Heh, seriously. There's another instance on the nighttime version with Bill Cullen where this lady he played with went NUTS after winning the $25k and he just sat there and laughed.
Just another day in the office for Randall. He definitely was a Pyramid player par excellence indeed along with Nipsey Russell, Adrienne Barbeau, Dick Cavett, Bill Cullen, these folks were pros indeed.
I got a kick out of how she knew what a stripper would use.I also loved Tony Randall's fresh man clue.We don't refer to them that way nowadays. This was during it's 6 year run on ABC.Tony Randall's a great Pyramid player.
Thanks for the info! I knew that he did the $50,000 Pyramid, but I also thought he did the CBS version of Pyramid. Thanks again for the information!!!
Possibly, although when I look at the video again, it seems that the clock clue instantly gave it to her, after Tony had coupled it with the malt clue. When this show was taped, I wonder what percentage of alarm clocks were still the wind-up kind. People tended to shake those when they ran down. Tony's clue made me think of "Lawrence of Arabia," during which Anthony Quinn shakes a larger (mantel?) clock and listens for the ticking before he smashes it in disgust.
Gotta love Elaine Joyce!! She ran up to offer a bit of distraction from Tony Randall's cockiness (Hey, it's Tony Randall being Tony Randall--gotta love that too!!) The contestant wanted to celebrate and cheer, but oh well...
I will say one thing though, she most likely missed out on having her win replayed in the beginning of another show (lol)!!
Tony just sat there like a bump on a log. If I had helped my partner win big in the Winner's Circle, I would have been like "YES!! YES!! YOU GOT IT, BABY!!! C'mere and gimme a hug, you deserve it!!" :D
1:20 I doubt that's the first time Tony Randall has heard a woman scream that at him :D

Tony Randall was not a man that would jump up and down with excitement. But deep down, he loved to win for the contestant. He is well missed.

Tony Randall: literate, bright, cultured, personable, compassionate . . . one of a kind! We miss you and hope that your example will resound!

They once played a gag on Tony Randall by using answers that were written in an Asian language. Does anybody have that one to post?

I guess the judge likes to let Tony get by with illegal clues: At 0:21, you can hear him say, "You're close..."

Tony was born at the beginning of the 1920s and Dick was born at the end of the 1920s.

Was Tony Randall on the new $25,000 pyramid as a guest on CBS?
richie19190 3 years ago
No, the last version he appeared on was the $50,000 one.

But never shake a baby.

That goes without saying.

Tony Randall, that smug b*st*rd...
You shake a clock?
colBoh 3 years ago
Whatever it takes to get the clock running again.
SlideItEarl 3 years ago
Then why didn't Tony say "a broken clock" or "a stopped clock" or something along those lines? Not that it was necessary...
colBoh 3 years ago
Maybe she was responding more to his first clue, "a malt," than to the clock clue.
SlideItEarl 3 years ago
Well, THAT'S obvious...

There's another clip from a $10,000 opening where he does the same thing. He's one of the calmest players I have ever seen.
