My Spanish ancestors were early Californios. My grandfather was born at the San Garbiel Mission. They were "nobodies" but they WERE Californios and were here in the beginning of this great state. They were probably ranch-hands, not the wealthy land grant recipients.

Instead of "white people", use the term Anglo, to differ from the White Californios, since there were and still are White Mexicans (Spanish ancestry). If you're referring to Whites who stole the land from the Natives, then many of the Californios should be grouped with the Anglos as "genocidal people by nature".
