The Heaviest Bat ever used in Major League Baseball

I thought Babe Ruth used a 52 ounce bat? Im not for sure but thought I read it once.

@psmith62591 Ruth`s bats usually weighed in the 42-44 ounce range(36 inches in length).He did order and received a shipment of two 54 ounce Louisville Sluggers,but he never ordered that weight ever again according to Hillerich & Bradsby.Oddly enough(maybe not so oddly),I`ve yet to come across any record of a game used Edd Roush bat weighing over 40 ounces going up on auction.As a matter of fact,one was listed as weighing 38 ounces.

I just wish I was older at the time to really appreciate who and what he was to the game of baseball. Almost took it for granted I think...Anyway, to answer your question, there isnt a regulation on the weight of a bat, only its length.

I was related to Edd while he was alive, was fortunate to meet him and see him on a yearly basis every Easter Week in Bradenton, FL. (spring training time)

My G-ma lived next door to him, so we would get to sit around & talk with him to hear his amazing stories, wear his World Series Ring, take many photos which I cherish to this day, and just being in his presence was a great time.

No amensupremera, to answer your question, Edd did'nt go to the plate trying to swing for the fence as the majority of MLB player's do in today's game. He went to the plate to create scoring opportunities or to bring in runners already on without leaving them standing. One of the reasons why he batted over .300 for 11 STRAIGHT SEASONS & 13 TOTAL of his 18 seasons playing!

That is unheard of nowadays.

Are bats that heavy banned nowadays or is it just preference that nobody would want a bat that heavy. Like what are the regulations on Major League bats?
