@MrMevaletodo Drilling would have not left as much material around the hole in that size stock - i.e. the result wouldn't be as strong. You can drift a 1" hole in 1" stock - something you could never do with a drill alone.
You can tell they are amateurs b/c no good smith says go go go go BS. The smith says good, or taps the anvil with his hammer one strike before the desired final blow. The striker can easily keep in time and does not have to listen to the showboater.
Thanks, it's good to know there are professional smiths out there who are much more advanced than me. Let me know where you live and I will come by and you can show me how it's done. The guy I am striking with here is also an amateur. Maybe he can come too.
Come to think of it. why don't you post a movie of your striking prowess so we can all learn how to do it right.
@tina2tits --There are smiths that work w/strikers in the way you described. Not all. A few of the best smiths call out for each strike. Why? Ask them. But if you call them pros or amateurs based solely on this you are a fool trying to play the expert. You aren’t
Spend years traveling the world seeking out the best shops to train in. Produce over two million dollars worth of forged ironwork. Then you might have a clue of what pro smithing really is. We have done this. What have you done?--Ash

I want to get into Blacksmithing. I want to make my own swords and armor but I don't know where to start. I live in a suburban neighborhood so I don't think I could have one in my back yard. How do i become an apprentice of a blacksmith? Should I get books on blacksmithing?
hey can you post lessons on how to blacksmith like how you get the ore and make the bars because i want to be a blacksmith and i really need the videos :)
im gonna come across as an ass but dude this isnt runescape. we dont get ore and make bars. we buy "bars" form a steel supplyer, and all we do is form it. some people build blast furnaces but its not that useful unless you want just iron(iron no longer has any practical use and thus is unavailable. all iron has had carbon added and been turned into steel.)
Just drill it, simple, fast and no GO, GO, GO jajaja... Good job by the way.
