i get very sick from traditional zero calorie sugar substitutes like aspartame, do you think stevia would have the same effect on me? like any diet drinks or just anything with fake sugar makes me sick so im fearful to try these, what do you think?
Hey, I am suppose to stop using sugar. However I have tried all the sugar subsitutes (Truvia, Splender etc). Even tried stevia....waste of my money...threw it out. I HATE THEM ALL!!!! I love coffee but cannot drink coffee without sugar & creamer. Any suggestions? I guess I could try honey but honey in coffee...not sure about that.
@mselgin2011 Hmm... you could try date sugar. It's similar to a granular sugar. Maple syrup if you like that flavor would work too and taste good in coffee.
@mselgin2011 Coconut sugar is a great alternative. It's low on the glycemic index, and it doesn't have that weird chemically tasting sweetness that you get from Truvia and Splenda.
I really love Truvia (it dissolves nicely in my green tea), but I've heard a couple bad things about it. Haven't had white sugar in 10 weeks, going strong. :-)
@daniellemariedodson Good for you Danielle!!! Woo Hoo! Not a fan of Truvia.. too processed. How about honey? It's delicious in tea. Maple syrup is even nice.
Great video. I am a type II diabetic and really try to keep my A1C below 6.5 which is a lot of work. However, I just found out that honey may help all type II diabetics and I am going to give it a shot.
My wife has been off of white flour and white sugar for 31 years and she still weighs about what she weighed when we were married.. Wish I could say the same for myself...
@wa4aos Thanks for your comment! Have you tried getting some support around your food choices? There are so many resources ou there! No need to try to do everything on your own. God bless.
I have a stevia plant in my back yard and it has gotten huge! The only problem is I don't know how to use it since it's a plant...LOL I guess I need to look it up on how to break it down so I could use it. My problem is I CRAVE sweets. As soon as I wake up I "need" something sweet. I'm addicted to sugar :(
@tigerlilly699 You could grind it with a mortar and pestle after you dry some of the leaves. I can relate to the sugar addiction. That's why I don't consume it. I think if you try stevia as a replacement it will help take the edge off since it doesn't set up cravings. Good luck!
@surprizebaby You could use honey, depending on the product and if it can "handle" a more liquid sweetner. Otherwise, you could use sucanat which is much better than refined white sugar.
Could you recommend a place to get / order all these healthy substitutes (The Fatty, The Salty & the Sweet)? I am so wanting to make the change but need to familiarize myself with (preferably) one reliable place from which I'd order all products from...Thanx!
! Have you thought about intellectus diet (just google for intellectus424dietcom)? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my work buddy lost tons of weight with it.
Does raw honey lose any of it's great health benefits when used in baking? Or what if you put it into hot tea. I know that the heat is what destroys many of the benefits but how hot is too hot?
@Tasya89 118 degrees is when raw foods become officially "cooked." It is still a healthier sweetener than white sugar which takes minerals from your body to digest.
Stevia is a good sweetener is you are not trying to get pregnant.... Stevia is a old herb used to prevent pregnancy. My midwife told me about this and she is also a naturapath expert so make sure you speak to your dr before trying any herbs in your diet
@ghdances Agave is high in fructose... in fact it has more than high fructose corn syrup which can be hard for the body to process so you might want to try a few other sugars as well. XO.
@MamaNaturalBlog Wow, I looked into it and it's total crud...how depressing. Well, thank you for posting this video and bringing to my attention why agave nectar is so bad. Otherwise I would still be blindly going about thinking I was making a good choice with this "alternative". Thanks again! :)
My favorite is honey. I am not really a fan of agave. And, I guess I haven't cared to learn too much about Stevia. But, even though you still have calories and a relatively high glycemic index with honey...it is as natural as it comes, for sweeteners. I used brown, less refined sugar for cooking, baking and teas...and when making stuff for a crowd (or not for us), I use white sugar (because no one else I know cares). I haven't been able to give sugar up, yet...one day.
Hey :) I love your videos even though I'm not a Mama just yet! You've got some great tips on healthier eating and easy meals. You definately are well informed on how foods affect our bodies!
I mean this in the most constructive/nicest way possible. Could you please refer to 'diabetes' as type 2 diabetes? I have type 1 (juvenile). People often comment and say "but youre too young!" or "you eat well?!". I'd love to not be judged for something I didn't cause.
I just bought some agave nectar and truvia yesterday. Haven't used either yet but am glad I am making the switch. Thanks for the video! It might take some time but I will find an option that is right for me.
Honey, stevia and maple syrup are favorites here, but even those don't get used that often... Although we do use organic white sugar to make our water kefir.
mmmmm, maple syrup all the way!!! I love it on greek yogurt with fresh peaches and walnuts!! I also use stevia in my coffee. How do you handle baking without sugar? do you use honey?
great video! I recently gave white sugar up, well i was just in corsica on holiday so I had an ice cream....or two.. but i dont allow it at home ;) my fave is honey as well!! we bough some amazing raw honey while in corsica its the best ever!!! Iv tried coconut sugar its really good has a caramel flavor. used to use agave but found out about the fructose recently. and stevia I like also!! I love ur vids u always cheer me up. :) Im actually eating the yogurt with honey right now. YUM
I would be interested in trying the brown rice syrup and stevia.I already use honey in a few things.I have a huge sweet tooth but have really been cutting back.
Stevia can cause an allergic reaction to people with ragweed allergies.

I use Agave Nectar in almost everything that I and my family eats. I like to think that it is a good substitute since it regulates your blood sugar.
