Rubestein just knows how to connect the 3 most important body parts for playing the piano. He can connect his fingers (hands, wrists, arms, shoulder) with heart (emotions) and head ( knowledge of music)

I think that Rubinstein is the best, but i don´t like this performance, only with Beethoven I prefer Arrau.......Rubinstein the Greatest excep with this sonata :
Though Für Elise was one of the first pieces I learned, I can't even DREAM of playing it as Beethoven himself intended. Musical geniuses usually know how they want it to sound, but it's so hard to actually get that sound.(:

lmao, did u know Fur Elise is a grade 7 piece, i cant belive it, something as easy as that grade 7, one of my dads piano students is a lower than grade 1, hes kindergarden of music and he learned it, but i dont know why they would put it as grade 7, i find it to be a grade 4 piece, grade 5 maximum!
if you just play note by note, than Fur Elise is easier than grade one, but it would take another twenty years of practise before you can play it like it was composed by Beethoven!

we are all wasting our time watching and making comments about these guys. we should all be on our pianos right now. this is not going to make us play better.
well watching it we do learn interpretations from well established legends... Now i'm not saying we should copy it coz i'm a fan of self expression, but it wouldn't hurt to see other perspective in playing such piece... Now that makes us better!!!
This performance is stunning. I didn't think it could be improved until I heard his studio recording. Rubinstein possessed the ability to express the most raw emotions without histrionics or ego. This comes straight from Beethoven's tortured soul to your ears. Rubinstein's fingers are the medium. Appassionata is the message!
3 people didn't like the emotion stirred inside them when they heard this piece.

Thank you very much in advance.

Seriously guys? Seems that you are judging more his name rather than the real execution. The coda is simply terrible, no one note right.
My opinion cannot be anything else that pretty negative.

i cant believe this was his last concert, at the time he had few weeks to die, but he was still in incredible physical condition
BlazeKenny 11 months ago
@BlazeKenny Rubinstein lived another seven years, and didn't retire for another year.
This concert was billed as "the last recital for Israel," but it was not his last recital.

I think all you children should get back to practicing Fur Elise, and leave the Sonatas to the big boys...

Exactly. Simplicity and musicality have nothing to do with each other. Für Elise is simple, but far from easy if played well.

Arthur Rubinstein is just terrific.
He can even move people who don't like classical music.
For this recording, I think he really brings out the deepest emotion of Appassionata. So amazing and beautiful.
