My personal opinion is that the issue of Albanians descending or not from Illyrians doesn't deserve the interest it has traditionally aroused. Slavic tribes Mezi, Dolonci, Desseri, Lydi ... lived in Balcan and whole Europe since migration of Indoeuropean Arians any 5 - 3 000 b.c., but Macedonians were not Slavs.
Any Venet Slavic tribes lived in parts of Macedonia in that time, but Macedonians were purely north Greeks by language, culture, religion...
Original Slavs were mostly peasants not high mountain shepherds. Just Slavic Gorani lived in mountains from north India, Persia, Turkey, whole Europe to north Africa.

I really don´t know whether " I " is slavic DNA. All Slavs have it it in higher - less %. For sure is slavic R1A which is confirmed by the toponyms ( for example Gorani - Ghór - Zagros - Zagora - Zagore .... ), by peasant cultures of urn fields, by names of Slavic tribes :
Lugi, Lučani, Lydians, Moezi, Dolonci, Dosseriani ....
By name Venet for Slavs which is used since 9th cent. b.c. till now.
It seams as modern Slavs from 4 - 6th cent. = R1A + I
