Loving or liking someone a year younger than you is not illegal. There is no LAW against people being in love. There has to be a restriction set for protection as you said, against people at a major age difference (5-10 years)... You can love someone and show them you care without sex, I'm in australia and the age of consent is 16 unless the person is over 18 then charges can be pressed according to parents but who would press charges?... Love is not surrounded by sex.

And if you go back in History (and Time), you'll learn that people got married at ages like 14 or 15. The "ladies" were taught at early ages how to cook, clean, and take care of the house. While the "men", if they were lucky, got up to a 7th (maybe 8th) grade education. Due to the fact that they had to work, which in that time period was very common. There was no "laying up" under mom and dad till you were 22 and finished college. Views/laws have changed a lot about this subject over time!

Well, there are laws that the State governs about the age of consent. Texas (my state) changed their state law for the age of consent from 18 to 17. The location where I live is on the border of both the state of Texas (of course) and Arkansas! However, Arkansas (strangely enough)has a age limit of 18 for consent. So, this means one city block could be the only thing between you and a charge. Strange? That's politics for ya! (PS Love the bobby pin)
