Do you need the full version of ableton live or could i create a decent track with just the version supplied with the launchpad? Contemplating buying this, but would it be a waste of money with no experience, or could i pick it up with practice?
@mrtheroosterdude The launchpad comes with all its drivers and a limited version of ableton live music software, so you can use it with live right out of the box
@Jimtheskeleton its designed to work with ableton, but you can use it as a general midi controller/device. In the video clips I am using my own progams which you can download via link in description
@AgustinNoesEverythin What do you mean by audio feedback? the playpad program only outputs midi, not any audio..so you need to direct that to a synth. The audio settings will then all be in whatever synth you are using. I was using Propellerheads Reason.. set the MIDI input in Reason to be the Midi Yoke that playpad is output to (e.g. "In From Midi Yoke 1") then Reason synths can be played by Playpad via MIDI. Audio settings are controlled in Reason.
@AgustinNoesEverythin - the Playpad program needs a "midi output device" to send note information to. If you want to use a soft synth like reason you need something to be able to "loop back" the outgoing MIDI and make it show up as a midi input device. This is what midi yoke is used for. You could also send to your hardware MIDI port and use an hardware synth via MIDI (I think) without midi yoke, but to use a soft synth on same PC you need midi yoke or similar
@qishmish - I dont think so.... you need as USB host (e.g. computer) and appropriate drivers to get Launchpad to work.. i think USB port on hardware synth would be a "device" port not a "host" port. Also, launchpad can send midi notes on its own, but you need other software to drive the lights/do anything interesting
sure.. i need to work on this to make it a bit more useable but some time i intend to post the source code and windows exe to download. Also you could download Midi-OX to see how the messaging from launchpad works. there is also useful launchpad programmer guide pdf from novation

@AgustinNoesEverythin - not tried it myself, but it should work.. just set up as for reason and use the midi yoke as ableton's midi input device

I've downloaded and followed the guide. a bit lost on connecting it all up to reason.
Is this for sure working on windows 7 64bit? Going to keep messing around with it, to see if I can get something going.

Just following up on that, I keep getting the could not load MIDI device for launchpad. while trying to enable the sequencer mode in playpad.exe
