Nice going! I'm sure 50 lbs moves it along pretty good. My motor is the same as in the video (55 lbs). I doubt there is much difference between 50 and 55 lbs. I have only gotten 3.7 mph out of mine. Inflatable rafts have so much drag since most don't have V-hulls. Have you checked the speed on yours?
Nice video! I have the Minn Kota Endura 55 (approx. 1.3 hp) on the Excursion 4 and used the GPS to test the speed. On the # 5 forward setting, we maxed out at 3.7 mph with 3 people on board. It's not going to break any speed records but I am real happy with it so far. I am trying to figure out how to make a floor and canopy without breaking the bank. Any suggestions?

I have an intex excursion 4 boat running a minn kota 30# with a 120amp hr 24 size battery. My battery is fairly heavy, weighs about 50lbs. My motor runs LONG, can go 12-14hrs on the lowest setting easy with a single charge. When I am in the open water lake, I normally run at mid speed which is 3. This is lake ponchartrain too, 2nd largest lake in the USA! I keep the battery in a minn kota power center box, I check the meter off and on to see how much battery is left. Great setup for mine!
@wolfgangadam it probably would or maybe a little faster but you are not going to control it I hope! I am 14 years old and I am getting my license for it! I think you have to be over 13 or so check with your parents and/or the Bait and Tackle shops. You would probably go faster though because of the length of your jonboat. @wolfgangadam oh okay. Well, have fun and good luck fishing if you are. And is your engine a freshwater engine or a Saltwater engine? Anyway, happy holidays and Happy New Year! Stay Safe! and don't get too close to the blades of the engine my father had to get something(Which was located right by the blades) and almost got his hand cut off but he just deep sliced it but he's fine right now though! Bear that in mind about Safety.
Hey! Just bought an excursion 5 intex inflatable. Saw a comment about them popping and going down ( frightening! ) Is the boat quite sturdy when you are on the water, cant really find a review anywhere, but pictures show it with 5 people on board. Has it served you well?
@BuckFastZombie hey man, they are great boats and no they don't pop. i have an excursion 4 and took the thing all over the place from big lakes to small waterways. i run a 30lb thrust and I have never had a whole punctured in mine.
I am planning to get the sevylor fish hunter and a minn kota trolling motor. Do I need to buy the MinnKota Trolling Motor Power Center? Does the motor include a battery?
I have this boat and it would take a lot more than a hook to puncher it. I just purchased a MInn Kota 30 lb thrust for mine and a Sears die hard marine deep cycle battery and a power station case for the battery and the mounting kit for the boat...I'm waiting for the mounting kit to arrive this Tuesday. I have an old lid to a large cooler I'm going to use as a base for the battery to sit on...I hope this adventure works out for me...
I was wondering how a 14 ft jon boat would work with this motor ?? I did find a Minn Kota that was 82 lbs thrust but it would require 2 batteries run in series for 24 volts. It would be insane tho and sounds like it would be fun as shit
hey looks like a good vid. I just got the intex 5 for a steal of a price. 89 dollars. :) brand new. I can't wait to take it out on the lake. I'm looking to buy a 55lb motor for it. Its not going to haul ass on the lake, but will help keep the day fun and relaxing.
Thanks for the great notes. I just purchased an excursion 5 and a minn kota maxxum 55 based on the video and feedback. One question (initially posted by medallo41) that hasn't been answered..."where do i put a battery in an inflatable boat (Excursion 5 with no battery pouch). isn't too heavy? do i need to put something below it or something?
yes, the inflatable bottom is very durable, but the most care should be taken. I advice you to put a light piece of wood, or a thick piece of cardboard under the battery. What you want to do is make the wood/cardboard piece larger than the battery itself, to more evenly spread out the weight of the batery a little more efficienly. Now dont go buying the REALLY heavy batteries if you dont have a floorboard, which you can make by buying marine plywood cutting it into 2 or 3 parts, wraping
wraping it in that plastic covering often used in airports to wrap luggage. After this step has been done, you could staple marine or outside carpet onto it. OR you could just take the easy way and buy the floorboard. Again, make sure you have something underneath the battery, these boats are very durable, yet extreme care should be taken in order to prolonge its lifetime. Thanks, and if you have any questions please ask.
There are 101 lbs of thrust motors out there, these are usually used for saltwater fishing, not freshwater, but water is water so whereever you want to use it would be fine. Now, you wouldnt want to put one of these on one of these inflatable boats. They are usually, if not all the time 36 volts, and really expensive, think $900+. You need a BIG deep discharge battery if not two.
I have had my Excursion 5 person for a week. Unfortunately my motor is a min kota 101 lb thrust, too much thrust too heavey, and too many batteries for this boat. It pulls down the back of the boat an the motor ends up titled under the boat. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has tried a 101 lb thrust on an excursion 5 with success or should I just give it up already.
he doesnt respond much, but i happen to have just bought my battery last night for the same exact boat and motor, if you have a Sears near you, i'd reccomend a - Diehard Marine Deep Cycle battery, 200 min. Reserve Capacity, 115 Amp at 20 hr. rate, excellent price, i got it for $104.99. This battery will last me over 2 hours on one charge, ( not using it continously and on highest speed)
Thank you very much for the response. I am debating between Sevylor HF360, Seahawk II, and the Excursion 5. What I like about the E 5 is that it is wider and looks for spacious and of course the lower price. But what I am concerned with is the material it is made of. The other two, especially the seahawk II, I believe are made of tougher material.
What will your response be to what I stated above? Are you overall satisfied with the boat and the motor?
Alright, read carefully, I'll compare HF and E5 for you, E5 = wider, cheaper, tough PVC
HF360= less wide, more expensive, you have to buy the "boat boot" and oars thats $90 total. The motor mount is also $10 more. I'd say get rid of the 360, go with the excursion or seahawk, if your concerned with price, then by all means go with E5, but durability, is all up to but i wouldnt get the HF360, in my opinion, but hope that helped, and the motor is great! Have any more questions comment me back :)
Thank you for the response. I had my heart set on the E5 and you comments just convinced me. I found the battery you suggested on sears website and will stop by the local store to purchase one. How do you figure out that this battery will last you >2hrs? ...I am also considering other Endura motors. Now, about the charger. Can you use any kind or are there specific parameters I should look for? Any model suggestions?
Well, divide 55 lbs for example, divided by the amp hours, say 115 for the one i reccomended, 55/115, will last over 2hours on a 55lbs thrust and running continuosly
I have a Sevylor Super Caravelle. Its 11 feet long. I am looking to buying a 30 lb thrust trolling motor over at bass pro s, and the battery. But what kind of battery do i need, or shold i say, the one that last the longest? and my other question is. where do i put a battery in an inflatable boat. isn't too heavy? do i need to put something below it or something? and what about the charger, or can i just go to an autoshop close by where they have this machine to charge batteries? PLease TELL ME
i do have a quaetion and hopefully you could answer it. Im debating between a Sevylo 11" Super Caravelle, an Intex Excursion 5, and an Intex Mariner 4. I want something durable, confortable, something I could take to the beach and to the lake. I am willing to pay up to 330 which is the price for the mariner. Which one do you recommend the most and second most. thanks, and anything i should know you can always tell me.
you said you already had a super caravelle..... no doubt, go with the marier 4, if your not getting a motor, not only does the mariner have a hardbottom floor, ir has stronger material than both of those. If you buy a motor and want something dependable, no doubt go with the intex excursion 5. i am very pleased with mine
yes i gave the caravelle to my cousin who came to visit me from chicago. I was debating over if i shouldjust buy another one, or another kind. But thankyou, though, hope you have fun in the water@!!
could u please tell me whats the name of the brand for the motor and also the model. i have an excursion 5 and im looking for a suitable motor. cheers
Hey I just got this boat, thinking about getting a motor, would you rec this motor? also where did you get your mounting kit? I was wondering if I could just make one myself.
obviously i'm not the poster of this vid, but i know a lot of people who make their own mounting kits for these inflatables. i wouldn't, cuz i'm not that crafty with tools, but it has been done and it's possible. i saw a guy who did one for a sevylor for about 9 dollars worth of lowe's materials. the mount he would have had to buy was 50 bux.
but i spent like 39 bucks on mine and to save 30 dollars and go through the hassle of making one is not worth it to me, though. If you are handy, I guess it could be fun. I prefer to get out there and relax.
What type of batery did you buy? Isn't there also cost of the motor mount? I just took my Excursion on the water rowing it, but I think I'll need a motor to get some good fishing.
I have never actually run out of battery. I use a 125 amp hour deep cycle and it will go on high speed for a log log time, 2 or 3 hours I assume.
Warning: the battery is heavy and will need to be placed on the cushion of the boat so as to not puncture the bottom chamber. This boat was not really "designed" to have a 50 pound battery in it.

I have an old lid to a large cooler I'm going to use as a base for the battery to sit on...I hope this adventure works out for me...

do you think that if you acedentaly poke the boat with a hook or something it would pop

Can you recharge the battery?
villainousturtle 2 years ago
Yes you can recharge the battery hahaha. If you couldn't you'd have to spend 150 bucks on a battery every week!!! You just need a charger.

i have that same boat. how did u mount a trolling motor to it
brendanwaas 2 years ago

One question (initially posted by medallo41) that hasn't been answered..."where do i put a battery in an inflatable boat (Excursion 5 with no battery pouch). isn't too heavy? do i need to put something below it or something?
noahasalzman 3 years ago
yes, the inflatable bottom is very durable, but the most care should be taken. I advice you to put a light piece of wood, or a thick piece of cardboard under the battery. What you want to do is make the wood/cardboard piece larger than the battery itself, to more evenly spread out the weight of the batery a little more efficienly. Now dont go buying the REALLY heavy batteries if you dont have a floorboard, which you can make by buying marine plywood cutting it into 2 or 3 parts, wraping
medallo41 3 years ago
wraping it in that plastic covering often used in airports to wrap luggage.

One question: Do they make motor mount motors that put out 100 lbs of thrust? If so, what kind of voltage do they require?
theshipman 3 years ago
There are 101 lbs of thrust motors out there, these are usually used for saltwater fishing, not freshwater, but water is water so whereever you want to use it would be fine. Now, you wouldnt want to put one of these on one of these inflatable boats. They are usually, if not all the time 36 volts, and really expensive, think $900+. You need a BIG deep discharge battery if not two.
medallo41 3 years ago
I have had my Excursion 5 person for a week. Unfortunately my motor is a min kota 101 lb thrust, too much thrust too heavey, and too many batteries for this boat. It pulls down the back of the boat an the motor ends up titled under the boat. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has tried a 101 lb thrust on an excursion 5 with success or should I just give it up already.
nabgilby 3 years ago
can I ask you where you got your Excursion 5, or where I could get it other than the internet, like a store.
medallo41 3 years ago
I got it from the internet, amazon in fact. Couldn't find it in a store.
nabgilby 3 years ago
What kind of battery do you have? How long does it last you on different speeds? Thanks
KarenchikJan 3 years ago
he doesnt respond much, but i happen to have just bought my battery last night for the same exact boat and motor, if you have a Sears near you, i'd reccomend a - Diehard Marine Deep Cycle battery, 200 min. Reserve Capacity, 115 Amp at 20 hr. rate, excellent price, i got it for $104.99. This battery will last me over 2 hours on one charge, ( not using it continously and on highest speed)
dcataldo1 3 years ago
Thank you very much for the response. I am debating between Sevylor HF360, Seahawk II, and the Excursion 5. What I like about the E 5 is that it is wider and looks for spacious and of course the lower price. But what I am concerned with is the material it is made of. The other two, especially the seahawk II, I believe are made of tougher material.
What will your response be to what I stated above? Are you overall satisfied with the boat and the motor?
Thank you very much in advance.
KarenchikJan 3 years ago
Alright, read carefully, I'll compare HF and E5 for you, E5 = wider, cheaper, tough PVC
HF360= less wide, more expensive, you have to buy the "boat boot" and oars thats $90 total. The motor mount is also $10 more. I'd say get rid of the 360, go with the excursion or seahawk, if your concerned with price, then by all means go with E5, but durability, is all up to but i wouldnt get the HF360, in my opinion, but hope that helped, and the motor is great! Have any more questions comment me back :)
dcataldo1 3 years ago
Thank you for the response. I had my heart set on the E5 and you comments just convinced me. I found the battery you suggested on sears website and will stop by the local store to purchase one. How do you figure out that this battery will last you >2hrs? ...I am also considering other Endura motors. Now, about the charger. Can you use any kind or are there specific parameters I should look for? Any model suggestions?
Thanks a lot for your help.
KarenchikJan 3 years ago
Well, divide 55 lbs for example, divided by the amp hours, say 115 for the one i reccomended, 55/115, will last over 2hours on a 55lbs thrust and running continuosly
dcataldo1 3 years ago
Enudras are excellent, great quality, i reccomend 55 lbs youll be happier with more speed

PLease TELL ME
medallo41 3 years ago
i do have a quaetion and hopefully you could answer it. Im debating between a Sevylo 11" Super Caravelle, an Intex Excursion 5, and an Intex Mariner 4. I want something durable, confortable, something I could take to the beach and to the lake. I am willing to pay up to 330 which is the price for the mariner. Which one do you recommend the most and second most. thanks, and anything i should know you can always tell me.
medallo41 3 years ago
you said you already had a super caravelle..... no doubt, go with the marier 4, if your not getting a motor, not only does the mariner have a hardbottom floor, ir has stronger material than both of those. If you buy a motor and want something dependable, no doubt go with the intex excursion 5. i am very pleased with mine
dcataldo1 3 years ago
yes i gave the caravelle to my cousin who came to visit me from chicago. I was debating over if i shouldjust buy another one, or another kind. But thankyou, though, hope you have fun in the water@!!

thnks, i will... but whatever suits you is the one you should get

Hey I just got this boat, thinking about getting a motor, would you rec this motor? also where did you get your mounting kit? I was wondering if I could just make one myself.
luck37 3 years ago
obviously i'm not the poster of this vid, but i know a lot of people who make their own mounting kits for these inflatables. i wouldn't, cuz i'm not that crafty with tools, but it has been done and it's possible. i saw a guy who did one for a sevylor for about 9 dollars worth of lowe's materials. the mount he would have had to buy was 50 bux.
afivestartragedy 3 years ago 2
but i spent like 39 bucks on mine and to save 30 dollars and go through the hassle of making one is not worth it to me, though. If you are handy, I guess it could be fun. I prefer to get out there and relax.

That was cool!!!! how fast do you think you were going? how much was you boat and where did you get it? how many lbs will it hold?
Graybunch 3 years ago
Amazon. Boat:$125,
Dick's. Motor $165 (with rebate),
Holds up to 1000lbs
and speed was about walking speed
MizDaWizDaMiz 3 years ago
What type of batery did you buy? Isn't there also cost of the motor mount? I just took my Excursion on the water rowing it, but I think I'll need a motor to get some good fishing.

120ah deep cycle
MizDaWizDa 3 years ago
I have never actually run out of battery. I use a 125 amp hour deep cycle and it will go on high speed for a log log time, 2 or 3 hours I assume.
Warning: the battery is heavy and will need to be placed on the cushion of the boat so as to not puncture the bottom chamber. This boat was not really "designed" to have a 50 pound battery in it.
