mike is awesome love all his session with cher, bolton, steve perry, chicago, linda ronstadt i always name check him when commenting on youtube vids i dig .what a player like lukather and dann huff they play for the song but inject their style so you know instantly if their on the radio class!!
hey ger how ta doin'? yes mike is a another of my top L A session giants! stylish, slick and awesomely talented.check out the james taylor video Squibnocket live at marthas vineyard i,ts fuckin amazing! landau, don grolnick, carlos vega, clifford carter, jimmy johnson.with backup singers david lasley, kate markowitz, valerie carter and arnold mculloch it,s brilliant!!
does anyone know the name of the artist he's recording for, and\or the tune ?` I'd like to find the full version of this tune, to hear more of this wonderful guitar playing
I should also add the Landau along with a few others were the main originators of the wet/dry/wet amp setup...basically mic or take a line out from your main amp and run it into your rack with your stereo effects into a stereo power amp out to a couple of cabs either side of your 'dry amp'..i tried this recently and it sounds huge....Landau also had the TC 1210 stereo chorus unit in his rack along with tri chorus so it could be either ..i'm not too familar with either as their rare in Ireland..
Mr. Landau you are amazing !!! Taste , Soul, SOUND and more ... you got it all !!! I must listen to thees 1'33 as ofen as posible coz it is more than words to me. WOW!!! REGARDS.
The chief thing is a Fender Strat in the 4th position. Use a chorus with a pitchshift effect on it, some compression, a bit of EQ, and some VERY DEEP reverb with delay.
The "Tri-Stereo Chorus" by Dyno-My-Piano is a rack chorus with three delay lines, it basically "ripples" like water, very liquidy sound as you can hear in this clip.
Hi... i reckon you would be ok with a strat type guitar in the 2nd or 4rd positions on the switch into a clean amp with some compresson, chorus and a bit of delay/reverb,of couse Mr Landau uses a rack with all sorts of top end processors for his studio work but if you check out his current setup in vids on youtube you will see he uses a modest pedalboard into a amp with a single lexicon unit in the amps loop for delay/reverb...with people of this calibre it's all in the heart/soul/fingers as well
His current pedalboar Mike is using now is not to create that glassy liquid cleansound. He is using his Arion stereo chorus for that fast leslie kind of sound. You can't compare his current sound with back then.
@mdjababoe I've been looking for a label to hang on Landua' s sound and I think your's will do nicely. For me this is the sound above others I would choose as my favourite of the 80's. For many reasons, including the one you quote here and I suppose musical fashion this sound is sadly wanting today
I first heard a very similar sound on Helen Watson's album on a track called "Lazy"; just as lovely as this! Mike is an awesome player!! Check out Joni Mitchell's album "Chalkmark in a Rainstorm" for more of Mike lush sound.
i'm sure this recording was quite awhile back judging from the high processing and yes, i have an arion sch1 and a pcm 70. these effects are key to getting those sounds.
The song is of an Argentinian singer named Juan Carlos Baglietto and the tune is "media noche en paris", for the ones who want to listen Mr Landau playing.
You guys should check out some of the tracks on Joni Mitchell's album "wild things run fast" from about '82. . he plays some nice touches on that . . cool album !
In the typical faggotry of youtube users, half miss the point that its about his playing not the quality of what he's playing on. Beautiful note choice as always.
Michael has done biggest part of his career in the studio playing tracks like this... This track sounds really awesome. Some kids maybe thinks Mike is only rock guitarist but i've followed his playing over 20 years. He has played very different styles but his playing has been always amazing. He has really good musical taste. It's not good to focus only to one music style.
dude mike is extremely versatile guitarist and has great taste i'm just saying this song is gay man and i like all kinds of music, all respect great guitarist can't save bad singer/songwriter
typical landau fat chorus and smooth licks very good tough

Because it's a combination of fine pitch (detune) and a (tri stereo) chorus.
