What is up with people. This is a video celebrating the work of a highly talented artist, and yet everybody, except goreombola, has to start bringing in race and politics. If his work concerned race or politics then fine, but they're just exceptional maritime paintings. It doesn't matter if he came from Armenia, Mongolia or outer space; why can't people just admire his work ?
His ancestors(HAivazian or Aivazian) moved to South Poland in18c. and named themselves the Haivazovskys. They lived very near Ukrainian city Lviv where his father and his brothers were born and lived . His father learned him to play the violin and to sing Ukrainian songs which once he performed in the concert in St Petersburg.
I've seen Aivazovsky's paintings some time long ago and they are just impressive to look at. They are just massive and huge. And I've heard that he didn't use any models or reference points when painting. That he painted images from the back of his mind. If this is true then I can safely assume that he truly was the greatest painter in the world.
these paintings are very nice, but I understand that they are all a trick to make people become COMMUNISTS ! if you look at them too much next thing you will be wanting is free medical care for every one!!! :)
He is not Russian He is Armenian Sea Painter his real name is HOVHANES AIVAZYAN, but he spend his life in Russia and Turkey, so he changed his name to Ivan Aivazovsky
@arammasiv23 Yeah like all us Armenians, why he changed his name I dunt know, like all us Armenians, he does amazing things, but does it in a way, that its a fuckin struggle every day jus to get acknowledgement hes Armenian!
Ayvazovsk iy gives full of colours and vivid more realistic seascapes.....great painter- he painted a few canvases for sultan Hamid palace in Kostandnupolis(Stanbul) and Sultan gave him Madjidie medal BUT BECAUSE OF MASSACRES AND GENOCIDE OF ARMENIANS BY TURKS IN 1909-1915 HE THREW that medal and all the money from sultan into the see...and painted armenian massacres in TRABZON
@HaydukofKilikia Can you find the Massacre paintings ? Where are they? Some speaks about them but no image seen yet. Besides I don't think that Aivazovsky a great painter, has something to do with this ideology as his ideology. Your lobbying on this issue even using the art is just show people how manipulating it is to use the art. Being a minority is Armenians problems today. But if the war resulted against Turks no Genocide will be claimed. Hope you prosper in your homeland.
there was a survey couple of months ago (date is not important) asking russians who they conside as "friends" of Russia Armenia was the 5 or 6th place for them how sad
Well, nice to see that someone from Turkey appreciates Armenian painter from Russia...but Ivan Aivazovsky whose real name is Hovhannes Aivazyan rejected Turkish Sultan's medals after the first wave of Turkish massacres on Armenians...
he was a big patriot for Armenia as u can see from my video abt him and it is not fair to make video abt him presenting him as Russian...he has paintings with singed in Armenian
Yes maybe you are right, as we said; we don't care about his nationality. Half Russian, half Armenian then.. Not only one.. If we say him "Armenian painter", somebody comes up and say "no, he is Russian!". Then again.. This is politic!
There is no politics in it at all. He is Russian Armenian or Russian painter with Armenian origin but no way just Russian which doesn't represent him...
Sad . . . what if he had been a French, or British, or Italian painter - could you have appreciated his talent and beauty without fighting over political heritage? The arts are supposed to transcend borders.
The only sad part is to commit genocide on the Armenians and make us be scatterd all over the world where all others will claim all famous Armenians...
He was a great patriot of Feodossia and Krym (Crimea) 1st of all. I read his book. But his 1st most unforgettable life experience he considered meeting Pushkin.
As u have seen from my video he was equally a patriot for Crimea where he was born and Armenia where his roots are from. He has done equally much for both countries/nations but Armenian part is always omitted in Russian books. His collection is also in natioanl Gallery of Armenia signed in Armenian, Matenadaran has his letters to Cathalicos of Armenia in Armenian language and he asked to be burried in Armenian cemetry in his native Feodossia and the writtings there r both in Russian and Armenian.
Levitan was Jew, Bagration was Georgian, Lermontov had highlanders roots, Aivasovski was Armenian... Pushkin has a part of black blood. What can I say? Russia is a great country!:)))
A real highly talented artist

Oh, Aivazovsky
Ukrainians are also proud him. :)

His father learned him to play the violin and to sing Ukrainian songs which once he performed in the concert in St Petersburg.
And the Crimea now is a part of Ukraine.

Well, we don't care about Ivan's nationality but his works and art. We believe this is not art-related people's business. This is politic!
