved this show! Thanks for posting this! I checked out GreatSpaceCoaster on the web and came across the logo with "Get on Board 2012." What's THAT all about?! Any ideas?
@xchickenmanx : We need to put an illuminated fish skeleton in space. I would actually pay higher taxes for that. I think it would really mess with the heads of aliens passing throught the galaxy. "Hey guys, do I take a left or right at the fish skeleton, wait........wtf"????
"shut up ricky just shut up. Unless the next words out of your mouth directions on how to get back to the fish skelton, im gonna punch you in the stomache!"
i knew this was real but everybody said it was a dream. i knew it was a real show. too every body in my family that said that to me you can kiss my a*@#$!!!
@721rem Oh, you just had to go there!! LOL I remember Romper Room, sadly enough :P I'm going to go lay down next to my Lite Bright and hug Teddy Ruxpin now lol xxx
Very catchy song. Some of the theme songs for TV shows are great. I get them stuck in my head even years after I last heard them. Some songs in TV & radio commercials are also catchy. Commercials used to be more, um, what's the word, regional? But with cable TV & satellite radio we can hear commercials for other areas. I have some on audio tape that I recorded back in the late 70s & through the 80s. I have some very funny car dealer commercials from San Diego when I used to live there in the 80s
@Quandary2 Maybe I should put them on youtube, there might be people out there that would enjoy hearing them or hearing them again if they heard them when they were being used. I should go through my audio and video tapes and see if I can get them recorded to digital format with reasonable quality.
I used to watch this every day as a kid. The older tv shows, like this one, hill street blues, etc., had such better opening intro music in them then the shows nowadays.
Sounds like spring reverb abuse on the intro. If you have a guitar amp that has spring reverb, if you hit the amp with your fist, with the reverb cranked, you get that exact same sound. One of the things they haven't figured out how to do in digital reverb.
It took me until I was twelve until I developed a crush on Julie Kinisky from "Gimme a Break!"! I guess that everybody's mind and body grows up at a different speed!
One of the few themes that I have always loved that is not in my collection. I barely remember this program in some respect and will never forget it in others. Roaring towards the other side where only rainbows hide!
I never actually watched this....what exactly was this all about? To me it kinda' seems like a cross between New Zoo Review and Kroft Superstars......???
Here's what is scary about this show....We don't know enough about our galaxy to know whether or not this show is based on real stuff or not.....I used to love this show when I was little, but now it kind of freaks me out and gives me a lot to think about.
in 1979 i was 11 years old and this was the song that gave me my flash backs for drug use . 3 years later i met my drug dealer who i bought 98% of my drugs from. we were talking about crappy music and i mentioned the great space coaster theme and we both smoked a joint and teared up because we were so high.
I was late for school SOOO many times because I had to watch this show! I didn't care that I was in Junior High...this show was great! Like HR PufnStuf in outer space!
I agree with you. But I was thinking about your comment while I was on the toilet and figured that the only way to travel through the galaxy would be to do it at light speed. I came to the conclusion that their little ship had some sort of retractable roof that was never seen when they filmed the show. Just a thought.
I remember this show. It used to come on USA Network. I remember the "News with Gary Gnu" and I believe they had a big talking dog. They always showed video clips from a minature video viewer of some sort. Man, time goes by so fast!!!
@gipnfdl007 Yes, it sucked and still sucks. I hated this song and the entire cast especially that black boy; he was very annoying with that little mini movie thing. I'd rather watch Mister Rogers.
Used to be I'd get outta bed at like four a.m. to see Romper Room, this, The Muppet Show, then later Fraggle Rock, before school. Ah, the bad old days. What was that show with the Frog, the Hippo (Henrietta Hippo, that was it), and that other one; people in enormous costumes? Was that this? I don't remember... the food even at that time was ish-poisony, undernourishing... what a warped, bizarre childhood I had. I miss Showbiz Pizza Place, that place was wonderful. I love WonderShowzen.
Born in 72. This was one of favorite shows to watch in the morning right before going to school. I think growing up around that time I realize our generation was very lucky to have great shows.
I'm an 80's baby and I can't say the same about kids growing up now. A number of the shows are horrible now. Give me the old-school shows from back in the day!
@technologick1183 we tend to get too "clever" over time in several areas of interest (tv, movies, music)...the stuff out there now is actually stuff that our generation is putting together, so it's hard to know who to blame...in the horror genre, for example, simplicity will always win (Psycho may not be gory, but it has the right atmosphere and it's relatively simple, so it lasts...DinoShark will look silly in a few years, if not now)...
In 1979 I was merely 4 years old, and this was the song that gave me my passion for becoming a musician. 30 years later I actually met the composer of this song (Anne Bryant who also composed 98% of the music for Jem). We got to talking about music, and I mentioned (randomly) that The Great Space Coaster theme was when I truly wanted to be a musician. She told me that she wrote the theme. I almost teared up, and then I said "Anne you're why I became a musician." This song changed my life!
Some ideal visions I have of Baxter & his coaster in a contest with the starship Enterprise D,or the Huggles singing the Teletubbies theme (one promo showed four Huggles) (who would win,Huggles or Teletubbies?)
i'm trying to find the one...that had a space train...and it was a cartoon..and it was always going back in time and such....argggh. i think it was a late 70's early eighties cartoon.
I remember watching this before school every morning. I used to have to get up at 6am because my parents left for work early and I had to make sure I woke my younger brother up
ahhhhhhhh!!!! omg. this totally brings me so far back! I love it love it love it!!! They don't make shows like this anymore. For the ones who know about this show, we had it good y'all!!
Well we are officially lost. On the Great Space Coast, SHUT UP RICKY!! JUST SHUT UP RIGHT NOW!!! Unless the next words out of your mouth are directions how to get back to the fish skeleton or I'll punch you right in the stomach! LMAO
Yes! I can't believe this was aired way back in 81. I was thinking mid-80's with Transformers, and Dungeons & Dragons, etc. But, like others, I don't remember what the show was about, except that annoying "line-guy" cartoon, lol.
i'm 26 and i remember this, must of been something of my moms recorded on vhs since its quite old. I remember a certian clip where this lama was doing the news and he says were going to talk about dance. and some pants fall on his head he says not pants dance. or something of the sort lol
"We are officially lost". "On the great space coa...." "Shut Ricky, unless the next words out of your mouth are directions on how to get back to the fish skeleton, or I will punch you in the stomach" LOL
I love this show! I use to watch this show every morning before I went to school! My how the times fly...

@surferaw949 Shame on you. Why would you say such things? It makes you look very ignorant and foolish.

Believe it or not, this show was Kevin Clash's puppeteering debut, long before he worked with Jim Henson. He was the voice of Gorridle the Gorilla.

Yes! I can't believe this was aired way back in 81. I was thinking mid-80's with Transformers, and Dungeons & Dragons, etc. But, like others, I don't remember what the show was about, except that annoying "line-guy" cartoon, lol.
