well she is making "pop" music if you compare it to making "classical" music. and shouldn't all musicians be "experimenting" with music? if you don't give music any thought that is somewhat new, I think it kind of loses its right to be called "art"... it just becomes a staple, like potatoes
@ficsci i've always wondered that too. as a musician if you are not trying to push boundaries and discover new things then what exactly are you doing. being in music for the sole purpose of making hits and money is certainly not art
She takes the art of music and sound to a whole new level.
She experiments and tries different things, different instruments. She also pours everything in her mind into it. It doesn't have to make sense for it to be art.
You either get her or you don't.
This is what makes Bjork so unique and wonderful as an artist.
@toonmama6 i never thought of bjork's music as pop music. i think of it as experimental, or avant garde. she definitely was inspired by it, but she has her own unique style. that's what makes her so amazing.
@serpico89 yes she is experimental, and is an acquired taste, but in her own words in interviews her eon youtube.. she considers herself a pop musician! My opinion is she claims this because she is a musical interventionalist! I thinks its her duty to expand people's perception of music and open their ears to other emotions and human dimensions that are unexplored. You will see that she just keeps getting better.. I've also herd her say she considers her self a music scientist .
@toonmama6 i'm not saying i don't like bjork. i love her, she's one of my favorite female artists. when she says "pop" i think she's generalizing. but its always been experimental. "pop music" by definition is something w/ little merit and just has to be catchy, which is the opposite of bjork's work.
@toonmama6 that's a tremendous compliment to madonna to compare her to someone as eccentric and talented as bjork. you're right M does wish she was as creative as bjork becuase Madonna has GREAT TASTE!
How weird...Hhere she sounds like she's just learning English(rolling her r's and such), but I just watched an interview of her from the Vespertine era, and there's almost no trace of accent except for a British one she picked up from London. Odd.
bjork is played out. medula was the beginning of the end. She never displays her musical ear anymore. Gling Glo was probably her best singing. The more abstract she gets, the more she sounds like she's def.
She should use a Korg Ms 20 and an original polymoog, those were some of the few truly great sounding synthesizers, the nowadays shit is for the masses.

At first I thought she had her icelandic accent in her earlier days and she lost it when living in UK but now it's 2007 and the accent is back again. It's not like Iäm complaining, I love her anyhow and I actually prefer the icelandic way of english... but I was just wondering :D Is she doing that on purpose or what gives?
It is very easy to pick up accents...kinda like if I talk to someone in the UK my accent like adapts? Does that make sense...kind of like I start talking like the way other people talk but if I talk to someone from Iceland it's as if the accent never left. I hope that makes some sense lol.
Yeah, I guess I understand... so you live in Iceland? What's it like? Have you seen Björk alive? Actually it's been my long-time desire to visit Iceland. And not beacause of Björk but because it seems so exotic and so different and so like nowhere else... :D you know? Heh, hard to explain, but this is definitely the country I must go to some day :)
Isnät it weird that Björk has like various accents??? Sometimes she talks in her icelandic way, doing those harsh r-s, then she talks like a native british and then all of a sudden she's all so american... haven't you noticed?
i used to like bjork i was a really big fan ...but the most resent stuff i dont like as much weather thats because i have changed or she has i dont know but i still thing most of her work is very good. I can't decide wether I prefer Medulla or Volta. Volta i s more energetic, but Medulla is magical! VOLTA is a pearl, a beautiful song, not well known, but wonderful!
Wow -- I totally agree. Medúlla is my fav album of all time, and was the first of Björk's music that I discovered for myself, forced to listen late at night with headphones (WHAT an experience, what a Björkhood).
So I have always viewed her other albums as separate .. nothing comes close to the complete immersion of that album. I love the feeling that you're right inside her mouth.. you can hear every little spit bubble ;^P
With all of my natural loving musical soul, I am in awe of Bjork. John Lennon would have adored her. Her gift to the world cannot be understated. At 43 years of age, I find great inspiration with everything I consume of this wonderful individual.
herrr ahhh titties look kinda ahhh weirddd...yesss ahhh is ahh something. the one is ahh big and the otherrr one is ahh small yess...but nonetheless shes all good.
her icelandic accent has gotten stronger... you can even hear it on the album. i shall marry this woman someday , even though she'd probably rip out my hair, chew off my ear and spit it at me within the first week. All part of the appeal. And well put adshdsjf...
Björk is an acquired taste. without some sense of what music is about you won't like her music. Björk does music for the people who know what music is all about. Sure some people may not like her music, but everyone should be able to appreciate what the woman is doing for the world of music. There is no greater innovator. Personally, shes my fave singer. And like someone said before, the true sound of nature. So so true ;o)
GET READY GUYS YOU KNOW SHE HAS SO MUCH MUSIC TO SHARE WITH US IN THE YEARS TO COME...I VE LOVED BJORK EVER SINCE I WAS 12......AND MAN I ALWAYS KNEW THAT SHE WOULD EVOLVE IN TO THis GREAT MUSIC SCIENTIST THAT SHE IS. TODAY
... check out my page-full of interviews with the bjork....they are truly gems to me . peace
i just don't understand, why did her accent change from 1993 to now? she spoke much better english then.

I always wonder how good it would be to have a musical family or band, where people communicate on levels that can't be seen, though felt...
...that would be proper communication!
The environment is the key.
I really could do with a constructive change of environment myself.
Very different from my time at "Elmades", that was very clumsily 'afforded' to me by social services, by force.
The ignorance of some systems make it plain to see that "we" still have some way to go, to make progress.

her icelandic accent has gotten stronger... you can even hear it on the album. i shall marry this woman someday , even though she'd probably rip out my hair, chew off my ear and spit it at me within the first week.

I've got tears in my eyes ~ you couldn't have said it any better, friend.
"Björk does music for the people who know what music is all about."
One thing I love about her is she makes me love music I wouldn't usually go near.
She expands my tastes.
I'll follow her to just about wherever her musical quest leads..
