LOL! Its great that this old commercial is floating around on YouTube. I love Carrie and Misery. My 2 Favourite books. I think Carrie would probably be my all time favourite movie.
I disagree with you on that one. It was not fair at all, especially when, at that time, he had already published books like "Different Seasons" and "The Dead Zone," and sure, horrible things happen to his characters in his books, but he focuses more on the moral and the human nature and the human mind, too. He's focused more on the Drama. He's said so himself that he has never called himself a Horror writer.
He writes suspense, shock, okay, but he's not the kind of guy who makes you scream like in this ad. Instead he makes you scream inside your head. He might be a Salami writer, he might write Big Macs, but he plays more with your intellect and makes you care about the characters.
He's not like Wes Craven or Kevin Williamson, etc., who're always looking for a cheap scare and a cheap scream. Now, they're filmmakers and King's a story-teller, but you get the picture, I hope. Therefore, this ad is utterly ridiculous. One of the worst portrayals of Stephen King I've ever seen... But well, it's just that, just an old ad, and it's nothing really serious. Just sharing some thoughts here.
dumbass pulls out needful things instead of the stand

Wow! That comment was a bit more than one year old, when King was like the world to me.

Silly and bad. Obviously they never read a SK book. If so, they wouldn't have been typecasting him as "the horror guy." How I hate that.

At that time, that was a pretty fair assessment.

Did they just say you get a new Stephen King book every 7 weeks for the rest of your life?

Notice how the announcer says, "How would you like to buy The Stand..." but onscreen the man is offered the Needful Things hardcover.
