that's it, fellas, you got that right! a REAL knife attack will come fast as hell, it will come repeatedly and most important: it will do so from 20 different directions with 20 strikes in under 30 seconds! trade your arm for your neck, make him slow with a strike to the head (or a brutal kick to the knee) and get the hell outta there!
I'm about to release a DVD, and... without explaining everything, we're wanting to help DISPEL "bullshit techs" regarding knife vs. unarmed, and a bunch of other things. And sadly, the internet is RIFE with garbage techs... techs shown SOLELY at "slow mo / walk through" speed... and generally with the attacker "halting all action" after the initial attack.
THIS would be the first vid I've seen that shows it like it CAN and WILL go down. The end.
This is as close to reality as one can get. Unarmed against a blade is a HORRIBLE strategy. Get an equal or better weapon if...if escape isn't possible. All that other crap is for the movies.
@ironbuddha1008 thats a very interesting point... we should do one against someone just grabbing and wailing away full force with one hand (w/ gloves and protective gear) and see what happens
@streetfightsecrets im not a mma fan anymore, the more its become mainstream the less interested i am (i watched the first ufc on vhs many years ago)what it did and contiue to show is that a basic skill set of western boxing (most ufc guys dont box well unlike a pro boxer) and muaythia knees, leg kicks is all they use of striking and basic clinch work ( bjj/wresting is complex) its simple quick to learn. i do study complex ma & takes longer but get something speacial, self defense must be simple
@ironbuddha1008 I hear you, MMA got steadily less interesting since back in the day when it was style vs style as opposed to this mma club vs that mma club - and yes what it has shown is some great and useful training concepts like the importance of developing attributes and simple but tried and tested strategies. And yes most (not all) mma guys couldnt box eggs their punching is so short ranged and shallow.
@streetfightsecrets this is very accurate doods, well done indeed, realistic. All the other tutorials showing guy#1 does this move real slow and guy#2 defends with some BS trap, throw nonsense. Total bullshit. As i said be fore someone intent on knifing you is going to be able to do it and you'll not see it coming, if you see it coming then the guy doesn;t really want to knife you period, elbows in hands up guard neck and spearhand to the eyes and run! Distance is key 2 life!
the thing is i think mace gel is illegal in the UK but i dont give a shit, no law is gonna stop me from protecting myself, if i get caught with it then so be it, ill just buy another lot the next day, spray the mace gel to the face, then run for your life, if you dont have mace gel, protect your body, if you can trap their arm, strike their eyes as hard as you can, dont care if you blind them for life, if they cant see they cant do shit
imo the best knife defence is something like mace gel i mean you can see these two going at it, if this was real they'd be dead simple as i dont care what all these martial art techniques show you, you cant predict where someone will attack you with their knife, and then grab it or disarm them in time, you just cant, if someone means to kill you they will be viscious and fast like these in the vid, you cant defend yourself properly, get some mace gel it also marks faces so the police can c them
@Brady2k10 old psot I kno, but the best defense against a knife attack is getting something between you and the attacker, like a car , a tree, anything to get distance and blocking. Then some nice 40 cal pistol rounds with Cor-Bon hi velocity ammo.
Place 2 in the chest and 1 in the brainpan in the lethal (T) area, ='s game over. pax aut bellum.
imo the best defence against a knife is awareness and escape, if you see someone coming at you, leg it, personally i carry around with me a small canister of mace gel (i live in london) in a rough area where stabbings are common so i thought fuck this im not getting caught off guard by anyone, mace gel is sticky when sprayed to the face, and when they rub it it burns their eyes, and goes into their skin causing burning, watery blurred vision, and its good.
I have done this sort of training back in the 1990's,we quickly realized that if you are up against a good knife fighter, our next stop was going to be the hospital .A good outcome in this situation was to get to the exit with Head, torso, and legs untouched and arms would be needing stitches.Tourniquet anyone?
Great video, that's about what I think it looks like. One time I saw a guy pull a big butcher knife on another guy. They knew each other so they talked it out. But the knifee pretty much gave up....he said "Just stab me man"
After watching some guys pretend knife duel, (fake knives of course) I decided to look around youtube for some good knife defense advice. Problem is, the majority of teachings are some impractical combo traps/disarms. Very glad I finally found some sound advice here. Main objective: run away. I like the tip about premptively pushing the head too. I didn't see anything about kicking. Would it be a good idea using legs for range or would the loss of balance be too risky?
@juliushlee nothing I write here or say on a video or that anyone says to you is going to beat first hand experience. It is well worth your time to get a fake knife (or make one we are using a peice of cardboard here) and just try these things out. I found kicking risk as it was easy to get your calf and achilles slashed. The combined force of your kick plus their slash could lead to some deep wounds I imagine, potentially rendering that limb useless. Try for yourself though.
i like this video because of its realism. i take Krav Maga and don't like that oftentimes the *assumption* is that an attacker will be clumsy or will drop the knife after being hit once.
what i've learned is that you have 3 choices. (1) RUN your ass off if you're alone. (2) find some sort of implement - barstool, bottle, even a heavy coat - to use to ward off the attacker. (3) get REALLY lucky and catch the knife arm in an underhook and dislocate his fucking shoulder.
@jofujenkins how is krav maga? i'm thinking of learning it. i'm fairly old (already 19), but would really like to take a martial arts for self defence and get back into shape. would you recommend it for surviving on the street?
@jofujenkins lmao ya I just always assumed it would be better to learn martial arts at an early age. but i'm going to take it then. might take some boxing with it too later on.
We do attacks like this in ju jitsu and its terrifying, despite us practising numerous techniques 99% goes out the window when it counts, its good though really drives home the main defence against knife whenever possible is to run and scream as loud as you can!
I think I read somewhere the fight is lost many times at the first slash where the shock of being cut and seeing your flesh carved open is simply too much for the average individual to handle.
I was harrassed for months by a guy I know a few years back. He knew I trained BJJ and Kali and was obsessed with proving how superior he was in every area, despite never having trained with me.He often bragged about his system of knife defense and I would urge him to just run away if he ever faced a blade, but he persisted and eventually "challenged" me to saying he could "stick the knife up my arse". That was it. We cut a section of broomstick and I repeatedly FUKKED HIM UP infront of EVERYONE
@streetfightsecrets Yeah, thing is I messed him up pretty bad,he wouldn't accept it,even after I wrecked his ribs and he was bleeding from his eybrow and a split lip(not badly, but bleeding). It was getting out of hand by the time I'd killed him twice and I ended up killing him around 15 to 20 times, before he finally accepted that his "master" was selling some bullshit.I had peace for about a month, then he started again saying his "master" had shown him what he did wrong and NOW he was ready!!
@Rapist87 just tell him cool, you believe him and youre glad he is ready - poking at someone with a broomhandle you could knock his teeth out or even damage an eye - just submit to his knife defense ninja mastery and let it go. Training with people who are mentally unbalanced is un ethical. Tell him your scared he might hurt you or whatever it takes to assuage his ego and save him the injury.
@streetfightsecrets This happened about 6 years ago and I just went back to ignoring him like I had been before the broomstick incident, and I only did that because he was being quite abusive about "sticking it up my arse" in front of alot of mutual friends and despite me trying to change the subject he persisted for a good 15minutes. In the end I got offended and decided to shut him up. I tell the story just to show how even when confronted with the truth of the blade, many still WANT fantasy
@Rapist87 ah yes I see now, you said in your first post "I was harrassed for months by a guy I know a few years back."
Well fantasy is so much more comforting than reality. Especially in this case which is if the knife is out and the guy is keen to stab you and he's in range you may very well die. Thats just the way it is.
This video proves what I was told by my teacher when training in martial arts years ago. No matter what you do you will get cut. But it is possible to subdue the attacker before you get fatally injured. But the best thing to do is run away.
excellent vidio on what really happens when opponent is going tp really cut you-got to get away or get ahold of the knife hand and then cripple the attacker by blinding him or hit throat and hit hand also with knuckles-its scary -oldsgtmajusmc
My best friend and I often practice knife attack counters based on a Japanese Jujutsu-derived style he once formally trained in. He often made it seem as though knife attacks were no big deal, which I routinely contested.
The next time we train, I'm going to abandon the slow, planned attacks and go for this relentless onslaught. Perhaps that will get him to better see what I always suspected; A determined knife attack is not an easy threat to mitigate.
well i just tried this out. With my mum. haha a 59 year old women. I gave her a rolled up letter. she used that as the knife. She killed me easy. It's funny cause in your head you think there is all sorts you will be able to do. You can visualize yourself catching their arm and getting the knife off them. But reality is a bit different.
Allthough I did try the punching in the face idea, (not a real punch obviously) and i'm quite sure that would work against a 59 year old women with a knife.lol
both of you are trained fighters though right? so you might have better luck defending yourself from a knife attack from someone who isn't a trained fighter. Maybe in this situation you would have been best to accept that fact you are gonna get stabbed but try and get one massive punch to the face.
after seeing this though you can see why so many people want to carry a knife just for self defence. I'm tempted to carry a rock. cause I don't have a hard punch
The best defence against knife attacker is to pull out a knife to. Or u can pull a gun as well. Or the last chance if u are a fast runner to get a hell away from there.
1:36 to 1:39. our boy in white just got fucking shish kebabbed. Fatally. Hopefully this video will tell people the best way to defend a knife is run the fuck away.
@jammylad393 the best / most helpful reply I can give is to say put on a a kneed pad/ cricket pad and get a plastic knife and test it for yourself mate (clue: if you are in range to kick you are in range to get stabbed)
@streetfightsecrets if he is lunging forward or he has his arm extended then yeh. I should have been more specific. I was thinking if he is just in the process of pulling out the knife or it is by his side. If its in his right hand go for his left knee cap with your right foot and vice versa to increase the distance. I'm not trying to act like big man but if it was me and a guy came squared up to me then put his hand in his pocket I wouldn't hesitate, just survival instinct... or leg it lol
@Mrjustinqqq Geez thats crazy! nope i dont have a problem shooting someone who threatens me with a knife. If hes threatening my life with deadly force then i have no reason to have mercy on him. if he was close i would just hip fire to avoid him cutting my hand or arm.
@Mrjustinqqq Yea i liked the "defanging the snake" mentality. Because ive noticed that most people try to use haymaker punches to the face or head, i think most untrained people would do the same type of attack with a knife. If you cut his hands or arms your pretty much taking away his weapons then you can finish him after he is "defanged". Hope i never have to fight a guy with a knife though, hopefully im carrying my 1911 if it happens, then i can just shoot him.
valid drill, but the attacker needs to gear up so the defender can throw some real strikes, as it is, the attacker can really stab, but the defender cannot throw realistic punches and kicks without hurting his training partner
Thanks for sharing this video guys. I did some knife drills in my Aikido class using markers and the girl I was defending myself from would have cut me to ribbons! If you can't run away, go for the attackers EYES with everything you've got.
I love this video. It's appalling how many people think that learning to knife-fight will keep you safe in any situation. Reality is, this is more likely to happen. Waiting for an attacker to attack you in a certain way so you can counter is ridiculous. There are many great knife fighters, I cannot lie, but I believe those moves, counters and finishes have little effect in a real fight. Thank you for posting this...
No i like this video, you have no idea how good some random guy with a knife is. Instead trying to be a hero or taking him on because i'm losing face, best believe i'm throwing a front snap kick and dipping first chance i get!
The way I see it, all the dudes in this video would be actually butchered if that was real knife? So where is defense here???? and then they say try to run? how to run if you are stabbed one hundred times?
@DaTaBASE3089 The point of the video is that being attacked by a knife isnt the game of trap slap pat a cake the way its presented in many videos. Its called "the reality of trying to defend against a committed knife attack" the reality demonstrated is that if the attacker is committed your going to get cut and stabbed to shreds. Show me a SINGLE youtube clip where the guys are going as fast or aggressive as we are and successfully defending. ANY defense works against a crap attack :)
@streetfightsecrets It really depends on the individual, of attacker and the one who defends himself. The speed they posses, strength etc... Well trained real aikido practitioner could with easy dismantle knife attacker. Dont try to say its not true, grandmaster of real aikido, teaches that same defense and tehniques I am talkin about to russian special forces, and many other special forces in the world. Basicly, its all in tehnique. If its good for special ops, then its good for everybody.
@streetfightsecrets if you are able to answer i would appreciate it alot. How does grappling and throwing the opponent to the ground work during these drills? i get the feeling of it being complete suicide because you would probably get stabbed pretty bad in the stomach if you would try to throw him off balance, but at the same time if you can get the opponent to the ground you would be able to kick him in the head which seems to be the only way to safely attack a man with a knife. thanks
only thing that matter in a knife situation...you need to forget about your hands..and focus on protecting your vital spot..no point havin an arm if your dead
ussualy the defenses are supposed to be against the first attempt, but yeah if you miss that you are fucked, also Ive seen a few where you are the agresor
Not trying to be smart just wondering about some of your training background.CQC,something more "traditional"? Always like to know how things develop and there background.Pm me if you like.I think your in the UK unfortunately I'm not , I would come to check out the instruction.
Continued: I do think that this is what to some degree knife defense is based on.Could be wrong.I personally think arts like aikido, yes aikido,(good footwork, efficient movement) arnis and silat JJ< BJJ, Military arts -Sambo, KM,,Defendu etc, have some viable ones. I mean what choice does one have?
Continued: I do think that this is what to some degree knife defense is based on. Could be wrong in all this though.I personally think arts like aikido, yes aikido,(good footwork, efficient movement) arnis and silat JJ< BJJ, Military arts -Sambo, KM,,Defendu etc, have some viable ones. I mean what choice does one have? No one bother with trite answers like" run away,or equalize with a weapon"...duh!
The point of this is pretty obvious, but I don't think theres quite as much denial as implied.Part of it is that I'm not sure that a knife attack would happen so anxiously and chaotic, the reason I think this is that I suspect many knifer's would be overconfident drunk or more cold blooded or not really wanting to kill someone, simply walking up and stabbing someone or showing intent and this could be a defenders chance, should he notice of course.
@danbau08 thats a lot of positive assumptions mate, I think its best to assume the worst... then anything less than that should seem easier by comparison
@streetfightsecrets Well I agree with assuming the worst and then as you say... Again Its just that you gotta start somewhere.I just don't believe at all that training has to always lightning fast or as chaotic as reality could be,don't even think it really makes sense.Even if every attack situation was like this It would seem better to train something and it is possible to consider and keep this kind of thing in mind while doing so.
@streetfightsecrets cont. This very thing was discussed on a filipino site I sometimes visit. Is knife defense really realistic? Anyway not much problem with this vid more just the general negative or trite comments one keeps hearing about pretty much on any effort on this subject.
@danbau08 rather than me give you a breakdown of my training background (what difference would that make to the subject at hand really?) why dont you just do the drill as its shown in the video and come to your own conlusions. you ask "is knife defense realistic" - mate it takes all of 5 minutes to test it for yourself! why take mine or anyone elses word for it, just test it yourself and see what happens- there is too much submission to authority in martial arts :) trust your own judgement
@streetfightsecrets Alright, just find it interesting and informative. Yes already have done such things as in your vid. Yes I agree there is too much submission to authority in MA, cult like sometimes.Seen this on a personal level, ridiculous really. Enough posting on your vids, should go train :)
@danbau08 your more than welcome to post on my vids, I just wanted to push the point that Im not out there on other peoples videos and sites trying to change the way people train - people are coming here, its interesting isnt it? and I think proves my point in a way:
i think people comment for one of two reasons: 1. as in your case you like the way Ive approached subject even if u might not agree with me or 2. it makes people feel insecure and they dont like it...
@danbau08 I don't make negative or trite comments on other peoples videos or systems or training, I genuinely do not care how people choose to train - people are coming to me and whinging on my video post that I'm being defeatist or too negative - Im a realist. Trappy Slappy Knife Defence is ego stroking dangerous B.S. - Avoiding getting attacked with a knife is not, training to survive being attacked is not - but in the training there MUST BE a genuine attack not just a game of pat a cake :)
@streetfightsecrets No you don't strike me that way, should have worded it more specifically, just see a lot of it in the comments sections of what seems fairly good or workable methods. I just think that some of these drills well are just that, drills, to help develop certain attributes. There are of course arguments about there value or the amount time spent on them, so it is .I do agree, sober business.
I dont know i would propably die in this situation coz knives and any blades just freak me out.I mean think about it.cold steel cuts your flesh.Rather die from a bullet.
WHERE IS YOUR OFFENSE? you need to be punching the attacker in his fucking face, eye gouging, groin attacks. Of course if all you are thinking about is defense you are gonna get cut the phuk up.
@akiibua WHERE IS YOUR VIDEO? show me dont tell me or you fade into the background noise... anyone can sound off about what "they would do" - funny how FEW people actually step up and demonstrate it though
Ok the point of the video is? Knife defense is just a bunch of BS and study street boxing instead? The video certainly shows how "effective" NOT knowing how defend is. Knife defense doesn't work? I don't know about that. But I do know an old man from my mother's home town in the Philippines who is a knife fighter who survived being ambushed on 2 occasions by armed assailants, incidentally with knives and bolos and survived...I guess the old man was just extremely lucky ei?
@arucon or you could assume it was his system of knife defense that saved him - its really up to you whilst we sit here pontificating in the warm comfort of our homes... I dont buy into either model of reality - the map is not the territory. But Im not out to "convert" anyone, believe what you like.
Phillipino pat a cake floats your boat for knife defence? Cool. Show me the video of you using it against a non choreographed committed attack and I will sit up and listen.
@streetfightsecrets I ain't assuming anything, I'm taking HIS word for it. Perhaps his story was merely a lot of hog wash. Perhaps. But I'm taking his word for it because you can't hide "battle scars". But one will find that HIS story is not a unique instance in the wild wild west of old old days of provincial life in the Philippines. Show you? Would you believe me then if I told you knife fighting saved my life? Oh, I forgot, I don't have a video of that so I guess that out of the picture.
@arucon in this day and age it's not that hard to find a mate with a digital camera with a video function on it, film yourself with a training partner attacking you with a training knife at full speed in an improvised way, if you recieve less than 3 potentially lethal "cuts" in the first 10 seconds I will concede the point. Fair enough?
@streetfightsecrets Awwww...Never realized my posts had that sting in it. I apologize if it did...lol! I guess both of us struck a nerve there ei...Me with your "assumptions" and "expert" opinion and you with rebuttals. I am highly tempted, but I must decline. Because you are right, no one can survive a knife attack for real...Were all just loonies to believe it. Your video surely shows the reality of it...I shall go forth and follow your advice and post elsewhere. Cheerio Mr. Streetfighter.
@arucon You're answer is silly and facile and typical utube "trying to sound clever" chod fodder. You were answered in a polite fashion and given the opportunity to make your points, but its clear you're more interested in trying to save face. Dissapointing. Your answer says it all. Any further comment from me would be redundant.
Will you be deleting these spurious posts now I wonder?
@streetfightsecrets What kind of video would you like me to show you? A demo video like the one above? Or perhaps you would like me to show you an actual video fo someone defending against a knife attack? Unfortunately I don't have any video of the later. It's kinda difficult to worry about a video camera while someone is trying to stab someone else with a real knife. But I'm sure someone else will be able to humor you with your challenge. ANY TAKERS??? Please do show Mr Streetfighter here...
@streetfightsecrets A man surviving a knife attack simply because he knew how to defend is NOT AN UNCOMMON story in the Philippines. So am I assuming that it was knife fighting that saved their asses? LOL! Not at all, I was just making a wild guess. I'm sure a lot of people would like to SHOW you, but I'm sure their finding it hard to find people who are willing to try and stab them for real. There is absolutely no spillproof knife defense but to says that it's BS. That's BS.
@streetfightsecrets fantastic video, Iam not sure about the techniques but its great that you guys are realistic about this issue of knife attacks. Your the only knife defence I would consider taking seriously out of all this youtube bullshit. Spot on.
I wish more people could see what really happens to hands, arms, wrists and stomaches after they try to defend against an edged weapon with their bare hands. It is a nasty bloody mess! I get in arguments all the time on this matter. People just don't want to hear the art they have trained in for years will get them cut and sliced in the real world. Good Video!
If some guy tells you that he can defend himself successfully against a knife without running away, tell him ok we'll practise a bit, I'll use a red marker as a "knife" and you defend against it and we'll see how much ink I put on you.
Geez, the truth about knife defense sucks doesn't it.
It's good to see youtube vid for once that acknowledges reality. I laugh at all the vids where I see someone playing "patty cake" and pushing it as a real knife defense. Thanks 4 not insulting my intelligence.
Keep it up guys! Have U seen "Die Less Often" by the Dog Bros.? The establishing montage about the realities of blade attacks, eye opening/chilling. Your approach one of the few out there in youtube-land that's worthwhile.
I have meant to tell you this to you for quite some time now. The more I have researched outside SFS the more I find that attacking the attacker is 100% correct. Given our difference in age, ( I'm now 41 ) size ( I'm 1.90 and 120kg ) and now disabled. Our methods of mauling might/might not look the same.
As my tournament coach said: ( 7th Dan Aikido, 6th Dan Judo and 30 yr. cop ) " Principles will save your AS* every time ! Techniques are interesting parlor tricks. "
Don't stand there chatting with the would be attacker, Eh?, get offensive and aggressively control, dictate, and dominate the play, you must think like a hunter and view him as prey whilst at the same time respect him as if he is the better fighter, you are simply not going to give him the chance to prove it through immediate target acquisition to cause injury upon immediate injury to finnish him.
Seems like chasing your attacker's knife hand doesn't work. While parrying his knife hand and attacking to his head or his center line to control or take his balance, even momentarily, works a lot better.
it's realistic. Good Job! in prison, the attacker wait till u r in the small room or stairwell. not a lot of room to jump backward, cuz ur back against the wall. we might get cuts, but, hopefully avoid major injuries. Thanks.
The best defense against a knife if escape is not possible, is grabbing another weapon that's longer and capable of keeping distance to your opponent. A chair comes to mind. If that doesn't work, kicking will (and I don't mean a fancy sidekick swing like in martial art movies). You're typically wearing shoes which provides some protection, and it keeps the knife away from your vital organs. It's important to injure the attacker enough so you can get away for help.
Awesome video, 100% right. Take just one lesson with someone that knows how to fight with a knife, armed with a magic marker. You'll see the only thing "magic self defense systems" REALLY do is throw their believers in a coffin.
The problem is that people watch "Karate Kid" and believe that Sensei Miyagi's tecnhiques work at real world.

For real there may be times when you have no choice but to fight a knife attacker with nothing but your bare hands when you know you'll die if you do nothing anyway. But that should be a last resort when you have no where to run or can't find or don't have time to grab something to hit them with or throw at them to extend your range or at least buy you some time or shall we even say trying to comply with them if all they want is your money or fancy jewelry or car or whatever.
Thank you! This is more realistic than 90 % of other so called "knife defenses" at youtube. But why are you using a stop-hit with your rare arm? This will only shorten your distance and open your upper body and groin widely up.
You have to become the feeder. If you can get your own weapon in play. You're right, if all you do is defend you will lose. You need to be on the offence. Be the feeder.
I am seriously interested in putting myself in this situation (with fake knives of course.) This video makes a very powerful point about knife attacks, and I think that one of the serious dangers of a knife as opposed to a gun (at least in the states) is that many of the big talking tough guys like to carry guns while those that are ready to kill would do it with a knife.
@LHSStuntman DO IT - its good fun and a real eye opener, upload to youtube and I'll put it up on my site, always good to see people running the experiments themselves
Let's face it, it's not likely the attacker is going to be a professional assassin, just some thug. On the prepared defender's side is that the attacker probably hasn't given half a second's thought to the notion that the person they're attacking has any ability to deal with the attack.
@streetfightsecrets You're kidding, right? You've asserted there's NO way to defend against a knife attack. "Forget it" is your msg. If a hired assassin blind ambushes you, you may be hosed. However, most ppl don't live in a Hollywood movie. Who are you likely to actually encounter? Some punk, drunk, crazy, hell it could be an angry jealous girlfriend. Agreed, escape is best, might be good to be prepared for a situation when it's not feasible.
@darkkonelives this is an advert for a dvd, a dvd which you have not seen, nor have you trained with me "Forget it" most certainly is not my message, but there you go falling back to trying (and FAILING I might add) to put words into my mouth when your argument falls apart.
Heaven forbid you could admit that you misunderstood the point of the video at first glance, posted without checking. Why not just Man up and apologise?
@streetfightsecrets What if you're on a subway or have someone with you who you have to defend, any number of reasons why "run" might not be an immediately available option. Gonna leave your girlfriend who's on crutches behind? What if your path is blocked? What if the attacker pursues?
Take a look at the video titled - weird knife defence from Turkey
.
Granted the attacker is some schmuck and not a Ninja assassin or a Green Beret but it's a real-world on the street encounter with a knife-wielding attacker who clearly intends harm. Analyze how the knifeman is controlled never gets a chance to set himself, the defender doesn't get a scratch on him and could have done some serious damage to the attacker. One approach for developing an effective technique.
@DarkOneLives Just watched that video. The knife wielder is soooo drunk and the waiter still nearly gets stabbed in the liver right at the start. And for what? To get a drunk off the street 15 minutes faster than the police?
@viator22 Almost shmalmost - the bouncer pre-empted the attack with a head butt. No doubt knife guy had a few but he was sober enough to keep his balance after being slung around like that. Re: the police, we don't know what led up to that moment, why they wanted him gone now. He was angry, had a knife and was willing to use it. Would you agree that make him dangerous? The point being, it was a successful defense.
The "technique" shown in this so-called reality video has several flaws - the defender continually gives the attacker an optimal distance target, is attempting the most difficult possible defense in trying to parry the fast moving weapon hand, is doing nothing to restrain the weapon arm - cut it off at the source, no arm movement=no stab, doing nothing to put the attacker on the defense. How about moving IN on the attacker, disorient, don't give him a target, disable his weapon arm, attack.
you have misunderstood the point of the video - no "technique" is shown because no "technique" will save you from a frenzied, committed knife attack , hence the video title: "Reality of trying to defend against a committed Knife Attack "
as to your suggestions, moving past the hand to attempt to restrain the arm? Yes a fast way to get your torso and precious organs punctured
@streetfightsecrets So your stand is it's impossible to defend against a knife attack, period. Look at the video titled - Knife attack training : basics with a red marker - under XTremeStreetDefense Notice the small amount of marking on the defender's shirt is from minor contact with the "weapon" when it's no longer under the attacker's control, likely no injury to the defender. The attack seems far more aggressive & realistic than the attack in your video. Seems a feasible approach.
@DarkOneLives No, my stand is that it is very hard to defende against a committed frenzied knife attack. Do not attempt to put words into my mouth. My stance is clear enough from this video unless someone were deliberately making an effort to misinterpret it to fulfill some agenda.
As to the video you reference... the attacks are "far more aggressive and realistic"??
No. No mate they arent. Watch again.
Best thing you can do is try this stuff for yourself, saves the pontification.
@streetfightsecrets You first stated "..no "technique" will save you from a frenzied, committed knife attack.." But then said "..it is very hard to.." Big difference, which is it?
.
It's certainly made considerably harder if you continue to let them dictate terms by giving them an easy target at optimal distance, do nothing to counter and have pre-decided it's futile to try.
.
Your message seems to be "we're proving you're helpless". He shows not guarantees but def viable possibilities.
@DarkOneLives No its not a big difference, your lack of understanding and experience makes you think there is a big difference. My stance is that it is very hard to defend against a frenzied knife attack and that NO TECHNIQUE WILL SAVE YOU. Both those statements sit side by side quite comfortably with an experienced martial artist. To an armchair warrior such as yourself it is incomprehenisible... but:
No "technique" will save you but perhaps some skill and determination may. See?
that's it, fellas, you got that right! a REAL knife attack will come fast as hell, it will come repeatedly and most important: it will do so from 20 different directions with 20 strikes in under 30 seconds! trade your arm for your neck, make him slow with a strike to the head (or a brutal kick to the knee) and get the hell outta there!

THANK YOU for posting this...

All that other crap is for the movies.

this clip applies to all types of self deffense , if someone is commited and aggressive with a basic skill set then fancy stuff dont work
ironbuddha1008 3 months ago
@ironbuddha1008 thats a very interesting point... we should do one against someone just grabbing and wailing away full force with one hand (w/ gloves and protective gear) and see what happens

@streetfightsecrets im not a mma fan anymore, the more its become mainstream the less interested i am (i watched the first ufc on vhs many years ago)what it did and contiue to show is that a basic skill set of western boxing (most ufc guys dont box well unlike a pro boxer) and muaythia knees, leg kicks is all they use of striking and basic clinch work ( bjj/wresting is complex) its simple quick to learn. i do study complex ma & takes longer but get something speacial, self defense must be simple
ironbuddha1008 3 months ago

Brady2k10 4 months ago
imo the best knife defence is something like mace gel i mean you can see these two going at it, if this was real they'd be dead simple as i dont care what all these martial art techniques show you, you cant predict where someone will attack you with their knife, and then grab it or disarm them in time, you just cant, if someone means to kill you they will be viscious and fast like these in the vid, you cant defend yourself properly, get some mace gel it also marks faces so the police can c them
Brady2k10 4 months ago
@Brady2k10 old psot I kno, but the best defense against a knife attack is getting something between you and the attacker, like a car , a tree, anything to get distance and blocking. Then some nice 40 cal pistol rounds with Cor-Bon hi velocity ammo.
Place 2 in the chest and 1 in the brainpan in the lethal (T) area, ='s game over. pax aut bellum.
justaman6972 1 month ago
imo the best defence against a knife is awareness and escape, if you see someone coming at you, leg it, personally i carry around with me a small canister of mace gel (i live in london) in a rough area where stabbings are common so i thought fuck this im not getting caught off guard by anyone, mace gel is sticky when sprayed to the face, and when they rub it it burns their eyes, and goes into their skin causing burning, watery blurred vision, and its good.
Brady2k10 4 months ago
I have done this sort of training back in the 1990's,we quickly realized that if you are up against a good knife fighter, our next stop was going to be the hospital .A good outcome in this situation was to get to the exit with Head, torso, and legs untouched and arms would be needing stitches.Tourniquet anyone?

After watching some guys pretend knife duel, (fake knives of course) I decided to look around youtube for some good knife defense advice. Problem is, the majority of teachings are some impractical combo traps/disarms. Very glad I finally found some sound advice here. Main objective: run away. I like the tip about premptively pushing the head too. I didn't see anything about kicking. Would it be a good idea using legs for range or would the loss of balance be too risky?
juliushlee 6 months ago
@juliushlee nothing I write here or say on a video or that anyone says to you is going to beat first hand experience. It is well worth your time to get a fake knife (or make one we are using a peice of cardboard here) and just try these things out. I found kicking risk as it was easy to get your calf and achilles slashed. The combined force of your kick plus their slash could lead to some deep wounds I imagine, potentially rendering that limb useless. Try for yourself though.
streetfightsecrets 6 months ago
i like this video because of its realism. i take Krav Maga and don't like that oftentimes the *assumption* is that an attacker will be clumsy or will drop the knife after being hit once.
what i've learned is that you have 3 choices. (1) RUN your ass off if you're alone. (2) find some sort of implement - barstool, bottle, even a heavy coat - to use to ward off the attacker. (3) get REALLY lucky and catch the knife arm in an underhook and dislocate his fucking shoulder.
just stay alive.
jofujenkins 7 months ago
@jofujenkins how is krav maga? i'm thinking of learning it. i'm fairly old (already 19), but would really like to take a martial arts for self defence and get back into shape. would you recommend it for surviving on the street?

@jofujenkins lmao ya I just always assumed it would be better to learn martial arts at an early age. but i'm going to take it then. might take some boxing with it too later on.
hotsizzleakadafizz 6 months ago
We do attacks like this in ju jitsu and its terrifying, despite us practising numerous techniques 99% goes out the window when it counts, its good though really drives home the main defence against knife whenever possible is to run and scream as loud as you can!
I think I read somewhere the fight is lost many times at the first slash where the shock of being cut and seeing your flesh carved open is simply too much for the average individual to handle.
Falandorn 7 months ago
I was harrassed for months by a guy I know a few years back. He knew I trained BJJ and Kali and was obsessed with proving how superior he was in every area, despite never having trained with me.He often bragged about his system of knife defense and I would urge him to just run away if he ever faced a blade, but he persisted and eventually "challenged" me to saying he could "stick the knife up my arse". That was it. We cut a section of broomstick and I repeatedly FUKKED HIM UP infront of EVERYONE
Rapist87 7 months ago
@Rapist87 - best way to prove this point, actions speak louder than words
streetfightsecrets 7 months ago
@streetfightsecrets Yeah, thing is I messed him up pretty bad,he wouldn't accept it,even after I wrecked his ribs and he was bleeding from his eybrow and a split lip(not badly, but bleeding). It was getting out of hand by the time I'd killed him twice and I ended up killing him around 15 to 20 times, before he finally accepted that his "master" was selling some bullshit.I had peace for about a month, then he started again saying his "master" had shown him what he did wrong and NOW he was ready!!
Rapist87 7 months ago
@Rapist87 just tell him cool, you believe him and youre glad he is ready - poking at someone with a broomhandle you could knock his teeth out or even damage an eye - just submit to his knife defense ninja mastery and let it go. Training with people who are mentally unbalanced is un ethical. Tell him your scared he might hurt you or whatever it takes to assuage his ego and save him the injury.
streetfightsecrets 7 months ago
@streetfightsecrets This happened about 6 years ago and I just went back to ignoring him like I had been before the broomstick incident, and I only did that because he was being quite abusive about "sticking it up my arse" in front of alot of mutual friends and despite me trying to change the subject he persisted for a good 15minutes. In the end I got offended and decided to shut him up. I tell the story just to show how even when confronted with the truth of the blade, many still WANT fantasy
Rapist87 7 months ago
@Rapist87 ah yes I see now, you said in your first post "I was harrassed for months by a guy I know a few years back."
Well fantasy is so much more comforting than reality. Especially in this case which is if the knife is out and the guy is keen to stab you and he's in range you may very well die. Thats just the way it is.

Allthough I did try the punching in the face idea, (not a real punch obviously) and i'm quite sure that would work against a 59 year old women with a knife.lol

on the plus side though. Very encouraging if you are defending your home from psycho intruders and you get a kitchen knife.

a very depressing but honest video.
both of you are trained fighters though right? so you might have better luck defending yourself from a knife attack from someone who isn't a trained fighter. Maybe in this situation you would have been best to accept that fact you are gonna get stabbed but try and get one massive punch to the face.
after seeing this though you can see why so many people want to carry a knife just for self defence. I'm tempted to carry a rock. cause I don't have a hard punch
MayAllMyDelusions 9 months ago

streetfightsecrets 9 months ago

OEFvet1986 11 months ago
@Mrjustinqqq Yea i liked the "defanging the snake" mentality. Because ive noticed that most people try to use haymaker punches to the face or head, i think most untrained people would do the same type of attack with a knife. If you cut his hands or arms your pretty much taking away his weapons then you can finish him after he is "defanged". Hope i never have to fight a guy with a knife though, hopefully im carrying my 1911 if it happens, then i can just shoot him.

ANY defense works against a crap attack :)
streetfightsecrets 1 year ago 21
@streetfightsecrets It really depends on the individual, of attacker and the one who defends himself. The speed they posses, strength etc... Well trained real aikido practitioner could with easy dismantle knife attacker. Dont try to say its not true, grandmaster of real aikido, teaches that same defense and tehniques I am talkin about to russian special forces, and many other special forces in the world. Basicly, its all in tehnique. If its good for special ops, then its good for everybody.

@streetfightsecrets if you are able to answer i would appreciate it alot. How does grappling and throwing the opponent to the ground work during these drills? i get the feeling of it being complete suicide because you would probably get stabbed pretty bad in the stomach if you would try to throw him off balance, but at the same time if you can get the opponent to the ground you would be able to kick him in the head which seems to be the only way to safely attack a man with a knife. thanks

The point of this is pretty obvious, but I don't think theres quite as much denial as implied.Part of it is that I'm not sure that a knife attack would happen so anxiously and chaotic, the reason I think this is that I suspect many knifer's would be overconfident drunk or more cold blooded or not really wanting to kill someone, simply walking up and stabbing someone or showing intent and this could be a defenders chance, should he notice of course.
danbau08 1 year ago
@danbau08 thats a lot of positive assumptions mate, I think its best to assume the worst... then anything less than that should seem easier by comparison
streetfightsecrets 1 year ago
@streetfightsecrets Well I agree with assuming the worst and then as you say... Again Its just that you gotta start somewhere.I just don't believe at all that training has to always lightning fast or as chaotic as reality could be,don't even think it really makes sense.Even if every attack situation was like this It would seem better to train something and it is possible to consider and keep this kind of thing in mind while doing so.
danbau08 1 year ago
@streetfightsecrets cont. This very thing was discussed on a filipino site I sometimes visit. Is knife defense really realistic? Anyway not much problem with this vid more just the general negative or trite comments one keeps hearing about pretty much on any effort on this subject.
danbau08 1 year ago
@danbau08 rather than me give you a breakdown of my training background (what difference would that make to the subject at hand really?) why dont you just do the drill as its shown in the video and come to your own conlusions. you ask "is knife defense realistic" - mate it takes all of 5 minutes to test it for yourself! why take mine or anyone elses word for it, just test it yourself and see what happens- there is too much submission to authority in martial arts :) trust your own judgement
streetfightsecrets 1 year ago 2
@streetfightsecrets Alright, just find it interesting and informative. Yes already have done such things as in your vid. Yes I agree there is too much submission to authority in MA, cult like sometimes.Seen this on a personal level, ridiculous really. Enough posting on your vids, should go train :)
danbau08 1 year ago
@danbau08 your more than welcome to post on my vids, I just wanted to push the point that Im not out there on other peoples videos and sites trying to change the way people train - people are coming here, its interesting isnt it? and I think proves my point in a way:
i think people comment for one of two reasons: 1. as in your case you like the way Ive approached subject even if u might not agree with me or 2. it makes people feel insecure and they dont like it...
do you know what I mean?
streetfightsecrets 1 year ago
@streetfightsecrets Yep I think so.
danbau08 1 year ago
@danbau08 I don't make negative or trite comments on other peoples videos or systems or training, I genuinely do not care how people choose to train - people are coming to me and whinging on my video post that I'm being defeatist or too negative - Im a realist. Trappy Slappy Knife Defence is ego stroking dangerous B.S. - Avoiding getting attacked with a knife is not, training to survive being attacked is not - but in the training there MUST BE a genuine attack not just a game of pat a cake :)
streetfightsecrets 1 year ago
@streetfightsecrets No you don't strike me that way, should have worded it more specifically, just see a lot of it in the comments sections of what seems fairly good or workable methods. I just think that some of these drills well are just that, drills, to help develop certain attributes. There are of course arguments about there value or the amount time spent on them, so it is .I do agree, sober business.

Ok the point of the video is? Knife defense is just a bunch of BS and study street boxing instead? The video certainly shows how "effective" NOT knowing how defend is. Knife defense doesn't work? I don't know about that. But I do know an old man from my mother's home town in the Philippines who is a knife fighter who survived being ambushed on 2 occasions by armed assailants, incidentally with knives and bolos and survived...I guess the old man was just extremely lucky ei?
arucon 1 year ago 2
@arucon or you could assume it was his system of knife defense that saved him - its really up to you whilst we sit here pontificating in the warm comfort of our homes... I dont buy into either model of reality - the map is not the territory. But Im not out to "convert" anyone, believe what you like.
Phillipino pat a cake floats your boat for knife defence? Cool. Show me the video of you using it against a non choreographed committed attack and I will sit up and listen.
Dont tell me. SHOW ME
streetfightsecrets 1 year ago
@streetfightsecrets I ain't assuming anything, I'm taking HIS word for it. Perhaps his story was merely a lot of hog wash. Perhaps. But I'm taking his word for it because you can't hide "battle scars". But one will find that HIS story is not a unique instance in the wild wild west of old old days of provincial life in the Philippines. Show you? Would you believe me then if I told you knife fighting saved my life? Oh, I forgot, I don't have a video of that so I guess that out of the picture.
arucon 1 year ago
@arucon in this day and age it's not that hard to find a mate with a digital camera with a video function on it, film yourself with a training partner attacking you with a training knife at full speed in an improvised way, if you recieve less than 3 potentially lethal "cuts" in the first 10 seconds I will concede the point. Fair enough?

Please do show Mr Streetfighter here...
arucon 1 year ago

Spot on.

Only way to go against a knife is with a knife. Period. If you dont carry one- start. There is no magic answer. Nice video of you getting mutilated

Good Video!
Sharkman3472 1 year ago
scary......the way you are getting stabbed in some of these, would it be fatal?

If some guy tells you that he can defend himself successfully against a knife without running away, tell him ok we'll practise a bit, I'll use a red marker as a "knife" and you defend against it and we'll see how much ink I put on you.
He won't do it.

Your approach one of the few out there in youtube-land that's worthwhile.

great video, there needs to be more videos like this on youtube instead of these fantasy " knife defenses" .

This is one of the best ' knife defence' videos that I have seen.
Even the best knife defence I've seen would only work if
1 The attacker was a moron.
2 You see the attack coming from at least four or five feet( see above).
3 You are very lucky.
Nice to see a bit of reality

I have meant to tell you this to you for quite some time now. The more I have researched outside SFS the more I find that attacking the attacker is 100% correct. Given our difference in age, ( I'm now 41 ) size ( I'm 1.90 and 120kg ) and now disabled. Our methods of mauling might/might not look the same.
As my tournament coach said: ( 7th Dan Aikido, 6th Dan Judo and 30 yr. cop ) " Principles will save your AS* every time ! Techniques are interesting parlor tricks. "
DandDskeeto 1 year ago
Don't stand there chatting with the would be attacker, Eh?, get offensive and aggressively control, dictate, and dominate the play, you must think like a hunter and view him as prey whilst at the same time respect him as if he is the better fighter, you are simply not going to give him the chance to prove it through immediate target acquisition to cause injury upon immediate injury to finnish him.
thrillseeker70 1 year ago
Seems like chasing your attacker's knife hand doesn't work. While parrying his knife hand and attacking to his head or his center line to control or take his balance, even momentarily, works a lot better.
Bottom line: expect to het cut. Scary stuff.

really good job. I tottaly agree with your training system against knife attack.
MrGunther667 1 year ago
it's realistic. Good Job! in prison, the attacker wait till u r in the small room or stairwell. not a lot of room to jump backward, cuz ur back against the wall. we might get cuts, but, hopefully avoid major injuries. Thanks.
nams0001 1 year ago
The best defence against knives is to keep away from places where people use knives. etc. tc.
Flatlegs 1 year ago

But that should be a last resort when you have no where to run or can't find or don't have time to grab something to hit them with or throw at them to extend your range or at least buy you some time or shall we even say trying to comply with them if all they want is your money or fancy jewelry or car or whatever.
fearfactor22 1 year ago
Thank you! This is more realistic than 90 % of other so called "knife defenses" at youtube. But why are you using a stop-hit with your rare arm? This will only shorten your distance and open your upper body and groin widely up.
tjoooda 1 year ago
You have to become the feeder. If you can get your own weapon in play. You're right, if all you do is defend you will lose. You need to be on the offence. Be the feeder.

I am seriously interested in putting myself in this situation (with fake knives of course.) This video makes a very powerful point about knife attacks, and I think that one of the serious dangers of a knife as opposed to a gun (at least in the states) is that many of the big talking tough guys like to carry guns while those that are ready to kill would do it with a knife.

Let's face it, it's not likely the attacker is going to be a professional assassin, just some thug. On the prepared defender's side is that the attacker probably hasn't given half a second's thought to the notion that the person they're attacking has any ability to deal with the attack.
DarkOneLives 1 year ago
@DarkOneLives what a thoroughly mediocre way of dealing with the subject.
Yes lets stack our positive assumptions high, cross our fingers and just hope that everyone out there who might attack you is an idiot with no skill.
Well done you.e
streetfightsecrets 1 year ago
@streetfightsecrets You're kidding, right? You've asserted there's NO way to defend against a knife attack. "Forget it" is your msg. If a hired assassin blind ambushes you, you may be hosed. However, most ppl don't live in a Hollywood movie. Who are you likely to actually encounter? Some punk, drunk, crazy, hell it could be an angry jealous girlfriend. Agreed, escape is best, might be good to be prepared for a situation when it's not feasible.
darkkonelives 1 year ago
@darkkonelives this is an advert for a dvd, a dvd which you have not seen, nor have you trained with me "Forget it" most certainly is not my message, but there you go falling back to trying (and FAILING I might add) to put words into my mouth when your argument falls apart.
Heaven forbid you could admit that you misunderstood the point of the video at first glance, posted without checking. Why not just Man up and apologise?
streetfightsecrets 1 year ago
@streetfightsecrets What if you're on a subway or have someone with you who you have to defend, any number of reasons why "run" might not be an immediately available option. Gonna leave your girlfriend who's on crutches behind? What if your path is blocked? What if the attacker pursues?
darkkonelives 1 year ago
@darkkonelives these questions are answered in the DVD which this video clip is an advert for.

DarkOneLives 1 year ago
@DarkOneLives Just watched that video. The knife wielder is soooo drunk and the waiter still nearly gets stabbed in the liver right at the start. And for what? To get a drunk off the street 15 minutes faster than the police?
viator22 1 year ago
@viator22 Almost shmalmost - the bouncer pre-empted the attack with a head butt. No doubt knife guy had a few but he was sober enough to keep his balance after being slung around like that. Re: the police, we don't know what led up to that moment, why they wanted him gone now. He was angry, had a knife and was willing to use it. Would you agree that make him dangerous? The point being, it was a successful defense.
DarkOneLives 1 year ago
The "technique" shown in this so-called reality video has several flaws - the defender continually gives the attacker an optimal distance target, is attempting the most difficult possible defense in trying to parry the fast moving weapon hand, is doing nothing to restrain the weapon arm - cut it off at the source, no arm movement=no stab, doing nothing to put the attacker on the defense. How about moving IN on the attacker, disorient, don't give him a target, disable his weapon arm, attack.
DarkOneLives 1 year ago
@DarkOneLives No,
you have misunderstood the point of the video - no "technique" is shown because no "technique" will save you from a frenzied, committed knife attack , hence the video title: "Reality of trying to defend against a committed Knife Attack "
as to your suggestions, moving past the hand to attempt to restrain the arm? Yes a fast way to get your torso and precious organs punctured
streetfightsecrets 1 year ago
@streetfightsecrets So your stand is it's impossible to defend against a knife attack, period. Look at the video titled - Knife attack training : basics with a red marker - under XTremeStreetDefense Notice the small amount of marking on the defender's shirt is from minor contact with the "weapon" when it's no longer under the attacker's control, likely no injury to the defender. The attack seems far more aggressive & realistic than the attack in your video. Seems a feasible approach.
DarkOneLives 1 year ago
@DarkOneLives No, my stand is that it is very hard to defende against a committed frenzied knife attack. Do not attempt to put words into my mouth. My stance is clear enough from this video unless someone were deliberately making an effort to misinterpret it to fulfill some agenda.
As to the video you reference... the attacks are "far more aggressive and realistic"??
No. No mate they arent. Watch again.
Best thing you can do is try this stuff for yourself, saves the pontification.
streetfightsecrets 1 year ago
@streetfightsecrets You first stated "..no "technique" will save you from a frenzied, committed knife attack.." But then said "..it is very hard to.." Big difference, which is it?
.
It's certainly made considerably harder if you continue to let them dictate terms by giving them an easy target at optimal distance, do nothing to counter and have pre-decided it's futile to try.
.
Your message seems to be "we're proving you're helpless". He shows not guarantees but def viable possibilities.
DarkOneLives 1 year ago
@DarkOneLives No its not a big difference, your lack of understanding and experience makes you think there is a big difference. My stance is that it is very hard to defend against a frenzied knife attack and that NO TECHNIQUE WILL SAVE YOU. Both those statements sit side by side quite comfortably with an experienced martial artist. To an armchair warrior such as yourself it is incomprehenisible... but:
No "technique" will save you but perhaps some skill and determination may. See?
