Huh? I'd say the pre Unity Valiant books are certainly worth something. Harbinger #1 goes for some big money to this day. Ditto those early Rai books (well not as much as Harbinger but more like 10-15). After Unity they went more mainstream and print runs skyrocketed, thus there is no scarcity and no demand.
@bek12 It's sort of hard to gauge with the whole CGC grading silliness. Either way isn't the relative cheapness now of early Valiant books (compared to say 1993) a good thing? Oh, and I used to quite like Triumphant Comics back in the day, but those really are worth nothing now. I have some Lightning as well but don't recall much about them.
@Cabbageboy316 True, I am not really thinking about CGC (never got into it, myself). Regardless, they're great reads with quality storylines. I liked Trimphant, too--especially Chromium Man. :) Lightning was bad, bad, bad. I had a guy tell me over the phone before I ordered that they have "the story of Valiant with the art of Image". So I bought, and bought hard, but they were craaaaap. "Story of a 9th grader and art of a 5th grader" is more like it!
@bek12 Yeah the other day I was looking at some old issues and found various Lightning books such as Bloodfire, Perg, and Judgment Day. They weren't especially good but I recall them at least being a bit more coherent than the average Image book. Triumphant was kind of a jobber version of Valiant, but I think they had one too many teams for their own good. They didn't really need both Riot Gear AND Scavengers. Dr. Chaos was a decent book though.
@bek12 As you know when you say comic books people think many different things. Some like Archie. Some Disney. Most love Independant Companies or Marvel or DC. I buy collect and sell it all. I constantly test what sells on Ebay. So what are some of your best comics that you collect?
@funster13 Well, I don't really collect comics anymore, although I'll find a decent graphic novel maybe once or twice a year that I enjoy. I like the classics that everyone has read: Dark Knight, Kingdom Come, the Byrne/Claremont X-Men, the early Valiants, Superman: Secret Identity, The Golden Age, etc. Back when I bought comics on a regular basis, I remember buying JSA and Strangers in Paradise, and there was a lot more, but my memory fails me. :)
@bek12 These are what I have left from selling so many copies it would boggle your mind. Stuff sells that is not at ebay. I have for over 40 years thought some things would never have value and was surprised when they did. I sell mainly EC's and Comic art. Marvel Tales is a reprint series and it sells well. Things sell cyclically. How well do image comics sell. I was stupid to buy a complete set in high grade for $200 just before they stopped selling
@bek12 Yes many of them like Magnus and Solar I actually read. I don't have a complete collection but I have a couple boxes of the early ones. Some guy on Ebay seems to sell a lot. I bet they sell differently in various areas of the Country.
