Hi all, i'm italian, i was 15 when Freddie made the astonishing 1985 season winning 14 races in 250 and 500.
But he was also a mistery. What happened in spain 1st race of 1986? He retired with a false excuse and since that time he disappeared. I suspect a panick attac. In 1988 tried with yamaha agostini team, but was awful, in my opinion he tried tu cure his panick attacks but was only able to restart racing, far from being the old Freddie. Is anyone aware of FS' eventual psychologic problems?
He can't show his face @these events anymore. Not after he burned so many good people w/his defunct riding school. He ultimately failed the sport that did so much for him...
Ben Spies has a lot to learn from this man when it comes down to paddock manners and conducting himself with his fans. freedie has always made time for his followers and look how they love him, after all this time. a fine man.
I have to add, better than normal. I went to school with him at "Grawood" in Keithville, La. He was the nicest most humble person I think I have ever known. He is the kind of person we wish all of our heros were. In spite of everything going on his life he remained a normal kid playing sports and being part of our school. Normal that is except his attitude and christian demeanor were better than anyone else I've known. Probably not a better person on this planet to admire than Fast Freddie
Frederick Burdette Spencer jr.... 'nuff said. When you look back, you are truly amazed just how much talent both sides of the pond produced in that era. How I miss those trans-atlantic challenge races.
Spencer was forced to retire due to tendonitis not psychological problems.

I know freddie is a real down to earth guy, as he always has been,
But the these people at Spa act like they never seen a person before,
I mean its one thing to have him sign his name to a book
but not to crowd around him like he cant even get away,
and on top of that be totally impatient for an autograph,
I mean sheesh, Hes got other things to do than sign autographj's all day,
I mean,,, Give the man a break,
