I can read 150 pages at the most, before the battery is empty and the ereader has to be reset because it freezes. One of my most dissapointed buys of the last year.
I wonder when the first device comes made by an amateur. There is a lot of people that know electronics. World will soon be pretty cooler, just wait ;)
Looks okay, but you might want to try at least matching your competition's prices, since you're not matching the features. This thing is so overpriced!
It should have a rocker switch to cycle through page view sizes. Having pop up menus on small devices is annoying. Oh, and it's too small for me, the aged, read too many books in law school and life, and now can squint but so long at tiny print.
Please shows a pdf file from physical review letters or other science journal, which is letter sized and has mathematical formula. If it looks good, i will buy one for sure.
Yes, please, show us a PDF with images! Graphs, tables, some images. If you have a good support for regular ebooks/magazines in PDF, my plans to get a kindle will be immediately aborted..
It does not support Greek characters unless they are embedded. You can embed them using the Foxit PDF Creator that comes with it. It can read A4 size.
I dont really know if they are embedded or not. I can read though the greek pdfs on my PC using your software. Would it be possible to send you a greek newspaper in pdf to check it out (Charakters and readability)????If yes where???
Look it up, hardware wise Foxit has no control, they licence the hardware, but make their own software. My question is although this device supports PDF on it's own, what differences and/or features will your Linux software provide for us? Since you also included your software with the JETBOOK to read PDFs, what in this model will you be able to add that hasn't already been added? I've reserved one, but would like to know. THANKS!
Foxit doesn't have anything to do with the hardware other than being licenced to program and "Re-release" it with their own modified linux distribution. This is a Netronix EB-600. All the hardware specs are on their site. The CYbook uses the same reader.
Will I be able to annotate on this device? And if not, then are you planning (and when) on releasing the version that would include this feature? that would be so helpful for people like me who do a lot of reading for their research
Well that's neat and all, but nothing new. My JetBook can do that without any problem. What I, and probably a lot of others, would like to see is an example of the PDF reflow capability of the eSlick reader. That's the only real selling point of the eSlick IMHO.
This is actually what I've been looking for: an e-book reader that can gracefully handle pdf files. I'm not concerned about its inability to handle other formats; just about any file can be easily translated into pdf. Besides, there are a ton of great free e-books out there in pdf already (see the Planet eBook website, for example.)
Kindle does not handle pdf well; you need to e-mail them the pdf document first, and then for a fee they'll e-mail back a poor translation in their own format.
You folks need a better video if you are going to sell these! Don't hold it at an angle by hand - lay it flat, well lit and show it displaying pages from an actual book (layout optimized) - not just your crappy manual pages!
The fact that your reader only supports PDF and txt is the only reason I am not ordering one. Add support for RTF, EPUB, LIT, PPT, WOLF, DOC, CHM, PRC/MOBI, HTML, etc and you'd have a real winner. Your product is just a novelty - a one trick pony for viewing PDF files.
Why couldn't you produce a PDF that is optimized for the eSlick's screen and uses the exact screen size (without margins), so users don't have to zoom in and out?
In this case, trying to "emulate" a book in every way actually decreases usability of the device. Think about reworking the PDF...
Foxit will ship overseas. We will come out with the availability for countries soon.
There are more videos to come. This video came at a request of some people to show zooming of a normal PDF, in this case the user manual of Foxit Reader. Thanks for the suggestion to use a PDF without margins. We'll try to make a video of that soon.
Unfortunately that flash you are referring to is an issue with all devices that use e-ink displays, not just the eSlick. That's one of the things I love about the JetBook reader is that it uses an LCD display and does not have the annoying flash of e-ink.
Awsome! This is a Standalone PDF reader! This is the one function so many people complain about. Not everyone likes to be restricted and locked to a certian format. Even the amazon kindle requires you to "convert your PDF" in one way or another. Also the Sony doesn't allow you to zoom like is requird with some pdfs. This by far is the best of it's kind at this point in time. I'm going to preorder mine...When will this be available?
on the foxit site : "Due to an upgrade higher quality screen, the eSlick will be available around late February or early March. However, we can take pre orders now."

anything known about standby time / battery life?

Standby should be about 3 weeks and battery life is up to 8000 page turns.

Wow. This looks better than the Kindle which I hate.
So I guess if no annotation that means no ability to highlight or add notes. That is something that I really want.
vangelicmonk 3 years ago
Annotations are being worked on, but it won't be released in this first eSlick.

wow that menu is going to drive me crazy. Couldnt we have like a separate slide for zooming?

Unfortunately there is no touch screen on this device. We may(but not sure of the date) release a high end model with the ability to do annotations.

Are you saying you will buy a licence for the Netronix EB-900 eventually?

Mobileread may not get a unit until late January or early February. Obviously, they are high on the list to get one.
