Protip for Latin: Vs are pronounced as Ws, All Cs are pronounced as K, Es are pronounced 'eh', 'I's are pronounced as long Es, and 'ju' is 'you'

He should've used his archers more. They have a pretty good range and your troops had a lot of low armored soldiers. After exausting the arrow supply, he should've placed his superiour troops in a thin long line (they could handle it) and use his elite cavalry to first drive off your weak mounted troops, and then hammer your infantry from behind. I know this is all pretty obvious stuff, that's why I'm so surprised by his blunders. Anyway, good job crushing the elites.

Wow, I'm surprised. I normally fight with all my troops spread out in a single line with perhaps one unit in reserve in an attempt to envelope the enemy forces. And every time I try the three tiered line, I lose to the enemy because they try to envelope me with the single line (except missile troops).

One question I do have, is: Is there any notable advantage to having your troops in "defensive" mode, where they maintain formation? Every time I try it against the AI, 1vs1 unit, d-fence loses

@EnslavedAndOppressed I always find I do better with the three tier line because if my first line fails, then I still have another line to keep battling the enemy which is significantly weakened. If you don't want to be surrounded, use your cavalry to stop any units trying to flank you and then bring in your units on the flanks of the second line to attack your enemy on your flanks.

Your opponet made a classical mistake, he tried to flank before the main battle began, which allowed your triarii to kill them. He should have waited for his urban cohorts to tie up your infantry and then massacred your cavalry and flanked.

Prince used the basic legion organisation.... First the velites with light spears and n armour, then the hastati armed with pilum sword and protected by iron parts stuck to leather armour, then the principes armed like the hastati but more experienced, and finnaly the veterans, the triarii, heavilly armoured. The flanks are only defended by a few of the roman light cavalry of the time, as they were specialized in infantry, so it wasnt that hard to sandwich them like Hanibal did! Good strategy!

For everybody that is questioning the strange legs of the roman legions, it happened to me to when I downloaded the 1.2 patch onto RTW after playing it substancially. To avoid that problem uninstall all traces of RTW then reinstall it and before doing anything (even the tutorial) install the 1.2 patch. That method worked for me every time. If you have a newer version like 1.5, the peg legs shouldn't happen at all. they only seem to be linked to the 1.2 patch.

All the units before the Gaius Marius reforms in the campaign are premarian. Hastati, Principes, Roman Archers etc... They are effectivly early period units and are not as powerfull as say legionary or urban cohorts. =)

@KCDK755 ye you are right i think, blues (scipii) have always wanted power at an amazing cost, Reds (juili) were new and rose to power taking over the blues and greens, greens were after the blues and before the reds nd the purples (SQPD) were religious and protected ceaser, so yes the SQPD did protect ceaser but the reds took over, but it could of gone any way...
