What a fantastic match. I'd give it about 4 3/4 stars. The right guy won, but Tenryu wound up looking strong by kicking out of the legdrop and the axe bomber. And who knew Hogan could wrestle??? Absolutely terrific.

Totally agree with you! Hogan knows he can't bring that superman shit to Japan. He Always up's his game in the Far east. check out his match with Hansen and Great Muta. Tenryu is one of my favorites as well. Dude is still working (decently) at his age! Amazing!

Hogan rules. If you've seen his NJPW work from the 80's or ever caught a house show in his legendary mid 80's WWF Championship reign against the likes of "Cowboy" Bob Orton or Don"The Magnificent" Muraco you might agree that next to the Undertaker, and possibly Brody, he's the best in ring big man ever.

Hogan shouldn't job... The WWF is paying these guys to what make there Champ look bad... Hogan was a beast and he didn't Wrestle like this in America because all we wanted to see was Hogan Hulk up and hit the leg drop.

Consider first, the fact that SWS was on the rise and Tenryu needed a win to earn credibility.

Second, the classic combination that he used in the US couldn't work on those days in Japan, Hogan knew how to satisfy any crowd, US, Canada, Japan. That wouldn't look well from somebody that beat Inoki with a more mat-scientific wrestling and a more credible finisher.

Hogan was a face in America. Here, in Japan the fanbase is more knowledgeable about pure wrestling, so he incorporated more moves. That, and he was the heel, Tenryu was the face.

the biz is different in japan than in the US. in the US, it's all about the show and not enough about the wrestling. In Japan, they care about the actual wrestling.

Wow!  Thanks a lot! I have been searching for this match since 1992, when I saw a picture of Hogan giving Tenryu an enzugiri on the cover of Pro Wrestling Illustrated. I couldn't believe at the time Hogan could actually get up that high.

DAMN! Hogan at his very best. Looks like this guy wasnt gonna sell anything Hogan was dishing out. I could see Hogan looking a lil worried towards the end so he really had to rough him up for the finish. This kinda stuff was common where the japanese wrestlers refused to do the job midmatch and turned into an all out shoot. Thats why Vince didnt really like doing these type of matches. Now who says Hogan cant wrestle needs an ax bomber up his ass...
