@TheTrinigod The guy cutting drum is Lenny Kumar, who is tassa legend Mr. Boodoo Singh's eldest son and also the former lead cutterman for the Booodoosingh tassa group. Since 2004, Lenny formed his own tassa band and academy known as the "Trinidad & Tobago Sweet Tassa Band", featured in this video are a few of his students/band members.

actually in south of india with their "tassa" they play all these beats...this punjabi beat and mostly bhajan and kerhawa...so punjabi beat in tassa is not new but new in trinidad since we are mostly dolok derived culture...

in 1992 all tassa competition where only based on original tassa hands. there was nothing bout CREATIVE PIECE.... only 4 yrs they startd creative pieces.. so therefore Sylvan Bharat didnt play dat as no creative piece. so u only tlkin wah ppl say

That creative piece that Lenny made in the beginning of this clip is called the "LENNY HAND", other tassa men already kidnapping it, and they not even playing it right! They can attempt to play it, but it is so intricate and detailed that it won't sound the same....HAHAHA

Wow Bro. The "LENNY HAND"? I will admit Lenny is possibly Trinis best PERFORMING drummer. But the hand he is playing is an actual Punjabi beat that is played all the time by Punjabis for weddings. Yeahh you right, but he is the one who decided to compose it for tassa in Trinidad, just like how he did the bhangra hand. He also have so many new hands he created, but didn't play them yet. And soundcheck is right, he didn't play the full version for the competition.

Yeah, I would agree that he is Trinidad's best cutterman! It was he and his father who led the original family group to win the most tassa taal awards in Trini, but for him to create a new group with these individuals having no background in tassa, and leading them to win the championship is remarkable, it shows that lenny is a leader and a true musician!
