If you complain about dissonant music...why the hell watch Eva? The "cheerful" score only adds to the cruel irony of the scene. It's supposed to make the viewer freak out and question what is happening.

Only an inexperienced child would think that. It's such an overused cliché that it detracts from the scene rather than adding to it. Using dissonant music only works if it's done well and to a very limited extent, but the latest film botched it completely.

The most obvious problem is the overuse. It's a one shot trick that should never be used more than once in any given series or movie, yet they somehow forced it in twice, and it wasn't very good. Hell, if I recall, they did it in End of Eva and the original series as well, using classical music in extremely violent scenes.

@Daermonical The Second film has PLENTY of epic orchestral tracks, like 'Fate', or 'Final Decision'. The only 'dissonant music' I recall was the one during the Bardiel incident and that was for artistic purposes.

Tsubasa Kudasai does NOT count since it's played in a ROMANTIC scene. The actual battle is accompained by a remix of the good old Unit 01 theme, the J-Pop doesn't set in untill the bastard's defeated and the girlfriend saving starts.

...there was not a single J-pop song in that movie. there was more latin-sounding-but-really-engl­ish songs like this, and there were two pieces of what I'm told are rather classic songs. One of which I believe was a lullaby, and neither of which were particularly pop like.

and even then, Eva likes to have its soundtrack not fit sometimes. Its kind of what it DOES.

Epic. They made so much awesome music for Rebuild. The original series' soundtrack was already pwnage, but they managed to make it even better. Expecially the new songs for the battles. The battles all became more epic. My favourite will always be the one that plays when Mari fights Zeruel, but this one is also impossibly epic
